    Maverick, you never need to clear up anything. Jamaica is importing ice, and it's a dam shame. Ice is the simplest thing to make; if we cannot, something is wrong with this country. My late grandmother used to say, "If you have to explain your action after the fact, something is already wrong."

    Well Maverick...good day!
    Let me be the first to thank you for directly or indirectly doing some further research by peeping over that 6 feet invisible fence of yours (lol) and securing some further intel about this ice importation debacle.
    You've also stated in this clip that info pertaining to the name(s) of the persons involved in getting a waiver to import this precious commodity was very elusive and personally I'm not in the least surprised. This revelation is all over social media and i've even seen several other youtubers posting your initial video on their channel so of course the importer(s) surely wouldn't want to be thrust in any type of spot light on such a sensitive topic especially looking at the type of mark up in profits they'd be making which in turn may have a direct impact on how much duty the gov't would be forfeiting...NOW....would they?
    With that being said its not that hard to find out the benefactor(s) of such a sweet heart deal P.I. Maverick. All you need is a little bit of patience, time and a few "ice trays" filled with the right amount of syrup and you'll be in the know.
    PS: I entered the address shown on the bag into Google Maps and from the looks of the pixs which surfaced it would appear that its quite a large scale operation being run out of that plant. Kudos to the smart business person who was able to secure such a sweet heart deal....NOT

    Why the secrecy about the shortage of the product. Had the public been informed about it people would've been able to organize around it eliminating the need to make this purchase at the last minute at these criminal prices. There must be a politician benefiting from it somewhere along the way

    • @beljonn
      @beljonn 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Where was the secrecy? There was a fire to the major producer, who said they should have operations back to full capacity in 6 months. There are a lot of events and incoming travelers during what would be the winter months for many overseas, and for that reason there was allowance for temporary importation to fulfill the demand. Maverick ran the story as if it were some scandal, without caring to confirm anything, then moved the goalposts on the issue.

    Maverick I born come see several ice factories in Jamaica 🇯🇲, when there was not many fridges was in Jamaica 🇯🇲. Most of the fridges I born come see in the 1950s, 60s also 70s was cursene oil 🛢 fridge. Then the ice trucks useto drove around and sold the ice into blocks, 100,50 and 25 lbs and. I know one ice factory 🏭 in Falmouth Trelawny, St,Mary, Prospect, Linstead St,Catherine, and Kingston Rae Town then.When the electricity started to spread all over Jamaica in the 1970s, more electric fridges started to import into the country. There came the closing down of the ice factories, I remembered the ice factory 🏭 in Rae Town usetò sold party ice in the 198s and 90s, into some plastic bags and. I didn't have any idea where they were coming from at all, I will just read the comment them but. I know that when the electric fridges started to imported into Jamaica, the ice factories them closed down..I back in the days of the 60s and 70s, when they are going to have school sports, the ice trucks useto come to school to sold ice for the event. Then they would dug a pit put saw dust in the bottom or sand to keep the ice from melting too fast and, you would cover up the ice.In Florida people still buy ice into plastic bags 🛍, although they have fridges. Mostly for parties or outside works ok.

    Maverick, the waiver would be on the import duty. A retail 10lb back of ice in Florida can be up to US$5. That's J$785, but then there's the shipping costs that adds to that, plus the GCT and profit margin. Therefore, the waiver wouldn't necessarily take it down to the price of locally produced ice.
    One other point though, we would be buying at a wholesale price, which I wouldn't speculate on. Bottom line, scarcity causes price increase in a free market, and, not just because we have water in abundance means ice will always be in abundance. You hit the nail on the head when you spoke of the capacity. Remember, the build up of capacity is a slow moving thing, especially when there's a "shock" event that causes the reduction of capacity.

      The factory was burned down! It's not just a matter of new machinery. Also, they have already reported they'd be back to full capacity in 6 months. Until then, the holiday and early year demand has to be met, so a temporary solution was allowed. The place burned down in November, how long do you think it would take to procure a new industrial sized machine, ship that machine to the island, set up that machine, test the machine, and start production? Hence why temporary importation was made possible.

    Ice factory burnt down; ice was / is needed in the festive season right across the island; for those who disagree with the temporary measure of importing ice; tell us what would you do differently???

    There is a ice factory in May Pen, what has become of it, we use to have one on Harbour St this one has close down years ago, so overall it is cheaper buying foreign ice than having locally produced ice, some politician a benefit from this venture.

    In 2023, Jamaica exported approximately exported U$968,000 of ICE and imported U$ 1,300, 000. This amount is approximately .07 and .09 of the total ICE exported and imported in the world. The USA imported approximately U$320,000,000 which is 22% of the world imports while exported approximately 8%. China is the largest exporter of ice and Hong Kong is largest importer.

    @OralTraceyMaverick: The person who imported the ice and the Minister who granted the license for such an import should be placed in handcuffs and given no less than 15 years. The mere fact that they are unwilling to give up the importers, and if I were a betting man I would say with 99.9 percent prediction that there is a scandal under it.
