This reminds me of the comics when spider-man hears sandman is in critical condition in the hospital so goes in civilian clothes and his mask and visits him to find out he’s dying and can’t keep himself together anymore. So spidy takes sandman to his fave spot in new York a beach he went to as a child. Spidery never fought him here just talked and listened and even tried to offer help for his condition but sandman told him he appreciates the gesture and even thanks spider-man for treating him like a real human in his final moments. That’s what sets Peter apart from others. His compassion not just to the civilians to help them but his attempt to save and help his enemies even at his own risk. It’s why I hold Spider-Man dear to my heart he’s my childhood hero and a hero to me to this very day into adult hood.

So I didn’t know this was a whole mission so when I sat with Howard I just stared at the bay with him for minutes and minutes, taking in the view, the music, and the quiet. No swinging, no fighting, no combo meters. Just staring at some birds across the water. And it was one of my favorite moments in the entire series.

same here lol it took me a few minutes to realize I had to look around. When the quest ended, I stayed on the same spot just looking at the sea, processing everything that just happened probably one of the best experiences I ever had with a game

Yeah this hit way too hard after the first game. I remember struggling to catch those pigeons, but it was always fun, and I enjoyed it. Howard is the GOAT.
After playing this and getting my soul absolutely crushed, I came to realization: Howard has been holding Pigeons as fragments of his memories about his wife. Birds symbolize his own soul split into different memories and emotions. But the longer Howard held on to his flying family, the more burden he held on by himself. In certain points, Howard knew he could no longer hold his pigeons hostages. His time was near and he had to let go. So, he divided his soul into pigeons and had Spidey deliver the pigeons to a peaceful place, that way he can also rest in peace. The mission not only shows pigeons moving on, it also shows Howard himself spiritually moving forward. He has transitioned from memories of pain and grief to happiness and inner peace.
I just did this Howard mission. I thought that it was going to be the typical funny/wacky adventure with Howard’s pigeons. Wow. Didn’t expect it to be this emotional. I knew something was up by the way he was talking. RIP Howard 😢

I always loved Howard's missions for one reason. It shows that Spider-Man isn't some big superhero like an Avenger, he is the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, helping an old person cross the street or talking to a homless in need is the kind of things he does because he is here and will be there for as long as he can. It's a side of the character that many forget about and prefer to just see him in big epic action moments when he's just a friendly guy in a red suit doing the right thing anytime he can
Agreed. That's what makes him so damn likeable. Just a nerdy kid from Queens who happened to accidentally gain superpowers and wants to do the right thing. Same with Miles

This and the Grandpa Earl missions got me, man. Those two were easily the best side missions in the game for me. They really hammered home why he’s the FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD Spider-Man. Insomniac just *gets* it!
This was the very last thing I needed to do for 100% all districts and I’m glad it was the thing I chose to do last. A solemn yet great way to end the game

I’m in literal tears after playing this mission. Especially if you played the other 2 games & helped Howard with his pigeons, this one really hits the feels. And when Howard said “Not many folks have been kind to me in life…” that line really got me. He felt like he was another one of Pete’s/Spider-Man’s friend… R.I.P. The fact that I saw Howard dying the moment he was reminiscing his life at the bay and his voice trembling, it still hit me hard. This whole game had me in a roller coaster of emotions.
I think what hit me even harder during this was the song choice and the fact that it was daytime in the game. So when I hit the triangle button and was soaring alongside the birds, it made me really emotional and happy for a moment. 😢 RIP.

Dave fennoy is perfect for howard ,like He did for Lee in telltale the Walking Dead ,Fox in Batman Arkham Knight. Glad He made his mark in Spiderman ps series too. Plus this mission is very emotional and good for players to encourage them to just stop and enjoy this beautiful virtual world Insomniac created. That's one of few things I love in open world games : We get to be in many worlds with lot of beautiful sceneries. I always take my time to stop at a high /low point just to kick in the views ,whether it's superhero game or not ,as long as I get to be in many worlds while staying at home.❤

