I may have sunk entirely too much time into this game o.o I even unlocked the green goblin story thing. The game isn't perfect by any means, but it kept 12 year old me busy ^.^
Ps2 Gamer That's the version I get up with! Unfortunately, I dont have that copy anynore and I could only find a copy of the Gamecube version for the review
It's so weird, this game is super nostalgic, but pretty much all of the story stuff is news to me because my brother and I would spend so much time goofing off in the overworld as kids. 😂 Regardless, excellent review!
I’m 19 years old now and I had this game on GameCube and when I say it’s nothing but nostalgia. I love it so much and I’m glad I beat it as a kid I remember actually going outside to play when Peter said “go outside and play” at the game lol I’ve went and completed the game again a couple years ago maybe I’ll do it again soon :)
I have a copy of the xbox version of Spider-Man 1 and basically what happens is Kraven is hired by Mr. Osborn to try and kill Peter, A.K.A Spider-Man. Kraven attracts Spider-Man by lighting a spider statue on fire and J. Jonah Jameson orders Peter to check it out. The classic web head zips into a room that looks like an empty animal infirmary and meets kraven on another side of glass. Being the classic spidey, he mentions his outfit, kraven laughs and talks about killing him and then some statue faces on the walls activate and release a poisonous gas that slowly kills you over time. Spidey then has to go through a few african looking indoor Amazon rooms, avoiding a few traps while the poisonous gas slowly catches up to you. There are 2 parts where Kraven will try to snipe you as you hide behind pillars to avoid his shots all the while in Kraven's perspective. After you beat that mission you fight Kraven. You will be in a room that slowly fills with fire on the walls with also an electric ceiling which is basically a boss battle against kraven. Only thing is, there is a snake pit in the middle, and Kraven in general is kinda quick at times. During the boss battle he thows shurikens, breaks some of the throwable items in the roon and can knock you down. What makes it challenging is that at certain parts of the battle he drinks a potion that regenerates his some of his health and makes him faster. The most difficult part of the fight is that he's sometimes quick to counter you and you also have to finish him before the gas leaks into the room through the vents and poisons you. After your fight with Kraven, he gives the antidote for the poison gas, and spidey asks Kraven why he wanted him and Kraven tells him he did it just for the challenge. Spidey tells him how the cops will come after tieing him up and that's the end of the mission. The game then proceeds with your second encounter with the green goblin.
Never played Spiderman 1, so it's interesting to see how it was (That swing leg poses though). People might be waiting be Spiderman 2, I am waiting for... the 3rd one. *shiver*
When I was like 9 all I had was a Wii U and a ps2. I was bored with the Wii U and I got this game for $4. No joke I replayed it over and over every day for like 2 weeks. This game was like the best thing ever for me back then and I still like it.
This was my *very first* PlayStation 2 game back in 2002 and my goodness, this gives me such a nostalgia that no other game will ever give me. Thank you for doing this review! I liked and subscribed. God bless!
Had this game for PS2 (still have it) and there was also an option to play as Mary Jane. Which meant the ending bridge scene was Mary Jane kissing Mary Jane. I never thought much about it, but when I was older I found out there was uproar about adding same-sex kissing in a kids game so the developers recalled the copies & took out the MJ mode before re-releasing it.
I loved this game but I always felt the soundtrack was too depressing, like that theme that plays when you die lol Also the colour palette was pretty dismal in feel
nice review, a cool unlockable in my opinion would be the skins for spidey and Gobby based on the movies concept art by famous comic illustrator Alex Ross, might actually be my favorite looks for the characters
Wayne, I have a theory that Scorpion may be a runaway test subject from Quest Labs, Oscorp's rival. After all, why would Oscorp create Scorpion and yet have no idea about his existence when Dr. Strumm says that the Hunter-Killers detected both Scorpion and Spider-Man?
I always thought that the cutscene when he lets Uncle Ben’s killer escape and he makes those angry eyes, we’re taking out of the child’s play movies. 😂 I mean seriously, doesn’t he have the Chucky eyes? Loll.
I got the Ps2 version of this game a good couple months ago, and I can say that I like it, haven't played the Ps1 Spider-Man games yet but I would like to check them out at some point. Spider-Man felt a bit awkward to control at first from my experience, but after playing for a couple minutes I quickly acclimated to it. Might double-dip and pick up the XBox version of this game at some point just to experience that Kraven the Hunter level.
Oh wow. That swinging animation. Yikes. It's like it was animated by someone who has zero knowledge of how real people swing from things and all they knew about Spider-Man was that he's depicted with his knees at the same level as his shoulders, but never actually saw any of those depictions, just descriptions.

So if you're wondering why I didn't cover the Jakks Pacific Plug n Play games in the marathon it's because I was just focusing on the 3D Spider-Man games at the time. Otherwise I'd probably still be working on the reviews to this day just because of how many games there are. That being said, I'm planning on going back to review the 2D Spider-Man games later on which would include stuff like the Jakks Pacific games or the handheld titles. But I'll probably have to save all that for a marathon of its own
It was largely developed by the same crew that made Spider-Man 2000, so there's a lot of similarities between the too, most notably with the special moves Spider-Man has during combat but the level structure is also very much like that of the PS1 game
