    Why the fuck every foreign traveler (vlogger) go in the muslim part of Skopje ? Is only a small portion of the town and don't represent the real story of the city.

    you ever seen a rainy day and what it could do to the inside of the gym if everyone went in with their outdoors shoes ?
    buying another pair of shoes isn't costly in europe .. you don't need to buy new Jordans you can buy any cheap pair of shoes to train with in the gym ...

    Well the central square is amazing, very beautiful. Looks a bit run down near the bridge, but very impressive overall. The market street seemed too narrow and run down at first but then it got better. As far as gym requiring members to bring separate shoes - it's probably an overall culture thing in Slavic countries (at least in Russia for sure) and maybe some others. I personally grew up in it but it also seems kinda obvious to me from the hygiene point of view - why would you walk inside the apartment in the same shoes you just walked outside, stepping in whatever? Gyms are public spaces but they usually have rugs, and so overall they would have this same level of hygiene as individual homes and apartments. In fact I was pretty surprised when I learned that in US (and in Western Europe I guess) its customary to walk inside your place in the same sneakers that you walk outside. Maybe it has to do with your outside being more clean, less open dirt etc, but there's still gonna be some dirt especially in the winter or after rain. In your place you may put your feet on sofa or a puff. So from both hygiene and comfort standpoint I personally walk in home slippers or barefoot in my place, I even have separate slippers for my back yard )

    • @Alexus095
      @Alexus095 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @user-se6qk6fi7n but they can't be driving all the time, they still have to walk. Even if they're not stepping into mud and the weather is nice - pavement can't be entirely clean, its outside after all. So to constantly walk wearing these same shoes into your living room, bathroom, stepping on your rugs etc - that's something else to me ) Not trying to judge though, to each his own )

    Been there, Sly! The taxi drivers (at least all the ones I dealt with) were very honest. One even told me I was paying him too much, but I told him it was okay and to keep the extra.
    Where might you need a cab ride to? Hunter's Lodge Kamnik. Their food is superb! And the prices are at a discount versus what you would pay in the West. If you're still in Skopje, try to get over there for a dinner. They'll call you a cab once you've finished dining. Aim for an early dinner as the place won't be as busy and you'll be able to take more video/photos of the interior.
    Glad you made the main drag of the Bazaar at the 13:30 mark (the arch you walked under was the marker). Disappointed you missed out on all of the jewelry stores. As you walked the main drag, the jewelry stores are one street over to the right, parallel to the main drag. There are dozens upon dozens of jewelry shops. At the close of business each day they pull back all of their window displays leaving it empty and destitute looking. But if you visit while they're open you'll have gobs of eye candy for your viewer.
    There's a Mother Theresa Museum on the south side of the river. Probably worth your time to check it out.
    If you're willing to do a pay excursion to the south, they'll take you to the top of the mountain which overlooks Skopje and some other points of interest on that path. Then there's another excursion to Matka Canyon (Russian name) which offers a scenic area to take a boat ride through to the Vrelo Cave hike. Matka Canyon also has an array of coffee houses at the edges where you can enjoy a beverage and the scenery at the same time = a bunch more eye candy footage to be had.

    I was very surprised when you told this "shoes for gym" thing for the first time. Second shoes for the gym is absolutely ordinary thing, it's just normal. In Russia, in Balkans, and I am pretty sure that's like that for many countries. I cannot imagine to go to the gym without separate shoes (And flipflops for shower, of course).
    Yes, it costs money, but you buy it once for many-many gym days. And you don't have to purchase famous shoes, usual sneakers from usual shop or bazaar works too. I got my gym shoes from market place for $20 (Wildberries, Russia). In many of your videos you eating lunch that costs like this or more. And shoes you can use more than once) So I don't get your point at all.
    Maybe you don't have space in your luggage for second pair and need to buy new pair in every country? Is that the issue? Then it's makes sense, but again, it's the problem for your circumstances and not for everyone.
    Videos are interesting, thank you!

