Honestly both sides have their points. It can either be a great time or ruin your whole night. It really just depends on what time you're on and what instance you end up in. As long as you have your safeties on and aren't afraid to block people then go ahead and check it out. If you don't have a good time you can always find another instance or world.
VR's definitely a wild west when it comes to social interaction, but the black cat is just a rodeo. I feel like the great pug also experiences this to some degree, but the architecture of the pug gives you a lot of options if you're too swarmed by people; allows for conversations to not bleed over eachother too. Everyone recognizes the user side of things (defo the most important) but the way indoor worlds are structured also influences how the night's gonna go in that room. Mirror gang will absolutely vouch for me on this one
This description applied to me back when i started playing vrchat in 2018 (august more specifically) and going to the great pug but during that time safety settings didn't exist yet so crashers were running mock but most of the time i didn't encounter that many crashers my self (lucky, yes) but it was still fun in the end and i managed to meet of course many people while befriending them 😊
Sometimes in VRchat, if I don’t feel like talking to anybody but still want a living world, I’ll put on a Bartender Avatar and pretend to sort glasses at Black Cat while actually being there to listen to all the crazy, interesting, and hilarious things that occur. Having a couple Tall Boys or Pot really drives home that fun and in turn, everyone gets some realism with a Bartender in the background while telling their stories.
!!!!!!!! Omg someone else who does this! I wear a maid avatar and put all the glasses back on the bar, plates on the table, presents under the tree etc. I have anxiety, and I think it helps expose me to loud, chaotic environments without being overwhelmed and its satisfying seeing the instance all neat again lol
I remember the cat when it started becoming popular. It was basically just a quest compatible pug at the time. It was a small world for a while because for the first year the quest existed, quest users were few and far between. Now the pug is basically just a PC only black cat.
I feel like the pug dodged a bullet for the vibes it's trying to maintain by actively choosing not to implement quest compatibility, but for me, it's kind of sad that the fact kids can buy the quest 2 or were gifted a quest 2 and it's the only vr platform I can afford and most of my vrchat friends are pcvr users and here I am barred from hanging out the virtual spaces they go to. I don't go to vrchat these days as much as I used to mostly because of that.
Hey! I am in the video I was the VRChat Veteran. Thanks for Phia for wanting to share my experiences with The Great Pug and The Black Cat. I do think there are plenty of great worlds to explore VRChat and find friends. My recommendation is "No Time Two Talk" world which randomly places you in a room with other players 1 on 1 to meet and talk and share interests. I think it's the best place to meet people otherwise exploring VRChat and the new group update will help out newer players find their friends!
As a VRChat player myself, I can say this hits right on the point. VRChat is essentially the Internet as a whole, a lot of stuff happens. The Black Cat certainly has to deal with the lobbies full of children, the crashers, the trolls, etc. But I have also met a lot of really chill people there. It's not the world itself, it's the community that surrounds it. Watching the chaos unfold, people watching, can be quiet fun. If you get a bad luck of the draw on your lobby, well, you can always switch, there's more than one lobby. If none work, then come back later. The Black Cat is just one of those that's hard to explain, you kind of just have to experience it yourself.
I've been playing since 2018 and honesty the pug was such a different vibe its hard to describe. It had a much more mature / creative & actually funny community surrounding it, but then again as you said it was how the community was at the time of its peak. Vrchat's whole vibe before easily accessable vr headsets and covid was something that I dont think will ever return. I love that more people can experience vr but I truly miss what it used to be. Now whenever I join public lobbies someones idea of fun is screaming, spamming hard R, using eye r@pey visuals, sitting in a mirror, and just overall it feels like the actual charm and creativity was sucked out of the game despite having so many amazing new softwares such as Udon.
Me personally, I only get on vrchat because I love exploring worlds! Even though I'm a minor myself, the kids on vrchat is definitely another big issue. I can't even relax without one of them just screaming in their mic.
