    I was an aspiring outdoor photographer when I was in high school back in 07-08. I had won some competitions and had been accepted into a reputable (but expensive) university. I emailed Jimmy and asked him for some advice on what I should do moving forward to pursue this dream of mine. To my shock and surprise he actually responded to me. All these years later and what he wrote back to me in that email is still true today.

      What advice did he give?

    • @EL-mn1pf
      @EL-mn1pf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@jakobtrock-jansen4741 I'm paraphrasing but he essentially said to avoid expensive universities & don't major in something like photography. Major in something practical and enjoy being young and in college while you can. On the side, continue to hone your craft and carefully develop it over a long period of time. After school if you want to be a dirt bag and live out of a van and focus on photography, go for it! You'll have a degree to fall back on if you loose your passion.

    • @soupnfresh
      @soupnfresh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elbob248 It would have been better. They shot the cameramen and their reaction more than the actual climb! And also, like MisfitsFriendClub wrote, the relationship part took over way too much of the film. The actual climb was what, 10 minutes. It was stupid.

    Commit to the dream --- and you will find the way to get there.
    The big lesson I took from this was the idea of accepting failure as a stepping stone to success. George Leonard once graphed the route to mastery as a series of plateaus between great leaps to the next level up. The role of persistence (dedication to incremental improvements) is paramount.
