With that being said its not that hard to find out the benefactor(s) of such a sweet heart deal P.I. Maverick. All you need is a little bit of patience, time and a few "ice trays" filled with the right amount of syrup and you'll be in the know. PS: I entered the address shown on the bag into Google Maps and from the looks of the pixs which surfaced it would appear that its quite a large scale operation being run out of that plant. There came the closing down of the ice factories, I remembered the ice factory 🏭 in Rae Town usetò sold party ice in the 198s and 90s, into some plastic bags and. I didn't have any idea where they were coming from at all, I will just read the comment them but. I know that when the electric fridges started to imported into Jamaica, the ice factories them closed down..I back in the days of the 60s and 70s, when they are going to have school sports, the ice trucks useto come to school to sold ice for the event. Then they would dug a pit put saw dust in the bottom or sand to keep the ice from melting too fast and, you would cover up the ice.In Florida people still buy ice into plastic bags 🛍, although they have fridges. Maverick, the waiver would be on the import duty. A retail 10lb back of ice in Florida can be up to US$5. That's J$785, but then there's the shipping costs that adds to that, plus the GCT and profit margin. Therefore, the waiver wouldn't necessarily take it down to the price of locally produced ice. One other point though, we would be buying at a wholesale price, which I wouldn't speculate on. Bottom line, scarcity causes price increase in a free market, and, not just because we have water in abundance means ice will always be in abundance. You hit the nail on the head when you spoke of the capacity. Remember, the build up of capacity is a slow moving thing, especially when there's a "shock" event that causes the reduction of capacity.

The importation is due to a major fire at the largest ice producer on the island, which is why it's only temporary. The other producers could not fulfill the holiday demand, and the factory will not be back to full operation for 6 months. Hence, a temporary importation was granted.
The Ministry of Health and Bureau of Standards will check the quality of the ice before it is cleared at customs to ensure it is consumable. The cost is high, the Consumer Affairs Commission needs to step in and examine the cost.
The factory was burned down! It's not just a matter of new machinery. Also, they have already reported they'd be back to full capacity in 6 months. Until then, the holiday and early year demand has to be met, so a temporary solution was allowed. The place burned down in November, how long do you think it would take to procure a new industrial sized machine, ship that machine to the island, set up that machine, test the machine, and start production? Hence why temporary importation was made possible.

Hence why temporary importation was made possible.