I tend to mentally block out the screaming kids. But I also tend to out right block those that get annoying with inflammatory hate talk. Such as the few that have gone out of their way to harass people for various reasons, such as being a furry, or being a quest user. Yea, some kid who must have been a rich snot, that could afford a good PC rig, went out of his way to harass some people I was with, for being quest users. I blocked that guy so fast, and suggest to the rest of them to do the same. As for me, I do have a great PC rig, and feel a bit sorry for the issues some do have when using a Quest in VRchat. I can't feel too bad for them though. They can do some real cool things with their Quest I can't do with my PC setup. And this goes way beyond using it for just VRchat.
Same here. Almost every Friday I'm taking friends on tour around different not-seen worlds, but when making new instance of the world we are on purpose leaving visibility on 'public' - just to get some nice encounters with strangers (which we get). Unfortunately, some loud kids appear from time to time
I'm a pretty shy person in VR. When I jump in, I usually just hide in the Treehouse in the Shade in my custom avatar, and watch and listen. I'll talk if somebody asks me, but I just have a hard problem figuring out how to interact with people. At first, I dropped into Black Cat, and it was just too chaotic for me. Nightclubs that are nightclub-like, i can deal with. But a place like it... it's just too chaotic for me. Too many people talking at once, and it confuses and frustrates me. I love VR, and I like being able to watch people, but something in my brain, the same thing that makes it hard to make friends, makes the Black Cat feel more isolating and frightening.
Heya, I'm currently in a similar situation. I just got vrchat and I can't really bring myself to talk to anyone so I just tend to explore worlds on my own. Idk if u still play vrchat but if u got any tips on overcoming this problem I would appreciate it ;,)
@@VossieVoster Hi, I also have trouble getting myself to join conversations a lot of times, but I've found that having a skill, quirk, or unique avatar can help ease yourself in. I can draw, so I'll just sit down somewhere and draw anything, or draw other people's avatars, and people will come up to me and talk to me about it. This works with character impressions, singing, or just finding a really weird or fun avatar that people will probably want to comment on. Hope I was able to help! :)
As a frequent VRChat player I just automatically hide the kids and the trolls whenever I see them without giving them a chance. it makes life so much easier
Slippry slope. Many people do this its why the community is so hostile to new players and visitor users and quest users. To most people the defentition of a child or troll is ANYONE with *quest 2* above their name
@@housemouseshorts Yeah that's gonna bother me. I'm a minor, but i'm not like an obnoxious kid, i'm like 17. I got a quest 2 for christmas because it's the only thing i really could get, but i've been playing vrchat for a while on desktop.
@Alex Olivers like you see. I don't care if ppl only play on the quest 2 stand alone version if they are cool but I meant kids that I call squeakers when they talk and the trolls that just run up to you yelling racial shit and stuff get the automatic boot from me
The Black cat seems to have a fairly well thought name it seems. You take a risk of bad luck at times, but you still would want to pet the cat at times. So just like that, you take a risk of meeting those crazy ones, in order to step in and find good friends who make you feel warm and happy.
Sitting at a booth in Black Cat with SteamVR opening two windows so I can get work done is almost like working at a coffee shop with a bunch of chaos crazy people in real life, but the benefit of knowing that I'm not risking someone actually trying to take my laptop to throw at a cashier like what happened IRL a few years ago in Hollywood. Somehow an amazing environment to work from home in!
I just wanted to take a moment thank you for your work in showing us around the VR Worlds of VRChat and educating us in all things VR. We really both appreciate and enjoy everything you continue to do for the community!
There are so many VR games including VRChat that have divisive worlds/people. But it always makes my week to just meet a random person just chilling and enjoying life. Just being happy to be playing VR :)
I completly forgot about the days where it was so rare to see a VR user in VRC. Those were the days. That guy was right, we were all so envious of the gods that could afford it so rarely on haha
I feel it's important to mention the black cats open space layout compared to the pug. the pug had a lot more narrowed closed spaces which once more of the player base began to actually have VR it's a little overwhelming to all cram together body ontop of body. the black cat allowed for that comfortable distance.
