Dreamgirls is my favorite (and in my opinion the absolute best) musical ever. This addition of this song to the musical after its success in the 2005 film was a great idea. I must admit, however, that of the three sets of lyrics that have been written for the song (the original from the movie, the second from the 2009 revival, and this one which made its debut with the London premiere, I believe), this last set is the weakest. My personal favorite is the second set, with the film lyrics not far behind. I just don't find the lyrics used for this third rendition to be as powerful or as musically sound. They're still great, but I just feel they lack the true power and gravitas of the first two sets of lyrics. Others will disagree, and that's okay. Lyrics can strike different chords in all of us. I just thank God that Dreamgirls is still around and is just as amazing as it's always been!
