I liked it a couple gripes was the amount of reactions used, cast shield then counter spell right after, unless I'm mistaken being legendary doesn't add more reactions per round
definitely I pictured Adrik desperately fighting on the city walls and just catching the glimpse of a old friend beginning to crest the plains and speaks his name in disbelief "Althfidon" as it cuts to Althfidon you hear him mutter the words "so Tal'is val stands alone" then Aletha,Paylor and Shelana all ride up beside him with Aletha beginning to rally the Elves with saying "Not alone........" as she begins to address the cavalry before her and speaks "Elves of the Spires! " and gives a knowing look towards Shelana, Paylor and Althfidon as the charge begins she shouts "for the republic" then druid crafts into elemental as the cavalry begin to pass over the plains straight for the southern gate
So, apparently Mark's going to be stricter on Bonus Action/Action spells next campaign, but I swear a couple weeks back he was saying he thought that rule was dumb. I've always dug the ability to cast with both an Action and a Bonus. I feel like if you're willing to sacrifice your spell slots in the long-game, you should be able to benefit in the short-game. I hope it's just stricter in terms of level or something. Kinda like how Mercer allows up to a Level 2 slot if you've already cast that turn, because he realized if given free reign, it'd be an OP ability. Mark might be realizing the same, but I hope he doesn't over-correct. It'll be fine no matter what. I just enjoy that house-rule, lol.
He said he hated the crossbow reload rule too. Until he decided to unceremoniously strip Reynard of the work around. I honestly like Mark as a DM but think perhaps he should make notes to keep his rulings consistent and within the rules both house and otherwise.
If the target has 100 hit points or fewer, it is subject to crippling pain. Otherwise, the spell has no effect on it. A target is also unaffected if it is immune to being charmed. power word pain is a charm spell
1:39:10 - Per the official rules on page 202 of the Player's Handbook, you can in fact cast a spell as a Bonus Action on the same turn as another spell _but only if_ the other spell is a Cantrip. Throughout the campaign Cam has regularly been using Bonus Action spells with non-Cantrip spells, like just now with Protection From Energy.
Yeah, Mark has stated outright that he ignores that restriction because he thinks it's dumb, specifically since it stops healers from using healing word and doing something fun in the same turn.
I only mention the actual rule because Mark literally says at the point I timestamped: "That's the other thing I'm gonna be harsher on in the new campaign, is no more of this 'I cast a full spell and then I'm gonna cast a bonus action spell'. I'm gonna stick to the full rules."
To be honest, I find that rule a bit dumb. What in reality is there stopping a caster from casting two non cantrip spells, if they have the actions and spell slots? That should be entirely their choice if they wish to burn their spell slots that quickly.
I really enjoyed this epsiode, but I just wanted to point out that Jiutou's truesight would have seen (SPOILERS) .... that the simulacrum wasn't really Fillania.
I made the decision that the Simulacrum is a wholly created duplicate as it says it is exactly like the original except it has half it's hitpoints and not an "illusion" so the Truesight wouldn't work on it. For me Truesight is being able to see through proper illusions/invisibility/ethereal etc.
Mark, while I generally enjoy watching you DM, I do think you botched the bit about Reynard's advantage on saving throws for the spell to kill Cam. Reynard rolled with advantage, as he should have, and because neither of you could immediately remember why, you discounted the proper roll which he passed. When a DM fails to properly interpret rules on the spot, player's characters should not pay for that lack. Secondly, I have to agree with Darrin's point. The description of Simulacrum expressly states that it is an illusory duplicate. What you have created is therefore not a Simulacrum if it is not illusory.
@@anthonystratton5044 “You shape an illusory duplicate of one beast or Humanoid that is within range for the entire Casting Time of the spell. The duplicate is a creature, partially real and formed from ice or snow, and it can take Actions and otherwise be affected as a normal creature. It appears to be the same as the original, but it has half the creature's hit point maximum and is formed without any Equipment. Otherwise, the Illusion uses all the Statistics of the creature it duplicates.” It’s a tangible creature that can make attacks and cast spells. So it’s not just an illusion. It’s not completely real either though. It’s made of ice and snow and takes on the shape of whatever you design it to have.
I had a lot of disagreements with decisions Mark made in the episode but this was not one of them. The simulacrum looks exactly like the creature it’s a copy of and wouldn’t as an illusion as you are reading that spell. If Jiutou was an arcane caster and was well versed in magical spells I might agree she could tell it wasn’t real with the truesight.