    Great video! I recently spent 10 days in Greece and I regret not having the time to visit Macedonia while I was there.
    The reason why Greeks in particular were triggered when you referred to the country by its correct name, Macedonia, is because they vehemently deny the identity and existence of Macedonians within Greece itself. If I remember right, there was a period (likely more) of ethnic cleansing within Greece of any trace of Macedonian culture and identity (for example, Macedonian children were placed in camps eerily similar to residential schools for Indigenous Americans and forced to learn Greek while simultaneously forbidden to speak Macedonian).
    What is considered "northern Greece" today (Thessaloniki and the surrounding area) has historically always been Macedonia, but it was forcibly assimilated into the Greek state and Greek culture, language and identity was subsequently forced onto ethnic Macedonians living in the area. This is an extremely dangerous topic to speak about in public (ESPECIALLY in "northern Greece"), so you were smart to keep your voice down. My partner is Aegean Macedonian, and he told me what he says about Macedonia would make people want to physically hurt him in public, and I constantly worry about his safety whenever he attends Macedonian-related events in his area.
    I'm not an expert by any means, but this is my understanding of things to my best knowledge. Much of the animosity boils down to nationalism on the Greek side. It can be extremely complicated to someone who isn't Macedonian, but I highly recommend the channel Mario Talks History if you want to learn more!

      You really sound like a totally brainwashed child of the General Tito regime that first invented the whole fake “macedonian” identity of the Slavic Bulgarian population of this country.
      Not that it makes any difference, but if you honestly cared about the truth perhaps you should ask yourself 1) why the original name of that region was Vardarska Banovina before Tito decided to reinvent it as “macedonia” with a whole new made up history.
      2) Why Russia and Stalin at the time reinforced the new made up history as a way for the eastern block to gain access to the Mediterranean seaports by claiming that the real Macedonia which was in Greece was stolen so as to have a claim for it.
      And 3) why the language they speak in this country is the same as the Bulgarian language.

    As far as the issue with the name goes - the region was conquered by Philip II of Macedon and Alexander the Great, incorporated into the Empire and thus it became Macedonia. Then the region and the area changed hands many times, during the ages the ethnic component changed but the people of the land always considered themselves macedonians. So now that you know it, Sly, please tell every single Greek you meet that Macedonians from North Macedonia are proud people, that they are gonna call themselves whatever they want to call themselves, and that any Greek that has even a slightest issue with it can bring it directly to your face and you'll explain to them what's what. Let the force be with you, brother )

    • @missmonkeymind708
      @missmonkeymind708 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Greek people don't have an issue only because of the name, even though yes, that's an issue. What is appalling is the bombardment of propaganda that comes out of North Macedonia claiming most of Northern Greece as their land and calling for its 'liberation' .
      Also, the persistent racial slurs calling Greeks derogatory dark skin related insults that I won't repeat to keep this civil. Claiming modern Greeks aren't even Greeks isn't going to keep any Greeks calm 😂

      @@missmonkeymind708 well there can be all sorts of propaganda and slurs flying around but it is Greeks who are known to take an issue with the naming, as Sly says too, not the other way around. And you confirm it by saying how yes it's an issue. Why it's an issue though? Philip conquered the land, included it in the empire, extended the name to the region and in 2-3rd century BC when Romans conquered it, they already recognized 2 Macedonias. 2300 years from now. Its not like Slavs invented it, they just inherited the name with the territory.

    • @mn7486
      @mn7486 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The Slavic population of Northern Macedonia today migrated to this area in the 6th century AD, which is 1,000 years after Alexander the Great’s time.
      Until the beginning of the 20th century they were called Bulgarian and today they decided they want a new identity, hmm let’s borrow the Macedonian identity from Greece, like classic chicken thieves!

    • @Alexus095
      @Alexus095 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mn7486 yes they were Bulgarian but they were also Macedonians, cause they lived in Macedonia and naturally assumed the identity. In fact it was them who were championing Macedonian independence cause in Thessaloniki starting from late 19th century. They bravely stood up to Ottomans with one message 'Free Macedonia!'. And today when you look at Skopje's magnificent central square, at all the statues, you just see that it was these people who truly carried on the banner of Macedonia. Alexander would be proud!

    Macedonia is actually area. North Macedonia republic is located on the north part of it, that is why The Greeks wanted to be renamed from republic of Macedonia to North Macedonia. I do not want to go any debated about history but as Bulgaria and Greece claims ( you can research on the map in past centuries) Macedonia is less the 80 years history. Jugoslavia took over the territory after ww2 and made a genocide over the mainly Bulgarian population there. Macedonia was ruled by Bulgaria before ww2. History was overwritten, but the language remain kind of Bulgarian with small difference. 1991 was the first year of existence of republic of Macedonia. Some people there and politicians do not like Bulgaria and Bulgarian for no reason.( they only like Bulgarian passport) I wish Macedonian great future and good wishes from Bulgaria.