I'm a Quest owner (not the Quest 2) and the atmosphere of the Black cat between when I got my Quest and after the Quest 2 is completely different. And pretty much as soon as the Quest 2 came out it became a toy similar to a gaming console. The problem with the Quest 2 wasn't just it's price point (it was also Facebook and the requirement of a Facebook account) but the fact that there was zero way for a parent to moderate the content their kids were exposed to. Unlike the TV, computer, handheld consoles, TV consoles, or even a phone you can't see what your kid is doing in VR, especially with a standalone headset. A parent might be able to see what games they are playing but they have no idea what their kid is actually doing (over the shoulder capability). Add to that and in VR most people don't know if a person is a kid until the kid speaks so there is no way use selective speech, you either have to treat everyone in earshot as a kid, or treat everyone in earshot as an adult. The complete lack of supervision is a serious problem and I've told parents. If you kid is younger than 15 don't get them a VR headset, or a smartphone. I originally bought a Quest so I could show clients 3D models in a way that wouldn't have me lugging a PC everywhere I go or forcing them to come to me. It was very much worth the investment and I made back said investment within a few days. VR is STILL an incredible tool but because it mimics real life and gives everyone an effective mask to hide behind it's difficult to effectively manage it, and just like we wouldn't leave kids unsupervised irl we really shouldn't be doing that in VR.
i have a quest 2 that i bought earlier this year, but i played vrchat on desktop for many years before that. with the quest 2 coming out the amount of kids definitely increased. i wish parents would pay more attention to what their kids are doing. vrchat is just a collection of virtual reality chatrooms (at its core) and when i was a kid there was no way someone under 13 was gonna be welcomed in one of those chatrooms that i played around with unless they allowed kids, but most were 13+ or 18+
I'm so glad I explored VRchat way beyond popular worlds like the Black Cat. Ide say my favorite thing to do in VRC is go to bi-weekly raves like Schism and Tube. I've met some really cool people in those. By the way, you and Thrills Christmas rave was a blast!
Black cat is like the Big City in VRChat. It has the most people, meaning you have the highest chance of meeting some really bad people. Before going to Black Cat, be sure to get ready to record, and report, and use a custom safety settings shield that prevents anyone's avatars from being shown with the exception of friends. It's incredibly dangeous.
that and if you are an avatar creator just forget using any avatars you made as pretty much every black cat instance will have at least one person (quest users now as they dont deal with eac) use a client to just instantly rip your avatar and upload it to a website for anyone to download
@@QuillDoodle well, with me, I don’t really care if people rip the stuff I made, because It’s just VRoid avatars that I edited in Blender to make them have blendshapes that give people the option to make them fat. It’s all just free work, so I don’t care. Free VRoid assets, free Blender degeneracy edits. I don’t gate keep avatars I made, or any of the public stuff I find.
@@dongvermine crashers can damage hardware if made in a specific way. They are typically used when the attacker is on a throw away PC, something they wouldn’t care about if it got destroyed, and like a suicide bomber, they change into the avatar that has a bad mesh, and everyone who has that avatar shown, including the creator will have their PC become unusable. Either that’s a true thing, or the guy who told me about it was lying about it the whole time. Honestly, I don’t know what to believe. It sounds far fetched, since if it was true, it would destroy the PC as soon as it loads into the Unity file viewer, or as soon as the edit is made in Blender or Maya.
@@beanmchocolate3900 @BeanMChocolate it's extremely hard to do physical damage to hardware, to the point it's probably easier attempting to enrage and annoy people into smashing their computers themselves
I agree the black cat can be a mess but this is where I meet my boyfriend we've meet irl and soon to be moving in with eachother so this place has special place in my heart ❤
Thank you for putting the time and effort into making this content! My wife and I are new to VR Chat and attend you Christmas party the other night and once we found our way around it was a blast! Looking forward to January’s event!
It's so weird to see how far this world has gone I actually met the creator of the world before it was published and got to be one of the first to step into it
It really is just the internet. If it's popular and free, it's going to attract the gambit of people. This morning I spent a few hours playing the open beta for Battlebits, a lowpoly FPS with 127v127 player servers, and fully open mic between teams. I witnessed everything from roleplay to blaring music to slurs to honor duels. and this game has actual objectives and people trying to shoot each other. And the formula was simple. It was free, so no bar to entry, and there were a lot of people in one place at one time.
