It's a shame she didn't sign. Labels (even small ones) will ALWAYS present unfriendly and outrageously one-sided contracts to the artists.. But they can be negotiated most of the time. Saying "no" without trying to change the contract clauses is a no-no. As an entertainment lawyer, I can say that, in the 90s, artists would actually go to lawyers but were very reluctant to follow the advice (i.e, to negotiate), because of the "friendly" relationship they had with the label, let alone the managers who often presented themselves as the second daddy, the best friend, and many female managers being the actual girlfriend... I don't how many times I've heard "this would ruin the vibe", "I don't wanna look like I don't trust". Even when we explain that they can keep on having a good vibe with the label/manager (who btw, do have lawyers) and the tough talk can be from lawyer to lawyer, it's still very difficult to remove that apprehension... And 12 months later, you get that late evening phone call from the distressed artist who says that (s)he's been screwed and asks if you can help sue...

You're speaking from your perspective. You get paid when these clients call you and ask you for help.
No... I think Tammy made the right choice.

@@CharlieXFBA And I suppose that, from your perspective I'm getting paid for night calls. That's not how it works. You agree on a fee first with the client. You assess the chances of winning and then you decide to take a case

@@Sauvageonne I know exactly how it works. And you're speaking from the perspective of someone who would have something to gain. Therefore, your opinion is biased, based on your profession.
But from the perspective of Tammy, she actually made the right decision considering the lack of experience and marketing that Virgin records put into the "Urban" section of their label at the time.
Don't try to act you know more because you're an attorney.

@@CharlieXFBA I am indeed talking from my perspective, but you don't know it because you don't know me. Perhaps you know Tammy's perspective and you know her. If you talk about YOUR perspective, I'm all ears.

I love listening to her stories. Cool that she gave you a second interview! Her demeanor is different than the first time. She’s very comfortable with you.😊

Thank you for noticing. We spoke for over 4 hours this time and she was ready to share her story from Teddy Riley to the Neptunes, Kelis and other broken promises from people she trusted

I was so upset when I finally looked her up to see if she ever released an album after years of listening to "Is It Good to You" from the Juice soundtrack and the feature she has with Tribe on 1nce Again. Only to find out that she never did drop an album. Her voice is so beautiful and was made for the New Jack era.
