    I felt like a kid in a candy store watching this video. It reminded me of the late 70's early 80's when I would go to hi fi shops just auditioning speakers. There where so many good quality speakers at that time and very reasonably priced. Your tour really brought me back. Your collection is unbelievable.

      Me too! At home I still have a Mullard 20-5 valve amp from the 60's, a Yamaha CA800 (80-80W class A-B) amp from the 80's. A pair of Spendor BCII's, a pair of B&W (DM1400) that I love for acoustic jazz and classical music.
      In 1975 I was sen. tech at UniMelb. Electronic Music Studio, 8x JBL 4311's connected to an EMS Synthi 100 "what a hoot of a setup"
      The 8x 4311's were just amazing for electronic music! LesC.

    The Celestion SL-600 cabinet is made from all aluminum. It got an aluminum honeycomb center structure with two pieces of aluminum sandwiching the honeycomb structure in-between them. They call it Aerolam and claimed it was used in the floors of aircraft because of its strength and lightweight. It's extremely inert acoustically.
    The "paint" is called nextel and was used for it's acoustic properties to stop the sound from being refracted(?) as it traveled around the cabinet.

    I was hoping to see NHT Super Zero bookshelf speakers and 3.3 towers. About 25 years ago, I compared NHT to Paradigm, B&W, Apogee, Totem, and others while working at a hi-fi store, generally preferring the NHT sound over the field. The 3.3 towers went toe-to-toe with anything remotely in their size range including Wilson Watt/Puppies, while the Super Zero/One was the bargain hi-fi standard for legions of loyal NHT customers.

    Great tour! I also have a set of the little A/D/S you show at the beginning. Some of the paint was chiped on mine so I sanded the boxes and they are now brushed aluminum like the Celestion speakers you refinished. I also replaced the speaker wire push tabs with five way binding post. They now look as fantastic as they sound!

    Hi Fernando, Just so you know the SL600 was made from aerolam an aluminium honeycombed structure as used in aircraft flooring. When they first made the box it was found they sounded much poorer than they expected. They then discovered the adhesive used to bond the joints massively affected the sound. The rest is history....

    The JBL Century L100 are really not very good sounding.Fine as party speakers and very good drivers but there is no crossover on the woofer so you get a very grungy /shouty sort of sound. The tweeter sounds like an insect zapper.Listener fatigue sets in very quickly.

    The Martin Logan is a nice looking speaker,however it is blasphemy. I also have a few pairs of Kef Speakers.I have Celestion SL6si's,DL 6 ll's, model 3's, and the rare Celestion 300 transmision line floor standing speakers, rarely seen outside the UK.I also have a pair of Linn Index speakers.also Rogers LS3 5a's.( Love Them Still). I had L100's back in the day.great speaker,but shit crossovers.I upgraded them with the much better L112 crossovers. I have the rare JBL C53 libras,with LE 14c dual concentric drivers! McIntosh used Polk drivers.was never impressed! McIntosh never made their own speakers.Junk,but worth money.Sonus Faber's are beautiful,using primarily Scan Speak drivers.I have a pair of B&W dm 302's.great budget speakers with multi directional wall mounted support brackets. Wilson Watt Puppy's, that took Scan Speak woofers and the absolute best reverse dome tweeter ever made! I know, I have a pair the Focal T120TI tweeters.( 20 oz magnets).those Jadi's were the coolest things I ever saw when they came out!.Those Goldmunds you have are using the worst sounding Focal tweeters I ever heard.i had a pair. K 120's .Focal discontinued them in the 90's.Damn,I had a pair Apogee mini Grands with Dedicated Subs. Hard to drive. But great sounding.thats why Big Krell and Mark Levinson amps came out.to power Apogee's.The Eggelston speakers you have were groundbreaking. Dynaudio Esotar tweeters,w/ Morel 6 1/2 midbass drivers operating ful range. I traded a guy for a pair of those Original Apogees,but one woofer panel was damaged.I sold them through audio Mart.when I lived in Cleveland the Buyer drove all the way from Boulder, Colorado to pick them up heavy as all hell.Bryston does not make speakers either. Focal kics ass! I have 4pairs of them.

    A note about the JBL 4343. The horn lens sounds amazing. I’ve owned a number of JBL horn/lens combinations, have listened extensively with and without the removable lens and can enthusiastically endorse JBL’s lens design as the most perfect dispersion element I’ve ever heard for a HF horn. Symdex speakers are really great. I had a chance to own them from Jeremy Kipnis. Great sounding speakers. These were the last speakers made by Kevin Voecks’ original company that operated up through the late 90's. The 3-way Epsilon Signature was the new owner’s (Leland Wallace) update of Voecks’ design. The Signature version was their final statement speaker, made around 1995 and cost $5000 at the time.

  • @ronliebermann
    @ronliebermann ปีที่แล้ว

    Everybody is familiar with the compression of sound waves, that’s why an ambulance siren changes pitch as it drives past you.
    In theory, you could build a speaker cabinet with three speakers, each in a different plastic tube. Each tube would have an electric fan with a variable speed motor. So, for example, the bass notes coming from the biggest speaker would exit the tube riding on a forty mile per hour wind. By changing the speed of the forced air, you could change the pitch of the music.
    That would require a separate midi track to control the fan speed of each tube as the music plays. But I think that the speakers would have to be mounted backwards inside the tube for compression to occur. I don’t know.
