Reminds me of my old days on the G.E , when i used catch the 04:20 staff train from Stratford to the Liverpool Street during the week, then dash across to platform 4 to ride with the driver of the empty car set to Enfield town , where would get dropped off by the lincoln road crossing to sign on for duty.
1:45 look to you Right you will see a section of the bridge goes over nothing. This was the former East london line terminus at shoreditch which used to run Railway trains to Liverpool street until the underground took over. The station closed in june 2006 and the whole line closed in december 2007 and was reopened as part of the overground in 2010.
Wow!! Thank you for providing this video - this is one segment of LTS that I never got to view during my time in London in the mid-late 90s. Terrific "this is how it is" didn't require any narrative whatsoever - the alarms speak to themselves. Well done.
When I was a lad Ilford was just 11 minutes from Liverpool St. That was on the hourly Colchester train which ran non-stop to Ilford (even avoided Stratford). Travelling on a 312 meant that we could see a driver's eye view (unless the driver lowered the blinds). Sometimes the journey was on a 309 - very nice indeed! I always aimed my travel to travel on these trains; nowadays we only have slow "all stations" which take 50% longer.
Excellent video of my old stomping grounds, Used to live in Mile End in Lichfield Rd, Grove Road bridge is at 4.30 which is at the start of Lichfield Road and where Mile End Park is now was orignally John Wright & Sons (Veneers) Ltd. Lived there from 1947 - 1970.
Interesting to note that at the back of Ilford car sheds there was going to be a connection with the Central Line at Newbury park, which began outside the car sheds and joined the former Great Eastern line at Newbury park.
There was once said link that went both W+E from NP on to the GE that was lost when the CL was opened-ish. Plessy use the link for building and car park till current houses were built.
This is a really very good video showing a train "riding the lights" from clear, advance warning, warning and danger. For those who don"t know this shows exactly how it is. Just one silly question from an Australian unfamiliar with your terminology. TMD, is that Train Maintenance Depot?
Superb video! Funny to think that all the sub terrain stuff up to about 1:09 was one all open air. I notice that a lot of the overhead wiring structures have changed too. Is there a mass replacement programme in progress or something? The old 1949 original DC equipment must be getting a little creaky by now I would have thought!?
Oh yeah.... I thought it was a 379... forgot they had a corridor connection. Thanks for the correction! :^) LTS Rail run 4 services into Liverpool St per day (as used to happen in BR days) I thought they'd stopped doing this under privatisation... I had to check the timetable to be sure!
todd hunter it means there’s a possible single yellow ahead. A flashing double means you’ll expect a flashing single wish then means the next signal is a diverging single yellow. That then means you need to assume the road is at danger. Hope that helps :)
Every TOC, when they run a recruitment programme for train drivers, they either look for "Experienced or Qualified Drivers" or they run a run a programme called "Trainee Train Drivers", in which, the latter is what you need to apply for. C2C were recruiting part-time Trainee Drivers for last summer (2021), its best to always check each TOC's careers website to see what they have. The other way you can become one is, if you get a job such as a platform assistant job with GA, then, when an internal opportunity for a trainee train role appears, you can apply within.
This service was by Abellio Greater Anglia as Tfl didnt take over the line until the 31st of May 2015 and this video was made in 2012, Tfl rail will change to the Elisabeth Line (Crossrail) in December 2018 when the rail opens according to schedule :)
+Oliver Roy it's the Advance Warning System, the klaxon is to tell the driver the signal ahead is at single/double amber or at danger (red) depending normally on the position of your last aspect. The bell indicates the signal is off (green) .
What is the name of the old disused platform(s) just outside Liverpool Street, is it the old Globe Street Station or is something else, could someone please help me identify them
Most train operators pay great salaries but say goodbye to your own life, money isn't everything, that's why the last 20 years have seen more drivers leave the job early, something that was unheard of before privatisation
Too many short blocks in that stretch. I don't know why the signals are so close together as far out as that: it isn't the same on other routes, including out of central London, once one clears the complexities of close-together junctions and multiple roads/routes. It doesn't seem to be necessary, at least to this (admittedly inexpert) eye…
He's using the down suburban lines, used by the high-frequency Shenfield "Metro" services. The short signalling blocks are short to allow this high-capacity service that runs every six-minutes in the peak.
So much has changed since this video was shot. New skyscapers, new trains, the new DLR Pudding Mill Station, Crossrail Portal...
...and now, the 317s themselves are gone, for over a month now(!) (On that note, as are many of the classes spotted!)
@@fetchstixRHD I actually was on a 317 last night, strangely
@@ashtray314: Damn, did they end up bringing them back?
@@fetchstixRHD I’m not sure, they make a very rare appearance