I was tearing up by the end and then when Spiderman brings up him finally being on an adventure with his wife I totally broke down. Absolutely beautiful mission.
Everything about this side quest is perfect. The voice acting, the music, the swinging with Pidgy’s flock, allusion to the 1st game, the ending. I coincidentally wore the Noir Spiderman suit so it somehow matched the scene. And now…. I’m in shambles.
Peter may blame himself for not taking Howard not getting medical attention, but we all know he saved Howard's life. He took his time to help him with no reward, always willing to chat, and even so helped him at his end. Something anyone can do but took the plunge and be there to living up his days.
You collect them In the first game....you set em free while they follow you in the 2nd...❤ amazing side mission which I'm glad I did before anything. Soon as I seen the ambulance....I cried.
What made this so dramatic was the song in the background and it also captured the very essence of Spider-Man’s endearing character .. the way he spoke to Howard as well as how he spoke to the pigeons
You really hit this at the right time of the day. The sun going down just makes this mission better. Insomniac does a great job at tuggin at out emotions. Just a Beautiful moment.
I cried when I played this. When he said he was going on an adventure. I knew that meant 2 things he was actually leaving or he was gonna pass on. This mission is very sad and it shows you nothing lasts forever. Typing this now I'm tearing up. Howard wasn't a huge part of spiderman but he'll always be in our hearts
I wasn't expecting Howard to pass on so quickly, You could tell he's been taking it easy for a while. But dang, I saw the ambulance and had a sad quiet "oh no" Sucks a lot when you weren't able to say good bye to them one last time. I know what that is like all too well. I always enjoy how alive and humane these stories tend to be, giving us breathers from all the super hero work. Seeing the walks of life that show it isn't just about beating bad guys. Sometimes spiderman can be a long time friend to talk to when you really need it. Dang I just teared up saying that.
Very deep mission! From the way he talked about his wife and old job to the fact that he had his cart with him, but Miles/Peter are still very compassionate.. I did the mission with Miles right after I visited his dads grave. 😢 well done

Please read!! In August 2022 my Grandfather Howard passed away in his apartment in Battery Park City. He lived in the apartment building just south of the boat parking lot and Brookfield Place (Glass Shopping Mall). I started this mission and realized I’m meeting “Howard the pigeon guy” on some steps in Battery Park City right next to where my grandfather lived. I couldn’t believe it. I started the mission and realized this is in-game Howard’s final mission because something is off with him and there’s a calming song playing while traveling with the birds. I wrap up the mission and go back to see he passed away, with an ambulance there to pick him up. My eyes started welling up without control. I put my controller down and cried into my hands. After the mission Spider-Man is perched, looking out onto the water right next to the apartment building on the left where my Grandad died. I LOVE AND MISS YOU GRANDPA ❤️🕊️ REST EASY
This is the mission that embodies Spider-Man as the greatest superhero. He doesn't just fight bad guys, he helps people however he can, and I guarantee he got more satisfaction out of helping Howard and his pigeons than he ever did putting people like Scorpion or Electro in prison.
This mission made me cry like a little girl. The only game that's ever done the same is the ending of what remains of Edith Finch. One of my new favorite missions in a game ever

Bro straight up what did I just experience. I went to do this mission as nothing more to rack up some exp before jumping back into the main story and I ended up crying to the song while I was flying with birds. this game continues to blow me away with each hour I put in I love you all
When howard was talking the way he as with Peter going "uhm howard, howard?" And the pigeons were free i knew some sad shit was gonna happen but i didnt expect THAT! RIP Mr H we will all miss you and chasing the pigeons for ya😭😭😭😭
This is why I personally can't get the criticism that the game is boring when you're not punching people as Spider-Man. Spider-Man has to do dumb stuff here and there but it's always in service to the people. That's what I find truly fulfilling in the game.
This and the find grandpa mission are my favourite moments in the game. It showed how much empathy Miles and Peter have for others. You can be someone's hero by just sitting down and listen to them.
That moment when you get a call from someone you love and they tell you that the person who you spoke to the other day is gone. That’s when you realize that you can’t tell them how much you miss them or how much you love them. Because they finally found a new adventure. A new home away from you.
As soon as he started talking considering we helped that old man with dementia at the beginning of the game reminisce about his wife I had a bad feeling the instant Howard starting talking the way he was. I knew. I knew what was about to happen.

He took his time to help him with no reward, always willing to chat, and even so helped him at his end. Something anyone can do but took the plunge and be there to living up his days.