I think vrchat has nice atmosphere to use anonymity to vent people's concerns, which make them to share the things which they couldn't if they met irl. I personally got a lot of good experience from this way.
When that woman said "That Crackhead Energy!" I felt that, it was that stuff, alongside one specific clip by someone in a edited unity chan model that made me go into VRChat over 3 years ago: "VRchat isn't just a game, it's an experience."
Well said, Phia! This stuff is much less impactful when it's just text on a screen, but way more real when it's someone literally saying those things to your face. Being called some kind of slur in text can get the blood boiling, but having someone literally pointing at you and saying it with their voice and 2 feet in front of you feels much more triggering, which people then relate to either one world or (sadly in some cases) VR Chat as a whole.
I met and spoke to the creator of the black cat and also the creator of around 7 of fallback character including the most known one, the brush and they're honestly one of the most humble and nicest people ever. The problem is a huge part of the community thinks crashing people and being loud and annoying is funny... and Black Cat being the most popular world on VRChat will of course attract those kinds of people, it will also attract all the fun and cool people that you'll soon after find on your friends list! As an experienced Black Cat dweller all you have to do is block everyone's avatars and enable them only after you talk to someone that seems chill.
When I got vr for christmas in 2020 and I was a bit younger, I used to love the black cat. I did yes hear a lot of things but that world did allow me to make friends at the beginning. I do not go their anymore but it sure helped me getting started with making virtual friends.
The Black Cat is where I would always start my VR misadventures. I met so many amazing, interesting, and funny people there. Comedyy shows, guitar players, mirror sitters playing Lofi and snuggling their VR bae, I love them all.
This is how i feel for the Great Pug, almost the same shit just its dropped off popularity. I keep going back to it knowing that its going to be a shit storm but i keep going back cause its where my social life started, the first place i faced my fears, first time i made friends on my own and the reason why i can call myself a somewhat socially confident person today!
I remember my first experience with vrchat was being in a black cat and it wasn't a good experience since I was immediately cussed out for being mute since at the time I was using it to help out with being less quiet in social circles and would be able to make new friends. I liked the aesthetic as it felt comfy and welcoming but I didn't really like the people who usually hanged out there and it got harder to find servers with nicer people but I'll never forget the first time being in there it was bad but oddly enjoyable!
I have to agree with you I started VR chat about two months on my PC since I don’t have a meta quest and I decided to just pick a world randomly and it just so happened to be the black cat my first experience with that world words everyone was usually chill but most of them roasted me because of using default avatars so not a bad experience also a lot of kids I hate that but I can get around that other than that the world can be a good place to go to when your bored just depends on what time you’re on
Ive always avoided the black cat but I just cant help myself from joining an instance from time tk time. Personally I just like to see the wacky stuffs happening there, and sometimes I just get into character with whatever avatar I use lol.
I really miss 2018 vrchat. I've been playing this game for almost 7 years now, and It had such a distinct atmosphere that can never be recreated. I fully believe this was due to the increase in vr headset availability, it both allowed people to participate in certain "acts" / erp, increasing the horniness of the game as well as inticing hundreds of thousands of kids to play the game. Vr headsets were such a rarity as mentioned in this video and most people focused on the creative side of vrchat much more than what it is now. I believe covid also had a massive impact on the game and changed the trajectory. The alcoholics also grew 10 fold in the game during covid and after the fact. Before, vrchat was all about funny memes, messing around, vrchat game worlds and friendships, now its turned into something almost unrecognisable.
