I haven't had time to listen to the whole Bombcast on top of the Beastcast recently. Thanks for doing these highlight clips.

This picture perfectly fits the situation.

They mention around 41:50 or so to not buy a predatory game to send a message to devs, but I would argue even that doesn't solve anything now. I haven't bought a Madden or 2K sports game for over a decade and both of those games still make money hand over fist with super predatory mechanics, largely because they shoehorn you into microtransactions by frustrating you with everything else in the game and they usually give out free codes by the hundreds of thousands to offset people not buying the game with billions in MUT or MyTeam/MyFaction earnings.
Not buying the game doesn't really solve things like it used to. There needs to be either a reform forced by a higher power than the industry itself or a complete collapse of the industry. Seems we're almost guaranteed to head for the latter at this rate.

Super Mario Bros. 2 literally had a slot machine mini-game in between levels. Jeff is right, casino like mechanics can exist in a game without it being intrusive. It's when you have to shell out real money that it becomes fucking weird and gross...

It's not really the lootboxes that are the big problem, its the star cards and how much better they could make you be. Giving people damage boosts and making Boba Fett invincible when flying is awful especially behind a random system. Some roulette wheel that gives you random things in a single player campaign really isn't a problem because in the end it just makes you want to play the game more versus the other player you are playing against has cards to give you a handicap.

I wonder if anybody from GB has talked to Johnny V since all of this went down. I had completely forgotten he was involved with Battlefront

Quote "You only make a move like that if your business is being impacted negatively" JEFF YOU WANNA SEE THE FUTURE, MAN? I want to talk to you, like, through a phone that's able to to speak across years of time. AND THEN SINK YOUR HEART EVEN FURTHER.. Look at this state we're in.. We're screwed man, I wonder what you would've said if I showed you a picture of the future

In a kinda weird backhanded defense of Disney/Lucasarts, I don't think the folks in charge over there care about Video Games and Gamers. Think about how reactionary they are, going back and forth with either licensing out or producing in house because a project like Disney Infinity wasn't making as much money as they wanted despite still doing financially and critically well. That in mind, makes sense they could be in favor of/encouraged/encouraging/whatever this kind of toxic business practice; they don't care, therefore they don't understand. And while you may think logical business decisions and research should be enough to trump bad business remember THEY STILL WENT AHEAD AND DID IT!

2024 and things still aren't better. Mortal Kombat 1 is literally a fucking slot machine with fatalities.

You can buy Battlefront 1 with all the DLC now for literally five dollars if you just want to play a Star Wars game and I can’t believe anyone would pay eight times more for such a vastly inferior game.
