You guys are awesome!
I'd love to hear your thoughts and deeper dive into Pete Cowen's spinning the trail arm down. Do the best players really do this and what is it?
I found AMG a few years ago and thought these guys were for young pros only… that led me down a path other YT “instructors” and constant back pain. I’m finally back to AMG and seeing the light again. This new drill looks like a real eye opener for me. Thanks fellas!
Welcome back 👊😊
The AMG myth busting team are at it again. Love your work!

Who you gonna call? AMG Mythbusters!
It may be the best video these guys have ever produced. Excellent and so enlightening.
@@johnwebb2466 thanks for watching 👊😊
Love this. Keep em coming, can we get a short or a video talking about post impact? I see a lot of pros not rolling but almost like their knuckles are pointing up or back at them if that makes any sense. Always wondered what they are actually doing there! Thanks AMG family!
This is genius ! Compliments to you Mike & Shaun & your elite member David Mcmerrian (Atlanta) of your teaching program. This is a really great way to start to understand your concept of playing off the right side of your body. We had heard for years from the elite players they feel like they play off their trail side / trail pocket as their hips rotate rapidly open towards the target coming into impact. This drill now helps you feel the hip and upper body rotation from club last parallel which enables this to happen in the correct correct sequence and correct constituent parts. Namely to avoid dragging your arms across your body as opposed to pivoting down into impact from last parallel.
Please could you say whether the sister drill to this one is more helpful in the downswing move. This is where you also place an alignment stick across your shoulders and try to get in the downswing to where your hips lead and your shoulder pivot clips the hip leading the downswing leading STIX on your rotating hips.
Myles
I play off 0.8 so it isn't just mid high handicapers that watch you guy's and learn things. Was using this stick drill today to hit ptch shots and its great to keep the body turning👍🍻
You said it! It's a great one for getting and keeping the body doing it's thing 👊
Great video boys. It will help a lot of people. I used it this morning in a short pitch and it really helped me get more of a body driven pitch shot which is exactly what I needed because I don’t have a strong enough pivot in short pitch shots

Liberating feeling to know that the drill I’ve been failing to master no matter how hard I try (elbow in front of stick) is actually not necessary. Appreciate you guys clearing this up. Wouldv been a bad and never ending rabbit hole
Yep, you can kick that silly drill curb and be thankful you never got good at it 😅
Great explanation guys. I was always concerned about an alignment stick breaking and causing an injury when trying to hit balls with it through the belt loops. They were not designed for that use.
My problem for years. “Skipping a stone” was hurting my rotator cuff and I was at best hitting a massive block. AMG led me to Harvey Penick who led me to this Magic Move.
I cannot thank you guys enough.
You will always be with me on my golf journey.

@@tysondeskinsgolf thanks brother 👊
Great video, guys. Can you do one video on head positillon during the swing? There is so much chat about your head behind the ball behind at impact (with irons) . Should it be behind the ball and how to stop your head from lunging forward. Thanks
Sure can 👊🤓
Good one. I was lucky enough to figure out myself that hands actually stay on the trail side at impact. So my golf was split into two eras. Before and after. That’s extremely important!
@@andreysto1202 you were way ahead of the curve 🙌
I had that trail end of the stick only 20 cm past my trail hip and hit full swings - without proper finish ofcourse. It is really a good manner for impact position excercise, but may result becoming stuck and introduce some unnecessary flipping action, when taken the stick off. Hence produce proper turn thru the impact area.
Great drill fellas. I'm going to get the whole tribe working on this one
Can you do a video on keeping the trail arm bent at impact, and why it might straighten too soon?
the drill in this video is great for making sure there is bend still in the arm by impact. Don't try to keep bend or keep it from straightening. That's fools gold. The arm bends in the backswing and straightens in the downswing, when impact occurs on that scale is where the focus should be. Not lowering the arm soon early enough is probably the #1 cause of it straightening too soon.
@@AthleticMotionGolf Thanks for all the value you guys put out!
@ 🙏🏻👊🙂
💰💰💰 good stuff guys

