Great video, thanks for posting! I just finished this tonight on my 2009 Ranger. In my case, I think it was actually the O ring for the temp sensor that was leaking like a sieve - when I removed it, it crumbled; but for the most part the rest of the housing looked fine. I used the O ring from the new part, one of the plugs, with some RTV, to replace it. I'll post back with results once I've refilled it. Two tips for everybody in case you have to get back in there: 1. Replace spring clamps with worm gear style 2. Use a generous amount of anti seize on the lower housing bolts.
I have the identical truck I will be replacing mine with a metal one that I bought online it’s great to see the breakdown of how to get in there for it though thank you!
i replaced mine with a plastic one after two or three years it started to leak again so i put a aluminum one in no leak . cost is close to the same as plastic one but will out last plastic.
This will be the third time I'm replacing mine and nutz to Motorcraft. I'm putting in a metal aftermarket so this problem goes away and I never have to do this job again. It's hard to badmouth Chinese aftermarket parts when OEM is this crappy. Oh yeah, my tip: tie a thread around those sensor clips when you pull them out because they will go flying and you won't find them. The guy at the autoparts store will look at you like you lost your mind when you try to find replacements. Also all three of the long bolts broke off in the block the first time I did it so use antiseize for the next guy. Ford charged me $45 bucks for just those three bolts.
Every video is for the 4.0 engine. I have a 2001 Ford Ranger with a 2.3 engine. But I can't find any videos that show how to replace the coolant sensor sending unit.

The metal replacement Ford Explorer thermostat housings are the way to go. The plastic ones are crap.

I will keep this in mind in the event that we need to replace the thermostat on a Ford Ranger with a 2.3 engine in it.