Spooky has done and continues to do an amazing job providing and maintaining the Black Cat in VRChat. It's a core, central world in VRChat! ....bbuuuuuUUUuuuut, I agree that it isn't a good "first VRChat instance" to go. I think "No Time Two Talk" is probably one of the best locations to go if you're looking to "dip your toe in" finding friends in VRChat. After a bit of that, you can explore smaller-population instances that encourage smaller break-out groups and exploration. Audio Orbs, Astral Bounds, and Udon Bird Sanctuary are great examples. They have something to do or look at while you're making friends. Game worlds like Murder and Prison Escape also are a good medium. After that, eventually, you can go find some of the classic "crackhead energy" (agreed 100% btw) in a Black Cat instance :)
First I'm gonna say, I love the piano crab at the end, and cleaning my lenses with my shirt as taboo as it was at first has no because the norm. I did not expect to scroll down and see a video about the one place that gives me chills and kiss the thought of it. Last night I was talking about super weird places to fall asleep in on vrc. There are lots. You could rest your head deep within the backrooms, or head over to a public Black Cat public instance with 30 people and just plop down anywhere. Earmuff mode or mute is highly recommended xD, but enough of that. This map most of us all have history with. I would come here a lot early on and it's like being throw straight to the lions. You described it perfectly. Like rolling a dice. It is a place that has turned me away from even going to public maps. I've met some really cool people there and sometimes it takes being in th le lobby for more than an hour feeling it out before you start to get comfortable with the people their, but with so many different instances and even worlds to visit my patience runs thin and I leave. Many people that go there want to cause trouble. Soundboards, slurs, harassment. Red flags go up when I see a new user on desktop mode approaching. What will they say? Who knows. On vrchat you have the power to deal with the situation as you see fit. If someone is bothering you, you can turn down their volume, mute, hide an avatar, or block them flat out. I have even tried to talk to the rude/annoying people in the past who come up to me saying not so nice things. Engaging with them can be rather unpleasant but fun at times. I used to interupt the people who were being a pain in my butt what their top 3 ice cream flavors were followed up by top 3 pizza toppings. It really puts the power in your hands and can ease the situation & also make that person super confused. Kill them with kindness sort of vibe. I can go on talking about this place and memories I have but this message is decently thick as is. If you come to this map be prepared for anything. Maybe start a new public instance and let the flow trickle in slowly. It's almost Christmas so expect a slew of new users who need help. Be nice! I know its hard when we expect every new user to be a young trouble maker but I hope we can enlighten new users on how cool vr can be vs getting angry about it. But I still expect a whole new batch of fresh bullies ready to give people swirlys in the bathrooms of Black Cat. Ide also recommended a wallet with a clip - w -
The Black Cat holds some fond memories for me, especially since it was where I met my current group of friends. but it still remains the eyerolling land of children and crashing every 10 minutes.
I remember when I started going to the Black Cat since it was gaining steam and the black cat fell off. Plenty of weird nights but eventually I met my first real solid group of friends there, and pretty much every VR experience that came after was because of them. Also good to see Spooky getting some love for making the place!
I will say this I've been watching you for a long time and I'm not even a vr user but you're fun so today on Christmas I decided to say that it's a really interesting channel and I recommend it
when i first started playing vrchat about three years ago i didnt know what the black cat was, and i never joined it, my first world was a mha world, i soon joined the fnaf community and started exploring fnaf avatars....thats all of the story im gonna say until i get popular enough to be confident about telling my vrchat story fully
Ah the Black Cat, I remember when it used to be 'Hey lets see whats up with the great pug.' now its 'Hey lets see whats up with the black cat.' its always that its either you or your friend who always mentions during the vrchat play through 'Lets check out the black cat"
I remember that party. It was epic. Still sucks I lost my recording due to power outage due to where I live. Will def meet you at the next PHIA. Continue the good work.
When I first played VRChat, the first world I went to was black cat. Not only was it the most popular world at the time, but I had heard of it from other people so I had grown curious. My first black cat was better than lucky, I managed to meet my first friend in that world and wasn't called any racial slurs. Since that good first experience was left on me, it's always been my go to for a public world. I have met some terrible people on there, but I've also met a majority of my friends there as well. Going to the black cat, more good than bad memories can come to mind and it gives me a relaxing atmosphere, one that I know and have spent many hours in, kind of like my bedroom. Even if it does give me a relaxing and familiar atmosphere, something crazy and/or bizarre always happens. When it does, it gives me something to laugh about, or at least strike a conversation with someone else about it. Imagine someone was calling you racial slurs, normally someone would probably butt in and say something about it or something of the sort, vise versa as well. Many friends are made this way in the black cat, I've seen it happen way to many times.
the spaaace of the BC is essential too, the GP is cramped and claustrophobic with a full session, but you could fill a BC 4 times over and still have space to hide from the crowd if you are overstimmed
I just stay at the Great Pug. Yeah, it's not the finest world with many people bringing in big meaty avatars but I tend to find the chiller people there.
