  • This pilot training film for the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter focuses on George Air Force Base, part of Tactical Air Command and home to the 4443 School Squadron, where initial training in the F-104G is conducted. Pilots trained at this school train allied nations in the operation of the F-104G. This includes pilots from Norway, Taiwan Republic of China, West Germany, Belgium, Italy, and others. At 1:38 an inspection of the aircraft is undertaken. At 2:14, pre-flight inspection is discussed -- a nine item check that is spelled out at 2:40. The rest of the film is used to show all the various details of this list.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a single-engine, supersonic interceptor aircraft which later became widely used as an attack aircraft. It was originally developed by Lockheed for the United States Air Force (USAF), but was later produced by several other nations, seeing widespread service outside the United States. One of the Century Series of fighter aircraft, it was operated by the air forces of more than a dozen nations from 1958 to 2004. Its design team was led by Kelly Johnson, who contributed to the development of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, Lockheed U-2, Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird and other Lockheed aircraft.
The F-104 set numerous world records, including both airspeed and altitude records. Its success was marred by the Lockheed bribery scandals, in which Lockheed had given bribes to a considerable number of political and military figures in various nations to influence their judgment and secure several purchase contracts; this caused considerable political controversy in Europe and Japan.
The poor safety record of the Starfighter also brought the aircraft into the public eye, especially in German Air Force service. Fighter ace Erich Hartmann was forced to retire from the Luftwaffe due to his outspoken opposition to selection of the F-104.
The final production version of the fighter model was the F-104S, an all-weather interceptor designed by Aeritalia for the Italian Air Force, and equipped with radar-guided AIM-7 Sparrow missiles. An advanced F-104 with a high-mounted wing, known as the CL-1200 Lancer, was considered, but did not proceed past the mock-up stage.

I inspected F-15s in the United States Air Force four years when I was young. This was pretty much what we did all day. This video really brings me back.

"Check the wing" checklist item. I can't see the wing. Where is the wing? All I see are two stubby strakes where wings ought to be. Where are the wings? Is this a plane or missile/rocket with man cockpit or an aeroplane? What is wrong? What am I seeing? Where are the wings? Left at factory? Not installed? Fell off? help!!!

Best looking "fighter" interceptor of the age. Plenty quick but handled like crap at low speeds and had no range.

4:33 “check for no cuts on tire” 4:50 what are these on the tire? Hope they replace these before the next 180 mph landing...

    • @risingmoon893
      @risingmoon893 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They are for friction like the tires of a car and the lines on the tire are straight unlike the ones on cars at times cause planes only have to move like mainly forwards and upwards at high speeds so they have lines on them so that they don't like just slide off the runway in snowy or rainy conditions.

No it doesn't. This ridiculously small wings was designed to achieve high altitude supersonic speed. This whole plane was designed for this purpose. To be very high and very fast.

    The Widowmaker
Long and lean - a silver queen
Have you ever seen - such a flying machine
hits the ground as fast as sound
seven hundred thousand pounds of little pieces lying around
The Widowmaker- is a real brain-shaker
the Widowmaker - is a silver queen
the Widowmaker - is a real heartbreaker
the Widowmaker is long and lean.
Easy to fly - a pie in the sky
do you wanna try - a good way to die.
Dive through the clouds with a scream really loud
hold your head proud and wind up in a shroud.
    The Widomaker - is a real brain-shaker
the Widowmaker - is easy to fly
the Widowmaker - is a young life taker
the Widowmaker - is a pie in the sky.
The Widowmaker is a good way to die.

Its bad reputation pretty much came from the Germans flying it. There were a combination of circumstances that led to it that weren’t an issue anywhere else.
