Folks have oversimplified what these things are. Cooking and cleaning is just a matter of fact, but there is also the fact that many of these women entertain guests at functions, they behave in a certain manner because she is a representative of her husband and family everywhere she goes, she is supposed to offer her husband wise counsel when he is planning things, she’s supposed to make sure that the children are given a value system that leads them to being upstanding members of the community (and know that they also represent their parents and family when they step into the world), etc. Women are supposed to offer some value other than their 🐱, and this goes for anywhere on the socioeconomic spectrum. The “soft life” comes with it.
