This video is a perfect example of teachers having to fake it until you make it! Our students deserve our best everyday despite how we are feeling. You are such a fantastic teacher! Here is hoping you don´t have too many days like that this year!
When I was sick in the hospital on medical leave, I would watch your videos as a way to stay "connected" to teaching. They gave me some brightness in a difficult time. Thanks for sharing! Now I'm back in the classroom!
This past week was the LONGEST so far this year and I was BEYOND grouchy. I have also had bronchitis and pneumonia and worked every. single. day! I hope and pray this coming week is SO MUCH BETTER!!! It’s definitely that time of year!!!
The consonant+le syllable keeps the other consonant and makes a blend sound. Pebble- peb/ble for bl sound. You would split between the double consonant.
Great post! I feel the same way! It takes me about 3 weeks to work on our classroom schedule and fix the bumps, too! The chants you do with the kids r super!
Oh, yes!!!!! This year, our special classes are earlier right after lunch, so our math block is split and mostly in the afternoon. It's so hard for them to focus late afternoon!
@Mrs. Call's Campers Mayleen, Take it from me a former autistic sped school student, absolutely it gets hard to pay attention really anytime that there are other things going on in a student's head or if the student has run out of space for anything else from the teacher for the day in particularly when the teacher is not done teaching all of their content for the day. At least you are open to working with your students and putting in place extra strategies to motivate your students to make more space for you by giving them something extra to work for and look forward to. Keep on doing it and it will all work in the end. By the way, You are such a beautiful teacher. - Dwight
I teach 1st. The struggle for attention in the afternoon is real! We have specials in the morning and math in the afternoon and it is SOOO hard to keep them focused!! Also, I’m curious about school day times…our students enter at 7:00 am and we dismiss at 2:30. I am super jealous of your later start times!
Thank you for being TRANSPARENT in this video. Sometimes we don't feel our best as teachers AND that's ok. As you stated the next day you were better. 😊 My school does Number Talks too. When I started I felt like I wasn't doing well. I watched videos and observed my colleagues. We also discussed it in our TBT. Now, it goes smoothly. I use a timer ⏲️ now as well. 10 minutes is all I do. I begin the timer after the students give me the answer from the problem. Number Talks has truly helped my students with addition and subtraction. I have liked your long videos keep them coming if you can.
❤❤ would love to see a video on how you organise all your supplies. I have gotten into a bad habit at times of getting some wonderful resources and then not having a proper home for them and then forgetting I have them because they are not in front of me (mum brain!) Do you prefer digital or hard copy resources? I prep and laminate games etc and have digital copies for worksheets etc. but I’m realising that although i love tech, I love having my resources in a folder that I can instantly flip through and see…
👑 I was so excited when I saw you were going to a school who uses Envision. Our school has been using it for 4 years and I am not a fan. I was hoping to see how you used it.
Thank you for sharing! I can only imagine the work it takes to vlog & edit. I was curious to know if you still print your anchor charts or is it all drawing and your handwriting? I’m working on mine this week (NYC).
Can you show us a peak into your small group binder? I know you keep the small group notes template, but do you have anything else? I know you've mentioned that and the Jen Jones curriculum items before
My school has Rocket Math. I like the repetition and students coaching each other. However, grading takes some time. Also, this is the first year my team has started first graders at Mastering Numerals, instead of addition, because so many students came in very slow at writing their numbers (correctly)
I always learn something watching your videos! Question, where the students write sentences with the lines you draw, what is on the title page? I'm going to make some for my kiddos.
Hi Marlene, love this vlog and how days just don't go as we plan and it's ok. I was wondering what the song is you were doing when you were hugging the kids at the end of the day.
Do you differentiate whole-group Spelling and Writing for the kids that cannot read yet? Or you have them join the whole-group lesson and support them in small groups later?
Hi:) Where can I find the syllable/break down of the compound words you were reviewing in the beginning of the video? Were these Google slides or is there a program you use? Thanks!:)
Thank you for always inspiring us teachers! I always look forward to watching your videos and learning so many new ideas. Also, could you provide a link for the sound boxes used in the video? Along with the letter sounds sheets used during small group? Please and thank you so much in advance. 💕💕💕
Is it only me who sometimes needs to slow down the speed of your videos because I feel like if I dont I get lost... Lol... Greetings and Blessings Mrs... Have a Great day
I also hate math talks. It's so hard. And I know it takes a long time to get to a routine where the kids know what's going on. But I've found that I feel uncomfortable doing it lmao
Where can I find the stamp with the letter lines? I also wondered if you had the lyrics to your closing song? The one that says I had the best day with you today.
👑 Hey Mayleen!! How did you know you wanted to teach younger grades? I’m going to be starting my student teaching next semester and I am so torn about what grade level I want to teach!! I’m so scared of throw up and it worries me that littles won’t know what to do if they feel sick, but at the same time I love working with younger kids. Any advice? Love your videos 🤍
Hiii future teacher! Not the awesome Mayleen but I have some experience with your question. Soo I always thought I wouldn't go lower than 6th grade. Then the pandemic happen, I was replaced at my permanent sub job as 8th grade science teacher and found myself looking for a job. I found myself as a para in elementary. I loved it especially 4th. So my principal took a chance on me and put me in fourth grade science and social studies. Now I'm still in fourth teaching math and science. Sometimes you just gotta try. Oh and throw up, I literally had an 8th grade walk right up to my trashcan and vomit. You just have to have empathy at any grade level and show them you care and understand. I hope this helps. ❤️
Has that ever happened before that kids refused to look at you? Did you get a sense of why they were doing that? Sheer defiance or something else? I felt sad when you had that bad day, you're such a rockstar!

