Fair play to Zoe and her record company, as they knew "Sunshine On A Rainy Day" was a banger. All it needed was a spit-and-polish here and there and a zazzier video to promote it. Still love that song, nearly 35 years on.
Number 4 (thought it got a place higher than that) at the tail end of the summer that year. Was on a run of 50 consecutive nights without staying in at home once,and having a blast at the time.
There seems to be a bit of a mix-up with the #1s. "Unchained Melody" should be #1 for the whole of November (unless I missed it), then Vanilla Ice, Cliff Richard & Iron Maiden. Enigma don't appear until January, after Iron Maiden: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UK_singles_chart_number_ones_of_the_1990s The Iron Maiden song replaced Cliff Richard in time for my 8th birthday on the 31st, something I'm quite glad about 😄 I don't remember much of this from the time (mainly the Turtles song that was #1 in the summer) but watching the Top of the Pops episodes from it recently, it was a very weird period with a lot of old songs reappearing through re-releases and megamixes. Here we have the Bobby Vinton & Patsy Cline re-entries along with the Grease megamix and Dirty Dancing soundtrack, and seems Jive Bunny is trying to repeat their success from the year before. Thanks for an interesting compilation, but not many I'd want to dig out to listen to in full! 😂
We were nearly shot of Jive Bunny by then. Aside from some of the bigger hits,tracks I have willingly pulled out to listen to in full again from this bunch include the ones from 808 State,INXS,the Inspiral Carpets,World of Twist and the Pet Shop Boys.
Few stand out songs in this video. I'd have loved Iron Maiden Christmas #1, even Madonna's raunchy song. The best songs are "Bring Your Daughter, To The Slaughter", "Justify My Love" and "Sadeness".
I remembered the day when Iron Maiden went to number 1. It shocked mainstream radio stations throughout the country 😅
And that was a good thing.

The Zoe song later became a big hit a year later in 1991
and a few covers including from Baby Spice

I was 6 years old when these songs were in the charts.
I was only 1, so I wouldn't even have remembered hearing them the first time around.

There are a lot of tracks here that are the foundation of modern pop music !!
Really? There seems to be a lot of 50s-80s tracks trying to have a second wind.
@gnu_andrew indeed