I use to go to Black Cat, though have always avoided it like the plague before and after EAC was added. It's both to do with the amount of kids in there, and the good amount of times it been targeted by crashers. Even when EAC was added crashers still attack it today. Have anxiety when it comes to new people, more so with kids.
I just got my Quest 2 for Christmas mostly because a ton of my Second Life friends are/have transitioned to VRChat. I’m actually hesitant to have my first experience solo lol, because of some of the “down” aspects of places like The Black Cat, but at the same time (minus a lot of kids) I realized that SL has those same aspects in public places. Granted VRC makes you spend a certain number of hours in public to upload avatars apparently… so guess I’ll stumble in there and see the madness and randomness eventually lol. Thanks so much for the video and advice. Really enjoyed it
Black cats are surreal to visit as a trusted user. It’s fun to visit and just watch the chaos. They’re definitely a different experience than most of vrchat
I like the Black Cat. I joined VRchat about five months ago, for both the chance to chill, and observe the chaos. And I can do plenty of both in the Black Cat. Many did and still do hate on the EAC. But it's a part of VRchat now, for better or worse. To me, I feel it was added a bit too soon. They should have setup what they have now, before taking such actions. And I feel the developers are quite aware of this more now, than when they first set it up. Live an learn. However, despite the fallout, and much over reacting by many to the EAC, I feel it may have helped rain-in a lot of the past chaos from before. I joined VRchat the day before EAC was put in. Played VRchat from 9 am to 10 pm. And I had ran into, no joke, about five people trying to crash the world I was in, as I hopped from world to world. I had not seen one person trying to crash a world, since EAC was put into place. So there is that to be said about it. To me, makes enjoying a place like the Black Cat, far more, knowing that most crashers who would crash the Black Cat for fun, have a harder time doing so, and so does not happen as often as it likely did. Now I can chill back enjoy the Black Cat with all of its other forms of chaos, without being booted from it, by some butthead. ^.^
The first time I full on dove into a vr headset and I got vrchat on the stand alone quest I went to the black cat, cause it was really the only place I could go without the full on limitations, however something that made it okay for me to go to the black cat for my first experience is that I knew what I was gonna get myself into, since I saw vrchat rise in popularity as vr became more popular cause you could experience it as if you were really there, and it's crazy to think it took me so long just to get a quest 2 since 2018 when the Uganda craze was happening, and it's crazy that 2018 was 5 years ago. Although I got my quest the summer of 2021 or 2020 can't remeber.
The Black Cat is a big part of why I initially wrote off VR Chat when I first got my Quest 1. It took a couple years before someone convinced me to give it another go in the PC version. Now I avoid the place like the plague. I'll occasionally pop into the Pug just because it is a good place to meet people, but only if A Warm Obscured is empty. That's as close as I'll ever get to the Black Cat again.
I've had a wild mix of experiences at the Black Cat. Long time ago, I used to spend my nights running around there with some mute friends translating their ASL for them. Met lots of cool people there, made lots of friends. Hell earlier this morning I was chillin' with random people there dancing to Christmas music. Biggest issue though is the children. I really wish VRC would do something about it, but it's likely they won't. Anyway, it was fun meeting you the other night at your event. Merry Christmas and Yippy Ki-yay!