A few feels I’ve always used to accomplish somthing similar is to either
1. never let your hands pass your belt buckle until after impact.
2 is a more exaggerate feel where you feel like the club is essentially where it would be around P2(shaft parellel, 90° from address) relative to your body but at impact so you have to rotate into impact rather than throwing the club early.
3 is very similar to 2 but practicing that without a club holding your trail arm with the palm open facing the target line about 1 ft out from your body on the trail sid, parallel to you & the target line. feeling like you turn to impact mainting that position, hitting the imaginary ball with your hand. Basically what’s he’s doing at 4:12
6:14 is part of all these feels too. Hitting it with the trail side or with the club still on the trail side.
4. Having Impact feel like your chest & belt buckle are facing the target. That goes for all these feels as well. Of course that’s a bit exaggerated from where you want to be but often an exaggerated feel is nessesary. They’re also a heck of a lot easy to explain with a club in hand/ in person. 🍻
Some solid drills there 💪😍
I had a coach have me put an alignment stick in my trail armpit. He told me to stop my lead arm once it “connected” to the stick in the back wing. Then, on the downswing, keep it connected to the stick until impact. Helped hugely with my lack of sidebend and early extension. Also kept my arms more out front since I’d been dumping them behind. This looks similar, but mostly for a few inches before and after impact.
Sounds like you’re hitting it better now 💪
It is amazing what can be taught in under 7 min.
@@Oahugolfguy The hank you for watching them 👊🤓

@@tomnelson8515 thank you!

When you say “right side of your body” in your videos do you mean right of your sternum or right of your body (ie side of right leg)?
Boys, this is the one 🤝 feels so connected at impact I've definitely been letting the hands go too far which will be where my blocks come from 😂😂🙈
Let’s go!
Hi. Thanks for the video. Can you please do a video on ensuring the club stays above plane in the takeaway?
For the life of me I cannot get this right.

@@juanbotha6634 we sure can 👊🙂
Would this be a good drill for pitching/chipping
i mean yours stick between arms
@@grahamjones7371 don’t see why not 🙂
Hi, what do you think of the chopsticks drill, another stick across the shoulders and keeping it behind the belt loop stick?
Does it produce this movement?
@@AthleticMotionGolf Yes
Do you guys have any videos or drills on how to match shoulder turn with hip turn in the backswing? I got a problem where my hips reach 45 degrees too early in the backswing and then my shoulders reach 90. I believe that the shoulder turn and hips both max out around the same time at the top of the backswing, or is that concept wrong?
Hips max out before top of backswing
I like this concept, however I have a question. I have tried the "Wrong" version before because it makes me feel like the hands are lowering in front of the stick to get to P6 (versus dragging across) because I tend to spin out like at 1:16. I like the new version you show, but what would your suggestion be for someone that hypothetically has mastered that half-swing drill, but tends to get wayward with full backswing? Does that make sense?
Spend time ironing out what’s happening between lead-arm parallel going back and coming down.
@@AthleticMotionGolf I'm guessing it's lifting the arms, probably due to too late/too little wrist hinge
Going to try this with my only pupil, my keen new golfer GF, been doing right arm only swings with a short light junior club and a yard of thick rope, would you recommend these drills, rope has really worked, (apart from first time when it slapped her face) but hey no pain no gain
👊😅
I’m an ex baseball player and I had a couple surgeries on my trail elbow. Tommy John’s and Cubital Tunnel were the bulk of it. To summarize I don’t have great stability in that elbow. Do you have any suggestions for a brace that won’t hinder my swing?
Check with your PT for a brace recommendation 👍
Can you help me with shot shaping fade and draw? My path is around +2 to the right in my stock but how to hit a fade shot while I lowering my arm but still have the path the left. I don’t want to feel like keeping my arm up to get the plane more over the top bc I watch your videos and I know it is not the right way to swing.
@@Raret000 Do not try to change your path to hit a fade. Every shot can be played with an in-to-out path.
@ so should I open the face at the set a little bit at the setup and aim a little left?
@ yep
I like the theory behind the drill. However, two things, 1, like. Shaun mentioned it is really awkward 2. I am getting extreme pain from my right arm brushing against the stick which I am guessing is because I am doing it wrong..?
@@cubfan69kmz85 #1 is because of #2 😉
This is freaking brilliant! I'm off to the range RIGHT NOW to get started. Thanks for what you bring to us!
@@hamishlaing1542 love it!! Have fun!
This is easier to do if you use a short bungy cord to attach the rod just below the bottom of the sternum. the rod is then higher and more comfortable
But sternum isn’t same as pelvis which is the relationship we’re training with this drill 😉
@@AthleticMotionGolf I was thinking more regarding the "club on the right side" feeling than the pelvis

