  • In this tutorial I demonstrate how to use foundation paper piecing to make this mountain scene.
There are many variations in paper piecing techniques, I don't claim that mine is the best, but it works for me!
    Jump to specific points:
    - How to start the first piece 4:38
    - Sewing on the second piece (all others after this are done in the same way) 5:50
    - Sewing and ironing between each piece 8:27
    - Ripping off paper 20:59
    Top tips:
    1. use batiks and solid colours if you want an easy life - there is no "right" side so less chance of errors
    2. when ripping the paper off after piecing, work from the highest number piece to the lowest
Please let me know any comments and suggestions you have for the video and any requests for more tutorials!
Download the mountain pattern for free from my Payhip shop: payhip.com/Eti...
This mountain scene is part of a bundle of four available in my Etsy and Payhip shops.

I agree with everyone else. This is the best video and it finally "clicked" for me after watching it. I had watched a webinar, then the recording of the webinar about 12 times, then about 2-3 other videos about PP. Yours was the absolute best and made sense. Not only can I follow a pattern, I can even fix a mistake I made along the way and get back to where I was. Ha ha. Thanks again!

THANK YOU thank you thank you! for the tip of keeping the paper folded back while positioning the new piece. For years I have been frustrated, holding the paper up to the light, holding the new piece over its pattern piece, trying to be sure it would fit properly when I flipped the piece over to make the seam. And then so often it didn't.

That was terrific! You made the whole process easily understandable! Someone on Reddit linked me to this video of yours and now, I can tell you that I am hooked! I’ve never done foundation paper piercing but it looks fun, a great way to use up fabrics in my fabric stash. Plus a brilliant idea to make cool presents for people.
I can see a block being turned into a quilted cushion cover or even, if one is very adventurous, an entire quilt. For me though, to do a quilt this way all the blocks would have to “go” together. Meaning they would all need the same theme. Anyway, thank you so much for a brilliant tutorial! Yes, I subbed immediately, lol. I do hope that at some stage you start posting video’s again. I do hope that life is great for you and you’ve simply been too busy to post more.

it’s tiny feet being separate pieces. Or any of them really.
The other video I would LOVE would be on choosing fabrics. It can be very important. Take your hare, for example, the material you used for his eye makes the final piece awesome. If the at wasn’t there he would have a completely different look. So, I would really love and appreciate videos in those topics if you are, hopefully, still up for making and posting videos....?