As someone who has been teaching for many years, you are doing a fantastic job. You are teaching all of the basic skills they will need.
Thank you for keeping this raw and real! Sometimes it feels like I’m the only one!!! ✨

Yes! I feel that even for second graders it is hard for them to stay focused at the end of the day, too.

Love watching your videos even though I have left teaching. Thank you for being such an inspiration to the teaching world 👑
👑 So grateful for your videos, Mayleen, always! You inspire me to be the best teacher I can be!
Thank you for always being real. I’m still loving those butterfly clips. 🦋
Fantastic video. Thank you for being so generous with your time and ideas, and honest about the realities of teaching. Amazing!

I love your vlogs. You inspire me to be a better teacher. Quick question: How do you make your vocabulary cards for the read-aloud?

Love your organization!!
What Breville do you have?? Do you love it? I keep looking at their espresso machines but can’t convince myself to pull the trigger! Lol

Do you have a playlist for the classroom?

How do I make or find or purchase your amazing power up slide? I definitely NEED it. 😮

Hi Marlene, love this vlog and how days just don't go as we plan and it's ok. I was wondering what the song is you were doing when you were hugging the kids at the end of the day.
The Best Day (Taylor’s version) - Taylor Swift
👑 I recommend the Number Talks book by Sherry Parrish.
Do you differentiate whole-group Spelling and Writing for the kids that cannot read yet? Or you have them join the whole-group lesson and support them in small groups later?
Where do I find the reading challenge? I teach first grade and I feel your pain and happiness!! I get ya! ❤️
Where did you get the stamp that makes lines for your kiddos to write on?
Hi:) Where can I find the syllable/break down of the compound words you were reviewing in the beginning of the video? Were these Google slides or is there a program you use? Thanks!:)
Where can I find those readers you used in small groups?
Forgot to link my favorite coffee!!!! bit.ly/MCCbbcoffee code is MAYLC10
Thank you for always inspiring us teachers! I always look forward to watching your videos and learning so many new ideas.
Also, could you provide a link for the sound boxes used in the video? Along with the letter sounds sheets used during small group?
Please and thank you so much in advance.

What song are you singing to close your day with the kiddos?

Amazon~ Miseyo Dashed Handwriting Lines Practice Roller Stamp. Hopefully, this is what you are needing. 💕
I’m dealing with the same thing in my small groups but I have third graders.
They won’t look at me and participate.

I love your videos! What website did you use for the math activity you did? The clip where you were able to tell the class accuracy. 1:02:59
I think it’s 99math