Wow, Mark always saying unless you have it written down you don't have it. Then Tom actually does have something written down rolls for advantage the Mark throws it out because can't immediately pull up the rule in 10secs. Then realizes that Tom does have advantage makes him roll again even though he had rolled on advantage before and passed. Sometimes the way Mark pushes things for pacing grinds my gears
She Can't Counter Spell if she can't See who is casting it.. Mark seriously "which you take when you see a creature within 60 feet of you casting a spell" not only could she not see from the darkness but she also was out of range. At lest you Mark caught that he didn't roll to stop the healing..
35:18 it would have been so cool if kim had kash vault drop kicked the dude into the other guy behind him pushing her self back behind cover and into a kick up.
Mark is a really fair DM. This time with Reynard was harsh though. His sheet said it, he rolled it at the time and he was right to do it. Admittedly, its 1 spell from Allora so no real big harm, but yeh. Tad harsh.
TheXDman123 Kim could have used her action to end the effect unless he rules it not as a mind affecting it. To be fair, there were many things not called out.
Not sure which part this is reffering to since im only half through. But he was rather forgiving with the natural 1 when reynard was hanging off the ship trying to get back up. That shoulda been straight up you fall
Some of it though is he's basically trying to force the players to "Grow up". They make A LOT of mistakes on their end, forgetting bonuses and advantages and etc, and he constantly has to "babysit" them.
Takes around 8 days to travel from there to Talis'Val... Thats not even accounting how long the journey back from Greybell was.. also the size of the relief force could've varied from a small contingent lead by Testiment and Lebrim or an entire army of warrior monks
Well shit. This level up is brilliant for Kim and Juitou. She has Diamond Soul, which means she has proficiency in all saving throws. That makes her FAR more resilient. And all damage Cantrips upgrade their damage by one dice at certain levels - 5th, 11th, and 17th levels. Cam Buckland is a true Dark Souls character - He is Parry King Heat Metal is almost retardedly strong. I love it. It also happens to give disadvantage on attacks caused by the Heat Metaled guy if he'd taken damage from it. PW: Stun IS a Charm Effect - Creatures immune to charm are immune to PW:S. And Didn't she Counterspell and Shield in the same turn? Or am I going crazy?
juito would have seen it was a simalacrum with truesight (void stance), she may not have known, but seeing her as a giant snowman would of been of note.. bad form.. also missed ALOT of concentration checks, pretty much all of raynards attacks. and as others have pointed out, PW P is a charm, juito could have ended that per her monk ability.. sorry to rules lawyer so much, but it felt like you were cheating quite a bit.
You might seem like you're being evil or bad being a Rules Lawyer, as you put it, but Mark reads these comments and remembers them. He pays attention, he learns, and he admits to his mistakes. That's why he's such a good DM. b ^^ d
It also comes to mind that this fake Fellania isn't wearing her noted Dawn Shard amulet. I know they often forget things over time but in character it should be pretty damn suspicious.
But freaks out that she's low on spells and thus "can't do anything" ignoring the big powerful bow that was a reward for the end of part 1 of her arc. Almost never uses it when she's low on everything else.
EDIT: It is from storm kings thunder packs (pre-painted loot box minis) although obviously repainted to look better. Forgot that it is common practice to re-release old moulds as they are expensive to make and profiting twice is a win. (See transformers toy-line for reference, happens all the time) Super weird to comment on such and old vid, but I just found out that Wizkids is producing that exact giant figure for 2019 release. Hair is different, but pose and other stuff is the same. Mark how did you get it so long before it was even announced as a product ? (or anyone else who might find this comment and knows) or did your campaign influence wizkids? (putting on tin-foil hat)
I could be wrong but I think Can should have been out of the prison at least a round before. Felaunia took damage and didn't roll a con save when Reynard did 30 damage I believe.
Could anyone clarify why Reynard is getting extra damage for Favoured Enemy? In the PHB it says nothing about extra damage or to hit, is this a homebrew rule or have I missed something?
Still reeling from last episode... I'm just gonna pretend Lady Amy uses the orb and reinstates the good ol status quo because if I don't I'm gonna puke.
@1:50 It is not the same as rolling and saving for an attack because he rolled advantage and said he was doing it at the time (he had no plans to save the roll for later). The dm could not remember that he had advantage but that did not change that he did and rolled for it and had it. This would be different if he had rolled for something he did not have or could not do and decided to save that roll after finding out he could not do it but that is not the case and thus it is the DM being unfair. That being said he should have his character and its abilities memorized by now and I can understand the dm doing this to make a point of making them do better at keeping track of all the stats/abilities their character has. If you use the spell cards go get a trading card binder (the binders with the clear sleeves inside for showing off cards) and put the cards in that. You can do this for each class and have a sort of spellbook for anyone who needs it. Alternatively, just use the digital character sheets from dndbeyond to make things easier.