You collect them In the first game....you set em free while they follow you in the 2nd...❤ amazing side mission which I'm glad I did before anything. Soon as I seen the ambulance....I cried.
What made this so dramatic was the song in the background and it also captured the very essence of Spider-Man’s endearing character .. the way he spoke to Howard as well as how he spoke to the pigeons

Man I felt so free flying with the birds and so emotional with Howard’s ending. Spider man series truly shows the right sign of humanity.
You really hit this at the right time of the day. The sun going down just makes this mission better. Insomniac does a great job at tuggin at out emotions. Just a Beautiful moment.
I cried when I played this. When he said he was going on an adventure. I knew that meant 2 things he was actually leaving or he was gonna pass on. This mission is very sad and it shows you nothing lasts forever. Typing this now I'm tearing up. Howard wasn't a huge part of spiderman but he'll always be in our hearts

I wasn't expecting Howard to pass on so quickly, You could tell he's been taking it easy for a while. But dang, I saw the ambulance and had a sad quiet "oh no" Sucks a lot when you weren't able to say good bye to them one last time. I know what that is like all too well.
I always enjoy how alive and humane these stories tend to be, giving us breathers from all the super hero work. Seeing the walks of life that show it isn't just about beating bad guys. Sometimes spiderman can be a long time friend to talk to when you really need it. Dang I just teared up saying that.
I had such a big smile when I saw Howard pop up, then I caught on quick when he was talking. I'm gonna stop playing for the night now...

Very deep mission! From the way he talked about his wife and old job to the fact that he had his cart with him, but Miles/Peter are still very compassionate.. I did the mission with Miles right after I visited his dads grave. 😢 well done

strange how the mission mark appears on that boat and immedieatly turns off when howard says no... does the same for the other boats mentioned. i like to think peter just immedieatly considers to take him on it before he rejects

In August 2022 my Grandfather Howard passed away in his apartment in Battery Park City. He lived in the apartment building just south of the boat parking lot and Brookfield Place (Glass Shopping Mall). I started this mission and realized I’m meeting “Howard the pigeon guy” on some steps in Battery Park City right next to where my grandfather lived. I couldn’t believe it. I started the mission and realized this is in-game Howard’s final mission because something is off with him and there’s a calming song playing while traveling with the birds. I wrap up the mission and go back to see he passed away, with an ambulance there to pick him up. My eyes started welling up without control. I put my controller down and cried into my hands. After the mission Spider-Man is perched, looking out onto the water right next to the apartment building on the left where my Grandad died. I LOVE AND MISS YOU GRANDPA ❤️🕊️ REST EASY
I seen it coming even before the flying with the pigeons but it still got me
The end of this mission devastated me and all but brought me to tears and very few games have made me cry
This is the mission that embodies Spider-Man as the greatest superhero. He doesn't just fight bad guys, he helps people however he can, and I guarantee he got more satisfaction out of helping Howard and his pigeons than he ever did putting people like Scorpion or Electro in prison.

Oh man, I don’t cry much but wow this got me. Howard is a really cool character. May God rest your soul Howard, enjoy your adventure. Man only two video game scenes ever made me cry like this is: 1. Anderson’s death from Mass Effect 3 & 2. This side quest for Howard. Well done insomniac, well done.

Bro straight up what did I just experience. I went to do this mission as nothing more to rack up some exp before jumping back into the main story and I ended up crying to the song while I was flying with birds. this game continues to blow me away with each hour I put in I love you all
When howard was talking the way he as with Peter going "uhm howard, howard?" And the pigeons were free i knew some sad shit was gonna happen but i didnt expect THAT! RIP Mr H we will all miss you and chasing the pigeons for ya😭😭😭😭
Dave Fennoy, a voice that even when it’s fading, never fails to put you at ease.
This is why I personally can't get the criticism that the game is boring when you're not punching people as Spider-Man.
Spider-Man has to do dumb stuff here and there but it's always in service to the people. That's what I find truly fulfilling in the game.
This and the find grandpa mission are my favourite moments in the game. It showed how much empathy Miles and Peter have for others. You can be someone's hero by just sitting down and listen to them.

That moment when you get a call from someone you love and they tell you that the person who you spoke to the other day is gone. That’s when you realize that you can’t tell them how much you miss them or how much you love them. Because they finally found a new adventure. A new home away from you.
As soon as he started talking considering we helped that old man with dementia at the beginning of the game reminisce about his wife I had a bad feeling the instant Howard starting talking the way he was. I knew. I knew what was about to happen.
I think this is my favorite side mission so far. It was really nice to see Howard and Pidgey again. Even if it was only for a little while.