Doing the Lord’s work busting myths
🫣👊😅
my 13-year-old boy that plays very good elite tournament junior golf was given this drill, his arms are always trailing his pivot, his lower body fires really fast, bad idea ?
We don’t believe in slowing down what moves really fast for players. For that reason, I wouldn’t recommend it. Learning to get his arms on the same level as his pelvis would be time well spent 😉
@@AthleticMotionGolf thanks for the reply love your videos
This is interesting. Because I see a video recently where Bryson dechambeau was giving Hogan Molthan a "lessson" and he done this exact drill, his opinion wasnt to get the trail arm/elbow infront of the body more but said sequencing was off Because hogan didn't turn his hips back far enough and fired them to early which was why he was hitting the stick. His advice was to delay the hip turn and the whole body turns through more together...
Now I'm aware bryson has a "different" swing so could this be because of the swing mechanics he uses vs the masses as to why he would recommend it.
Probably more because he doesn’t teach for a living. Why would he lol. If he keeps helping players he’ll probably develop more ways of making changes. Just like he has ways to attack a flagstick.
This makes me think of Ben Hogan at impact. He looks like he’s hitting the ball with his hip. Look, you’ll see what I mean.
He’s not the only one 😉
🤯 freaking clever
IG Dave is smarter than your average 🐻 😊
That’s funny. I’ve done that drill and tried to keep my elbow behind the stick so I could open my hips and get separation. I thought I invented it.
@@golfdoc1950 two things can be invented at the same time without either knowing about the other 👊🤓
I see why I’m so bad at golf. The stick in the belt loop doesn’t affect what I do at all. I’m truly lost now.
@@jwfriend6952 not sure why you’re lost, not liking how you hit it?
Ole! When im looking at ernie els he's swinging half as fast as me and hitting it 50 yards farther. Maybe I shouldn't be trying to literally murder the ball?
@@andrewconnor4429 good sequencing always makes it look effortless 😉
This bad drill example seems like what Milo Lines teaches. I could be wrong, I don't follow him closely.
Lots teach the bad drill example 🫣
he actually teaches with the rod out past the lead hip and very small amount behind the trail leg so you wont hit it with the right sequence . He uses it to show you how to clear the hips
@ trying to rotate the hips while keeping the left side of the down is not how the hips clear. Nor is pushing both hips back to start that creating the right sequence.
I hope Benny U sees this video 🥶🥶 🙃lol
Who dat?
wen debate session with other philosophies?
Not following, can you elaborate?
@@AthleticMotionGolf I'd like to hear you discuss the conflicting ideas with other coaches. Maybe we can, as students of the game, all learn something
This really doesn’t help the player its targeting. Whilst I understand it will train the correct motion through impact. The player that is practicing the original drill will never be able to get into that position to use the new motion you are engraining with the new drill
Of course it helps the player it’s targeting lol.
You look rusticulusssss
The whole thing just seems misguided to me.....and then end up creating another kind of wierd drill.....from an original badly thought out drill....lol. I think the whole thing is better just shelved...and forgotten about.
You get to do whatever you want🙂
