  • In this demo I will show how to create custom profiles for use with the Inventor frame generator.
    I will cover sketching, part modeling, iPart creation, custom content library creation, authoring/publishing the profile, and creating a basic frame.

    Found solution. No need for excel I simply did not use the tables and the part published correctly.
    Great video Thanks for going into detail.

    Thanks John, I have been able to create a whole library of standard framing and finish lumber. Works great in Inventor 2016 also!

      I have an issue with the creation of the part. One of the dimensions of my new profile changes when I create the frame.

    Thanks! This saved me a lot of messing around. I notice on another video that selecting shell option when extruding allows you to see the frame box as a surface without covering up your frame.

    Great video. Thanks so much. Was looking for a way to add some aluminum extrusion we use into the frame gen. rather then making sticks and constraining them. Big help.

    Thanks for the video went more in depth than the other ones I have seen. How ever I do have a question. So for a frame I am using a length of c-channel that has pre-drilled holes in it. How do you have it so the holes come across in the profile?

    Hi, Great Video. Thanks for the upload. I got stuck at the part stage though. I imported a .dwg file with a Bosch aluminum extrusion profile and Inventor wouldn't extrude this shape, seemed to not recognise a profile.

    Again, thanks for the upload.Very easy to follow. I have a couple of questions.
    1- How would you go about adding new profile sizes to a family that has already been created?
    2-I made a circular profile which worked fine in frame simulator but I also made square profiles which didn't work ok. In the simulation environment, "Beam properties" shows Wz value (in mm3) is missing. I don't even know what this W values are. Moment of inertia and polar moment of inertia values do show up. Any ideas?

    @pigzepenguin I haven't done it, but I would see if you can create an iLogic rule in the custom frame component. iLogic is a rules based design system in inventor that allows you to change design settings and parameters based on certain criteria.You could write a rule that changes the number of holes in an array based on the overall length of the part. If the part is 1 inch long the array is set to 1, if the part is 2 inches long then set the array to 2 and so on. Hope this helps.

    Hi John, Just wondering how to get the size description in the display name of a member newly created. In your example you can see that it only shows as "ANSI 0000001" as a display name/File name in the family tree whereas with a normal standard frame it also displays the size like "AS C350L0 65X35X2.0 RHS 00000002".

  • @JohnHelfen
    @JohnHelfen  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @coquicr When creating the profile there are a lot of things that need to be filled in if you want full functionality for beam element analysis. You must not have filled in all the values when you authored the profile. The video only shows the most basic info needed to create the frame member.

  • @JohnHelfen
    @JohnHelfen  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @coquicr You wouldn't ad new profiles to a custom family, the profile is kind of what makes it a family. You need to add a new family for each custom profile shape. What you can change is the size of members of the family. So if you create a profile like the one I made in the video, you could have different widths, heights, even notch sizes, but you can't add a new profile shape. Does that make sense?

    Hi John,
    Thanks for this video. very well explained.
    Just one thing - What if i want to use the authored parts just by placing from content center instead of using frame generator.
    I tried it, with frame generator it goes to custom length as per the line we select but when i place it by place from content center it doesn't prompt to take the custom length?
    Can you please elaborate this bit a little more??

  • @JohnHelfen
    @JohnHelfen  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @coquicr To add new sizes you need to go to the manage tab, to the content center section and select editor. In the editor select your shape, then select the family table button in the toolbar. This will bring up the table of sizes you can add rows using right click "add row" and ad as many different sizes as you need. Remember you need to make sure the library is enabled for the project to see your custom shapes.

    @johnhelfen How do we change the design of a part once it has been published? In this instance, I made a mistake in mapping one of the parameters to a dimension, and I need to change it! I don't see a way to edit the driving design through Content Center 'Editor'.

  • @skyeg3

    I need to add some sizes but can't seem to locate the profile in the content center editor. The library I used is set to read/write. The project is the default project. I learned a bit thanks for the video.

    I see each component have name ANSI 000000000:1, ANSI 000000000:2.... It's so hard to realize. Could you show parameters (size of each component) in frame? exemple: name ANSI 3x1.41x length

    • @nguyenthanhtuan2085

      The first, you need to creat your library, It can read/write, and you can publish your profile to library
