    Hi Andrew (and Dougal). It was lovely to chat to you at the show on Wednesday (hope your wrist is feeling better now). It was our first time to the show and had an interesting day. We agree with you - Swift need to make a base camp 3 so couples can have a bit more space and get rid of a bunk bed that’s never going to be used! Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to chat to us we really appreciated it 👍🏻😃 Kaz & Pete

    Actually, having watched your video, the Basecamp4 seems better than I expected. I’m with you on the 3 berth idea and having some storage boxes or similar to go under the beds/seating. But I’m afraid Mrs Dormo would veto the idea of not having a separate shower cubicle.
    However, that was an informative video review.

    The broken table is pretty poor, I know tables are not meant to be swung on but if you are selling this as a family van it needs to be a little more child proof! Its an awful lot of money for a very small van. Can get much more for that money. I guess this is more of a lifestyle purchase rather than a sensible choice.

    Nice presentation Andrew! I an seasoned outdoors sports salesman I see this product as an excellent alternative for the trekkers, hikers, and climbers that wanted a big step up from the tent life at basecamp. I do look for important tweaks for those: 1) shoe dryer 2) clothing strap/line for drying 3) as a fisherman/hunter you need a freezer, and maybe somewhere to keep their rods and rifle locked up 4) Even if 2/3s of the people trekking are women, 1/3 are men some well above 100 kg, what's the kg rating for the chairs and bed(s)? 5) you mentioned bicycle users, Knaus sport and fun where made for those, but as you said this could be even better for them with some tweaks 6) Here is Scandinavia Polar and Kabe are popular, one of the features is Alde systems and ski box slideout. It does not have to be that good but somewhere to put your skiis, if this is insulated well. About what kind of insulation, what material, how thick, and what kind of heater? 7) if this were meant as a basecamp in its sub meaning, and then you can tap into the Australian market, you need tough offroad tyres, suspension and maybe frame, maybe that an easy upgrade. 8) what chassis and do they have any sway control?

    We love our 2019 Basecamp but the one issue we do have is that putting the double bed up in the evening (when you're tired, 2 gins and bottle of wine down) and then down again in the morning is a real pain. Consequently, when we have the awning up and the weather is good, we tend to leave the bed made up, but that's not really what we like. Although it does mean a slightly longer van, this Basecamp 4 would appear to address the problem with a reasonable compromise, so I would recommend this as the better choice if a permanent bed appeals.

    Good news on the payload, I couldn’t find any info on this when I checked the sales leaflet and the webpage so that’s a decent payload - hooray. Definitely a solo/couples van though really or for really tiny little ones as those bunks are mega thin (54cms) and with the awning on its over 9.5m front to back according to the stats so you’d most probably have trouble fitting particularly on CCC club pitches (their pitch info webpage states 8*5m or 9*5m on their jumbo pitches. Ok on unmarked sites of course. Crossover users may well be using sleeping bags so at least they’d store away underneath the seats pretty easily. Hope to see you testing one out soon :)

    I love the opening! And your „helloooo!“ at the mirror is something I am looking forward to. As much as to your „what do you reckon Dougal?“ and your „He never smiles!“ at the end. Your videos without Dougal are missing something. Thanks to your videos I am now thinking of renting a motorhome in Scotland and drive to the Outer Hebrides - although I have. Ever driven left hand nor have I camped in a caravan or motorhome before. But in a large tent for 3 persons when I was a child. We camped at St. Tropez in the 70s when there was no jetset there like today. And that caravan is my favorite. But I have the same thinking about improvements that you have. Although tables are not designed as a playground for children. I would think that people would look after their children when visiting such an exhibition...

    I still have my 2000 ABI Adventura which was converted at factory to a 4 berth by adding a Manhattan fold away bunk above the rear side dinette. The ABI also has a BBQ point as standard which in its day was quite a point of interest. The ABI has factory hot and cold water, we also added heating. The best option was fitting a extractor fan in the bathroom wall.
    I have looked at the Basecamp but in my opinion it comes in second place to my 20year old ABI
    The in my opinion list putting it second place as follows
    1. To heavy - hence poor mpg
    2. To long
    3. Storage not as good
    4. Only one rear door, ABI has 2 doors - ideal with sandy footed children.
    Now the children have flown we also leave the front bed down all the time.
    So I will be sticking with my old friend as long as possible. Come the day we part then if there is nothing that meets the ABI size layout etc then it’s the end of my caravan days.

    • @andrewjditton
      @andrewjditton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, at 20 years old I'm guessing your Adventurer was far better built than mine! The Adventurer is also might lighter ;) I had a Propex heater in mine which sounded like a 747 taking off... oh to have had the tech of the Whale HeatAir back then!

    • @JohnSmith-bx8zb
      @JohnSmith-bx8zb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sad thing is that the concept of the ABI is even a better justification today as weight equals fuel burn and should ever there be an electric tow car it is true lightweights that will keep trailer caravans alive. I have noted the ‘pod’ style vans but they do not offer the complete everything inside the van option. Especially when on considers the wet cold U.K. climate.

    After years of searching for a small, modern looking caravan but never quite finding one with the full package this looks like it could finally be it! The cushions in the dinette/bunk area do look like they might be a bit loose and subject to slipping around (judging from other videos) but nothing that some Velcro can’t solve. Would love to see an offroad pack that included the chassis upgrade and maybe suspension with all terrain tyres but this is pretty close to perfect for us as first time caravaners. Would be interested to see the difference between the RVA1 and 2 awnings. Great review as ever and completely agree about doing away with the upper bunk. Subscribed :-)

      Glad you enjoyed it - and welcome aboard! An off-road version would be the business, indeed!

    The current "free" awning make the rig too long for standard pitches, there is a smaller vango awning on it's way but not due till Autumn, the Thetford oven is not the greatest as it's very slow compared to the manufacturers timings/temp, the main fusebox is fine until you need to change a fuse/ figure out whats going on, needs to be moved to the back wall of the cupboard, with the plus pacj you get an external socket on the side of the van could do with being at the rear. having said that I love my BC2....

      User experience is the best, thanks for that David. I agree when I saw the mains socket, I did wonder why it wasn't at the back...

    £20,000 + is a lot of money for not a lot of caravan. A LOT of choice available at that price range.

      No. I think all the manufacturers are focussing on fulfilling their full-to-bursting order books at the mo.

    I like the look of this, but I guess the door is too narrow to fit a motorbike through?

    • @andrewjditton
      @andrewjditton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might fit it through the door, but I don't think you'd secure it very well. That's a 'Dealer Visit' query to see in the flesh. Obvs depends on the bike - a moto or a Goldwing! ;@)

    Interesting exterior - good to see innovation. The interior not to my taste - brought to mind an old ambulance, to be honest. Not cheap neither!

    We need other manufacturers to copy this layout. A bit of competition is needed to drag the price down to something more sensible for such a minimalist caravan.

    I like the basecamp design, brings a younger market into caravanning and getting away.
    Top marks to Swift for bringing this concept to market , but as you say some additional storage under the front beds would be good.... mind you duvaley do a nice soft bag for all your bedding.
    Totally agree with your comments basecamp 3, yes loose the silly extra bed and make the dinette better.
    I bet this tows so well, probably won't even know it's behind, certainly wouldn't behind my Shogun.