Nice video. I was lucky enough to get a cab ride once out of Liverpool Street on a class 90 to Norwich. it was awesome.

I wish there was more high quality videos of this line. :(
Very nice and gentle trip.
great video -thanks for posting

TRIPLEVALVE62 THE DEPOT so the depot replaced the Newbury park line
I went train spotting once in 1974at Bethnal green when different classes of loco were many.....not any more
fantastic, i look forward to any more uploads :)
I'd expected to see the gantries and much of the 1949-era O.H.L.E. (modified for A.C.) but a lot of it looks to have been replaced.
It wasn't a 357, it was a 379's, used on Liverpool St to Stanstead and Ely workings :^)

Most enjoyable watch. Thanx.
That's either a warning noise that repeats in the cab , or the driver is occasionally letting go a small , sad sounding fart.
Ha ha ha😀😀😀😀 you nailed it
Never understand why some drivers chase reds, hang back for greens
Great video - thanks

What happened to all your other driver eye videos? Good thing I downloaded them all when I had a chance.
Would love some links to them!
They probably were not allowed to publish them so were asked to take them off, filming in train cabs is a grey area
Are u able to send me those videos if you still have them
That AWS alarm sounds horrible.
18:29 This mate is really trusts you.
Love watching this!.. What does the double Amber light mean?
todd hunter it means there’s a possible single yellow ahead. A flashing double means you’ll expect a flashing single wish then means the next signal is a diverging single yellow. That then means you need to assume the road is at danger. Hope that helps :)
Looks like the train was on a collision course at .50 secs.
Like I see, 2 yellow lights are same like in Cz, 40 and warning? Is'nt that true?
very good post
Hello,
May I ask, how did you become a train driver with GA? Is there an apprentership you took or some form of course? How did you apply? Thank you.

What is done with that poor cat?
What cat?
This must be "the slow train".
wow they are short sections just after Stratford. Why is that?
GA-D, have you deleted some of your other videos? (assuming I've got the right person. lol)
(Or, more formally, Traction Maintenance Depot. Pick one.)
I'll pick Traction Maintenance Depot. Thanks Lewis.
Is this greater anglia or crossrail/Tfl rail (may be stupid question, don't live in London)
Or any other train service going that way

Any chance i can see your other drivers eye videos mate
What's this train?
Nice

If you are signaling this, my hat is off to you! What a rat’s nest!
nice video
is that a 317/5 or a 317/6
17:16 red signal and still moving ahead ?
Permissive working, see the two white lights come on under the main signal?
+David Bowery yes indeed
When your chasing reds or yellows, it is called chasing aspects.
@@SamuelIles2015 What?
What's with the constant squeaking and bells? that would drive me mad.

if you like
"if you like" to be correct.
@@Faulty720 It's yellow, there is no such thing as amber on a signal and you never say double yellow - it is ONE yellow or TWO yellows

Bonfire in someone's garden
Thanks my friend
No problem :-)
RenegadeChauffeur no someone is doing bonfire or a barbecue. And it's summer 2012
Yes.
nice
this is not drivers eye view but nvm
this line does not use 317's they are 315's......
Kaci Lynn 317's are maintained at Ilford!
GA, have been using 317s for quite a while, usually leased or used from their limited stock.
You forgot pudding mill lane DLR in the description 😏😉😂.
During
what do these drivers get paid? Is it a good living...minimum wage..what?
TFL rail will be starting wage 26k then upto 40k something
TFL Rail is now £59261
gfusion insane wages :(
