Spraying the engine bay with water and peppermint oil wouldn't hurt anything.. the water will evaporate and the oil will be left behind .. most automobile manufacturers use weather proof connectors on the exterior connectors you can identify this by unplugging a random connector and looking inside one half their will be a rubber ring to seal out the weather : however I have seen water penetrate these connectors... A light spray shouldn't hurt anything .. remember when you drive in the rain water will splash everywhere including the engine bay .. great tip !! We use peppermint oil constantly
This is great to know Mike! Thank you. I though this might be the case, but I’m one to error on the side of caution. Thanks to your comments on the repair video I will be taking apart that connector for the fuel injector that. I’ve never even tried to take one apart.

Use the air freshener Christmas trees that you buy in the store and douse it with the peppermint oil and then hang it in your vehicle engine. That way you can keep adding peppermint oil to the same tree over and over on a weekly basis. That works great too, because it absorbs the oil.
Thanks for the tip! New car.. new house… new rodents 😭 ate through some wire 2 weeks ago, thank God my son works at an auto shop. He fixed the wiring and put in what looked like 2 small pieces of corn cob but it’s poison. 2 days ago I’m driving along check engine comes on, pull over lift hood and another huge nest 😡 drove over to the shop son pulls out nest AND the biggest rat I have ever seen! (Dead from corn ) fixes wire. Today I found another nest, cleaned it out decided to pull car up so I could see into engine with security camera and leave hood open. 10pm camera goes off and big old hoodrat having a grand old time. Found your video and now have 10 cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil around my engine till I can deal with it properly in the morning. Mountain living. Hope the bears don’t like the smell of peppermint or I just traded one problem for another 😂
eucalyptus with or without rosemary, and use castor oil as a carrier to make it thicker may help. Insects of all types hate it and if they come in contact with it, they really get overwhelmed by the smell and it kills them. So, maybe it will deter rodents too.
I have met and spoken to Shawn Woods and I am a subscriber to his channel. He lives in the area. I really liked his 10 trap rat trap. We had a problem with rats about 15 months ago and I made a modified four trap rat trap (four holer) using his concept because I needed to use it in the chicken house (let the rats in, keep chickens out). I caught 35 rats in and around my chicken house. I am a believer that you have to change things up with rats; switch baits and use nitrile gloves when handling the trap. I used chicken feed, Black oil sunflower seeds, peanut butter and almonds and almond butter.. One night after trapping for about 3 months, I caught the big daddy in the four holer all by himself. I got to a point that the rats quit coming to the trap, so I made 1/2" peanut butter and baking soda balls 50/50% and that finished the population off. Tried the cornmeal and baking soda and had no luck with it. Rat free for 6 months now. I loaned the four holer rat trap out to a friend and she caught over 30 rats on her farm.
Good advice! also consider cloves Plus a small dish of cornmeal and equal parts baking soda --- mice and rats cant FART and will 'explode' after eating it.
What's the explode you got to pick it up and I'm scared I just want something to sleep and leave me alone but my nephew keep her dirty room I guess I'm going to have to clean it up NOT I'll put them out

I bought a brand new Toyota Tacoma a few months ago, I only have a 2 car garage, and the truck is a 3rd vehicle, so it sits outside. Well the interior fan was making a weird noise, so took it to the dealership, they had to replace the cabin filter and clean out the fan because they said either mice or some other rodent got into the truck. The truck has 2k miles on it, and the rodents are ruining it. Cost me 268.00 to have the dealership fix it.
Guess the mice here didn't get the memo. Been spraying peppermint oil all summer in my truck, turned the heater on the other day and obviously the oil hadn't deterred them at all. Currently trying a real coarse grade of steel wool.
I used to do both but with the peppermint on the cotton it's better because the water isn't diluting it, causing the peppermint smell to disappear faster.

Brian, I tried to give my cats wild mint, but they can tell the difference between that and catnip. My tom cat, after the second time begged for catnip after that. Isn't peppermint oil flammable? Yes it is. The exhaust gets very hot. I am sure it will repel rodents, but if there is a non flammable repellent I would go with that.
Didn’t work for me. Squirrels got my wiring harness. Spent the weekend soldering 15 wires back together. Hosed down the whole engine compartment with 2 bottles of Peppermint spray when I was done. Concentrated on the harness where it had been chewed. 24 hours later, opened the hood and a full nest was in there. Pulled out the nest, and the same harness was chewed in the same area. Same 15 wires had to be soldered again. Only difference was that the offending rodent had fresh breath.

There's a mild oil based pepper spray called Critter Ridder that I've tried that seems to be working.
I've tried cellulose and peanut butter in the trees as well. My next step is a co² pistol. I'm pissed. 2 insurance claims in 1 week totalling $8000
@chaoticpuppet1...WOW, I've heard some people who have certain types of homeowners insurance have had their cars declared totaled by the insurance company because the damage was so extensive.
Doesn't work. Neither does Grandpa Gus's spray....or fox urine granules around the perimeter of the car. What gives??!!!
Works around the back patio as well to keep bees and wasps away.
There's no reason not to spray wires and metal with peppermint oil, I spray everything!
A more effective way is to post a sign, "No Nesting Here!!!".
Isn't peppermint oil flammable? Yes it is. The exhaust gets very hot. I am sure it will repel rodents, but if there is a non flammable repellent I would go with that.
Only way is traps and poison. They are advanced, clever.
Cayenne pepper 🌶.... Only thing that actually works
it's a buit in dropper ha
the little things.
Does not work
My mom called me yesterday at told me the exact opposite
Didn’t work for me. Squirrels got my wiring harness. Spent the weekend soldering 15 wires back together. Hosed down the whole engine compartment with 2 bottles of Peppermint spray when I was done. Concentrated on the harness where it had been chewed.
24 hours later, opened the hood and a full nest was in there. Pulled out the nest, and the same harness was chewed in the same area. Same 15 wires had to be soldered again. Only difference was that the offending rodent had fresh breath.
Will this attract Bears???
hey i have that same bottle you didn't steal mine did you lol?
😂 I plead the fifth!
And snakes they don’t like peppermint
that stuff is 12 bucks a bottle
I got it for like 9 locally. A few drops will do you and last at least a couple months.
@@ThatFixItGuy $6.99 at Target
i just bough a brand new truck engine light came on rodents ate my wires 300 bucks no warranty an rodents ha
Oh man sorry to hear that.
40 or 50 drops in an indeterminant amount of water.... really>? Why not be more specific like 50 drops per 2 or 3 cups of water? We don't need 'estimates' here. Still, I gave a thumbs up.
