Vincent d'Indy seems to be a very wrongfully underrated and forgotten composer. Thank you olla-vogala for making us discover his awesome music! This string quartet is a pure gem!!
Je ne connaissais pas ce compositeur, juste de nom, et je le trouve vraiment génial! La presentation est bien faite aussi, je suis altiste et ça m'aide beaucoup de lire la partition tout en écoutant le morceau! Continuez c'est un beau concept!
An unusual key for strings is it not? Clearly the reflection of a soul that fortune smiled upon, one can imagine the feelings this romanic liason must have brought to his life, like a gift, a gift that must have been like a rebirth that gave back to the world. I can hardly imagine a more fully mature statement that can be made than what we are hearing now. What more could anyone possibly want from a string quartette?
+scottbos68 I agree with your words, you can really hear the joy he must have experienced. Just compare this to any Shos string quartet... And D flat major is certainly an unusual key for strings!
I didn't say it but I was thinking it, this is much like a ray of sunshine amidst alot of doom and gloom from shellshock of "the great war" that was being produced around the same time by his contemporaries. Just goes to show how love can turn your life around. Somehow you said what i omitted, were you reading my mind again? LoL
I loved your prose intro, I learned much about d'Indy that I didn't know. I like this piece a lot, especially the variations. As with many sets of variations, I wish that some of them would be extended (of course that would ruin the overall proportions of the movement). I feel the same with Brahms variations as for example in the B-flat Sextet. Anyway, this quartet is definitely worth a second hearing.
On second hearing I find the variations are great as they stand and the finale is gorgeous and makes me want to explore d'Indy more. He is so rich in counterpoint. So many of the early Twentieth Century French composers have a temperament and technique that I find compelling, especially Ravel, Roussel, Francaix, and Les Six. But of course, Saint-Saens was an incredible influence and Debussy created his own world.
Hi olla! I would like to thank you because since I suscribed to you some months ago I have discovered a lot of new composer and compositions. I also would like to ask you: Do you take any requests for future uploads?
+olla-vogala Walton Viola Concerto (played by Yuri Bashmet and the LSO) And all Shostakovich string quartets set, like what you did with Bartók It would be amazing (played by Emerson String Quartet) And don't worry, I can wait until you finish the to-do list Keep up the good work!
Please watch this at the lowest quality only (144p) since it's just for the music, which is much more ecologically responsible than at a higher rate. Watching this at 240p (which is unnecessary for listening purposes), will increase the bandwith by double to almost tenfold! At 1080 the bandwith is augmented by a factor of 100! The use of digital technology accounts for 4% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, as much as the emissions from the world's truck fleet. Of that, a BIG part comes from livestreaming videos, mainly 3 sources : TH-cam, Netflix and porn. Let's enjoy this beautiful music by being aware and responsible, doing our little part in decreasing our carbon footprint and protecting this wonderful planet for the generations to come.

This string quartet is absolutely wonderful!✨️🎶
Many thanks, for this really great quartet, the most beautiful of the three complete quartets. Regrettable the fourth is unfinished.
Such a breathtaking piece!

+Torterra kart Thank you! Yes I do, but the to-do list is rather long so it will take some time I'm afraid... which piece would you like to see?