I've been playing vrchat since the start of 2018. Alot has changed over the years and alot hasn't. I used to be a question and hated every second of it. Tip for new players: be prepared to either laugh or be disappointed when u join the black cat
Thanks for showing the Knoxlabs stuff, I've always wanted to clean my lenses but didn't wanna use a cloth that would just scratch my lenses more than my glasses would, it could be a birthday present since my birthday is January 5
I don't mind kids in vrchat, because no matter how much mental gymnastics you want to play those kids are having fun. Now of course there are always bad apples within a group but most of those kids are just trying to have fun, something that the usual grumpy self centered people that generally hang around there should learn from.
It's not about being self centered imo. People (or me at least) don't like having young kids around because you feel responsible for not teaching them things they shouldn't know. I censor myself more around young kids than I do around other adults and while it isn't a huge deal, it can make it harder to be genuine with people and have valuable conversations
@ChickentNug I mean sure you can say that but if you go into a public lobby you know what your signing up for, it is a public space after all. Like many others if public spaces aren't working out, go into a more private lobby and invite the people who you were trying to converse with.
Black Cat is actually my go to place for meeting people. I just look past the bad parts about it and embrace how diverce it actually is with all kinds of people and I see that as a good thing because who knows who your new friend will be.
being someone who couldn't afford VR for a long long, long time, even now having to have help just to experience it more.. people don't realize how bad of a living situation and/or family situation someone might be in for them, I'm personally glad they made it easier for more people to get to enjoy virtual reality, but they should make some kind of age verification control for VR itself or VRChat.
Off topic (kinda) but my first experience with the black cat is me and like 4ish friends started a war and we fought a boss while doing the griddy so my perception is pretty positive.
My first world in VRchat when I started was Midnight Rooftop, and I had a fair share of kids and well, trolls there, but I heard stories about the Cat, I been there myself but as a private instance, since it isn't a bad world, but you should definitely avoid most public versions of it
I’ve noticed that a huge portion of the PC population in VRC has disappeared. It made a lot of fun worlds become vacant and I miss seeing those worlds populated
Mods were never really allowed wholesome or not. They’ve added a lot of nice new features since to accommodate for it. Features I believe should’ve released first.
I went into the black cat as my first vrchat experience but I went in knowing it can be hit or miss with who you meet but you meet a lot of people so you're eventually gonna find people you vibe with.
i wish other countries had some place like the black cat, but for their native language. for exemple, here in brazil we have places like "Bar Do Zé" or "Cruzeiro Brasil" that some what have this energy as the black cat, but its not as near as it, although it still has the wow factor when someone with VR joins in. Also, its lighter on the computer/headset, since we tent to have laptops rather than desktops with dedicated GPUs
I like the term "virtual universe" more than "metaverse." It's descriptive and the name says exactly what it is.
agreed
True. "Metaverse" makes people imagine something bigger than it is.
It’s too long
Virtua-verse sounds really cool :D
@@ZZENWAY Meta verse sounds like some Fake Elitists wet dream..,
we're the world is at its peak.., but in reality is a Living nightmare
It also depends if your soft af and a cancel culture person.
This description applied to me back when i started playing vrchat in 2018 (august more specifically) and going to the great pug but during that time safety settings didn't exist yet so crashers were running mock but most of the time i didn't encounter that many crashers my self (lucky, yes) but it was still fun in the end and i managed to meet of course many people while befriending them 😊
it's problem with just living. when you leave your home, it can be either be good day or bad day
The fact you even HAVE to block people should tell you something. VRC is dog shit

I came to the comment section for this comment.
I remember the cat when it started becoming popular. It was basically just a quest compatible pug at the time. It was a small world for a while because for the first year the quest existed, quest users were few and far between. Now the pug is basically just a PC only black cat.
I miss the pug man
@@abusementpark153 I mean... come on in, it's still pretty popular and active. Probably the last very popular PC only world
I feel like the pug dodged a bullet for the vibes it's trying to maintain by actively choosing not to implement quest compatibility, but for me, it's kind of sad that the fact kids can buy the quest 2 or were gifted a quest 2 and it's the only vr platform I can afford and most of my vrchat friends are pcvr users and here I am barred from hanging out the virtual spaces they go to. I don't go to vrchat these days as much as I used to mostly because of that.
I've been to a few recent Pug instances that have been really good. It really depends.
