It depends if it’s an up tier or a down tier, just like other 9.3 aircraft, for example the ariete although that thing is extreme because it’s dodges 9L/60M very easily
The ariete and sagg are unique planes imo for WT, they’re jet aircraft that are surprisingly fast and extremely agile with AMAZING guns, but that’s the issue. They’re EXTREMELY powerful at a br where other airframes perform similarly due to the range and accuracy of the guns, but perform dreadfully at higher BR’s because it has no flares, and while dodging them is possible tryin to fight SuperSonics with missiles in a plane that’s nowhere near as fast is hard. I play the sagg a TONNE and at this point it’s a vulture aircraft more than a true fighter. This is something that so many aircraft deal with and honestly wouldn’t be an issue if gaijin sorted out the god damn BR’s and finally decrompressed them

Outside of gameplay for raw power and performance Lightning pilot Ian Black tells you the lightning was only matched for performance by the f-15 towards the end of its career/time. The lightning had NO equal for brute force in its time. Also ask the Aggressor pilots who visited UK in their F-5 and lost all 1v2 v the lightning.
Saudi Royal air force enjoyed them for many years after the RAF!.. one outclimbed the U2 and one actually caught the Concorde.. also the lightening was capable of breaking the sound barrier vertical..

Sure, but it's main draw backs IRL were in respect to it's role as an interceptor. A role which hardly exists in Warthunder and consists mostly of bullying bomber players, assuming you get a BR where they exist which the Lightning often won't.
How can someone make red tops so legit when they are quite literally one of the most frustrating missiles in the game. If you can get reaaaal close to someone they are magical.. But that ain’t easy

@@natacus1234 I got it while it was a pack so around £45-50 but I think it would be around 8000-9000 GE. The rockets aren't super useful as they have a lot of dispersion but if you fire 16 at once it can be a funny way of taking out bombers, but generally just bring the Red Tops and that's it. It's actually a decent counter to the F-104 with it being capable of occasionally chasing them down if they turn but the Starfighter is still way faster at most altitudes
Its where the Lightning belongs. Not much in its initial age/timeframe was upto facing it. That being said, it probably needs to sit in an area of pre alpha 4th gen planes. So IMHO facing off against mig 21s (for example) is ballpark. I have no idea how the A10s and SU25s got to the place the are. The game turned them into monsters - which against fast jets they should not be.

Nah it still sucks. It might just be me getting bad BR games but i have had limited success with this. And the missiles are bad too, i have had more kills using the guns then i have with the missiles which just shouldn’t be the case. I try use it every now and then because it’s British, i like the EE Lightning and it has history with my Grandads SQN, he was a armourer in 74sqn RAF, they flew the Lightning but i just get slapped 90% of the time by jets with better missiles and counter measures. Playing British jets takes A LOT of patience because we get fuckall with our jets. Only including TECH TREE aircraft, the UK has 28 jets, 14 don’t have missiles, 19 of the jets don’t get counter measures. And most if the 14 jets that don’t get missiles sit in a BR where missiles are present for every one else. Its horrid

I never unlocked the tech tree British Lightning. Does the one modeled in War Thunder have what I considered a neat feature of the plane in real life: air-to-air missiles being mounted above the wing?
Only the premium one had that, it could mount rockets above the wing but the tech tree one only carries 2x missiles mounted to the fuselage with the choice of 2 fire streaks and later 2 red tops
I think you have mistaken the Lightning for the Jaguar. Later variants of SEPECAT Jaguar in British service had sidewinders mounted above the wings. The Lightning did have over-wing fuel tanks and the Saudis experimented with over-wing rocketpods which is in the game but only on the premium F.53 which isnt for sale

I love the lightning and I always will but the flight model is comically bad, out preformed by f104a's in every aspect when irl it shouldnt, same with the new missile buffs/ nerf or Atleast when it comes to that the missiles are closer but without the 15g pull
9.0/9.3 to 10.0/10.3 USA is a mess all around. Balance just favours Mig 21 (Russian) teams all the time. You can play 10 battles in a row and lose them all and face at least 4 mig21's in each game and on the odd occasion you get teamed up with Russia it'll be a downtier and you'll have su-7's and no mig21's but the opposition will have German mig21's instead. There has to be a case for mixing up Russian and USA teams in every battle since they seem to be the majority choice even with the USA seemingly having the weaker lineups and weaker missiles, especially when it comes to the headons with all aspect missiles you face and are mostly unavoidable. The A10's are so late to the battle they're not gonna help out and should you miraculously survive to actually reach the battlefield then you'll just get locked up endlessly by su-25's. It's really not very fun at all. Add to that I started playing the Swedish line with the SK60B and it's airspawn, which I thought might be fun, so you get to go 1 v 4 or 5 vs F-84's which climb higher and faster and obviously with those numbers you're screwed. So spawn on the runway and you're slower than your friendly jets blah blah, same outcome most often. Switch to USA/British bombers, no F-84's to cover you, just SK60's with missiles at the same altitude as your bomber... more fun, not. They need to consider BR's that change as you modify your aircraft so you're not using AIM-9B' s against 10.3 aircraft for one thing and maybe stop downtiering 11.3's to 10.0 because there aren't enough at 11.0 and higher for them to face. Jets are a joke for matchmaking overall, the balance is awful and the gameplay mindless.
ive never been killed by a lightning. i love when they think they can come kill me in my sabers ect. youll never get those guns on me, and the missiles have no chance. but...im also better than 90% of the playerbase. but i personally h8 the lightning an love the 104a/c.
Okay what is your k:d in your av8a then ? Cos i played a lot of nations upto or past 9.7 and I have never feared the early british or american Harriers.
Lightning F.6 doesnt get a research penalty for the Tornado F.3 because it is the previous vehicle