I will say this that when Kim asked if it was a charm possibly due to the fact one of her Monk Abilities makes her immune 'Power word: Pain' doesn't work against beings immune to charm and the spell even says this so idk why mark over ruled it though Giant magic is old but Technically the Elves taught Giants' magic ;p Literally Elven High Magic can rewrite the weave which is the equivalent of rewriting history
@MarkHolmes I'm wondering what your stance is on Polymorph on allies? I mean, what if Cam decided to Polymorph Elora? Are you going with Player Level == CR or half or a third?
I love these but as a fellow dm i feel so bad for Mark having to deal with Kim trying to constantly rule lawyer. It's hard, you want players to be inventive but she tries to instantly negate any negative and it really slows combat.
Aaron Looking through the other comments people are saying how a ton of mistakes were made. With charm spells and resistances and concentration. She was in the right
Snoot Snat that's not the point, she's annoying. Her character is the most uninteresting out of all of them (and Elora is as generic as can be). Kim as a character constantly "pseudo-metagames" throughout the whole series and it's just gotten to the point where it's annoying now. Even when it comes to checks that she shouldn't have done, she does them, just to maximise success which is some what meta gaming in my opinion (i.e. someone would make a role, and then she'd want to do it to. Or someone would role and fail and then she'd try and do or something similar to succeed)
@@snuffsaid1703 she was in the right.... She is just an annoying player. Jiutou is a selffish self centered and hypocritical character. I love kim a lot. Her play style is not for me though. As a mix i enjoy the show so it really doesn't bother me too much. She is just like Keyleth in Vox Machina. She is just easy to hate for being a hypocritical jerk.
she never bothers to learn her characters so that its easier to ask if she has advantage xD plus its easier to meta game when you dont know your character's mechanics by pleading ignorance dont get me wrong, i started with campaign 2, where shes a lot better, but a lot of their shorter series or their earlier stuff, she just doesnt seem to be bothered to actually know how her characters work. trott is just as bad, but actually rps it in a way that isnt just to be to his advantage.
It really annoys me when DMs "cheat". I'm sure it's unintentional (most of the time), but this fight was utter bollocks. Multiple reactions per round, ignoring player abilities or ruling that they don't work when the rules explicitly state they do, getting the enemy spells wrong and then punishing the players for the DMs mistake, and oh so many concentration checks missed. DMs have all the power over the game, and they have a responsibility to know their own abilities/spells just as players do. Mistakes happen, I'm not concerned about individual mistakes, but this entire fight was so riddled with "mistakes" that it becomes hard to believe it wasn't intentional cheating.
It's happened a couple times already, but this battle was just the worst. So many issues. I'm so glad in Campaign 2 things improved greatly. I started watching them with C2 and started watching Lightfall because I liked Aerois. But if I had startee with Lightfall, I wouldn't have finished and never watched Aerois because of how bad things are here.
@orionjaeger2822 yeah I'm in the same boat. Loved campaign 2 and caught up in campaign 3. Went back to lightfall since I missed out. If I started with it, especially with early Kim, I would have had a hard time getting through it xD
not gunna lie that second dominate was bs, he rolled his advantage yes he firgit why vut so did mark...kinda just feels like marked banked on somone being dominated for this fight and had to tilt in tha favour...which wasnt really fair

Lee Tzabach Reynard uses the semi official unearthed arcana ranger
He uses the revised ranger, the one that isn't a hot pile of doo doo. Because the original ranger is crap.

It's adamantine medium armour (I can't remember which type) they found in Greybell and got altered for him.

Am I the only one who thinks its weird for a Cloud Giant to have Storm Guardians?

Why the fuck does Kim take so long to take her turns?
Lorenzo Lodge and still seems to be unsure of how her bloody character works!
Every round of combat "I think I'll just leave..."
she never bothers to learn her characters so that its easier to ask if she has advantage xD
plus its easier to meta game when you dont know your character's mechanics by pleading ignorance
dont get me wrong, i started with campaign 2, where shes a lot better, but a lot of their shorter series or their earlier stuff, she just doesnt seem to be bothered to actually know how her characters work.
trott is just as bad, but actually rps it in a way that isnt just to be to his advantage.
didn't reynard give the griffin to his uncle.
ryanrebel123 no, because he used it about two episodes ago too.
Ryan Gil but even then I thought that he shouldn't of had it because he gave it to his uncle
Oh my lord oh my lord oh my lord
Finally caught up yesss
I accidentally turned on the auto-captions. It's hilarious how wrong they are. I pity anyone who needs them :P