I mean, the pug *was* quest compatible in the *very* beginning :P
You are awesome!! Thanks so much for helping with the video!! (Also Rebel does sick VRChat interviews on Twitch)
yayyy pog rebel cameo
Can confirm, rebel knows their stuff. I gotta try that world out!
my anxiety is going haywire just thinking about a 1v1 convo lmfao my awkwardness extends to vr i cant help it
@@SgtMorningWood69 SAME, i literally just tried it out but i have nothing to converse with 😭
As a VRChat player myself, I can say this hits right on the point. The Black Cat is just one of those that's hard to explain, you kind of just have to experience it yourself.
there's currently these extremists hanging around black cat guilt tripping people into believing their bs.
Just exploring is fun!
Same here. Almost every Friday I'm taking friends on tour around different not-seen worlds, but when making new instance of the world we are on purpose leaving visibility on 'public' - just to get some nice encounters with strangers (which we get). Unfortunately, some loud kids appear from time to time
@@Imegirin Fun thing about the loud kids is, you get to play a little side game of, how fast can I block them, whenever one or more shows up. ^.^
when even other kids are mad at kids, that't a red flag to me
I'm a pretty shy person in VR.
You're the reason that people like me got stuck with annoying assholes and gave up on meeting new people.
I approach as I always do in internet forums and IRCs: shields raised and environment suit powered on.
@Aereto go in with the "hands are rated e for everyone" mentality
Sitting at a booth in Black Cat with SteamVR opening two windows so I can get work done is almost like working at a coffee shop with a bunch of chaos crazy people in real life, but the benefit of knowing that I'm not risking someone actually trying to take my laptop to throw at a cashier like what happened IRL a few years ago in Hollywood. Somehow an amazing environment to work from home in!
Love that low chord the piano crab did. They really nailed it.
Incredibly dangerous LOL
As chaotic as The Black Cat can be, along with other worlds, those occasional really good instances make the experience worth it.

Just remember that a beautiful lotus flower can bloom in mud. This pretty much sounds like the black cat to me, specifically making friends there.
bruh "I'm here for the crackhead energy" is a fuckin mood I swear
I think vrchat has nice atmosphere to use anonymity to vent people's concerns, which make them to share the things which they couldn't if they met irl. I personally got a lot of good experience from this way.
why did I want to cry watching this? Very well spoken I felt hella moved :)
The Black Cat is the Times Square of VRChat.
mad props for the mystery dungeon browser bg
When that woman said "That Crackhead Energy!" I felt that, it was that stuff, alongside one specific clip by someone in a edited unity chan model that made me go into VRChat over 3 years ago:
"VRchat isn't just a game, it's an experience."
Well said, Phia! This stuff is much less impactful when it's just text on a screen, but way more real when it's someone literally saying those things to your face.
Being called some kind of slur in text can get the blood boiling, but having someone literally pointing at you and saying it with their voice and 2 feet in front of you feels much more triggering, which people then relate to either one world or (sadly in some cases) VR Chat as a whole.
you are a legend i love each of your videos about vrchat
Ahhh, Yes, The Black Cat. I love going there. You can get absolute chaos or meet the coolest people.
The Black Cat is where I would always start my VR misadventures. I met so many amazing, interesting, and funny people there. Comedyy shows, guitar players, mirror sitters playing Lofi and snuggling their VR bae, I love them all.

the Piano Crab made my day XD
This channel still blows my mind! Not only are the observations truly insightful, but Phia's avatar is pretty close to Phia IRL!
I have to agree with you I started VR chat about two months on my PC since I don’t have a meta quest and I decided to just pick a world randomly and it just so happened to be the black cat my first experience with that world words everyone was usually chill but most of them roasted me because of using default avatars so not a bad experience also a lot of kids I hate that but I can get around that other than that the world can be a good place to go to when your bored just depends on what time you’re on
Nah Bruh Rec Rooms RecCenter is absolute chaos💀
Blackcat is full of endless entertainment. My favourite world for content and fun!
the great pug is where the real entertainment lies in.
VRC really needs to do something about the problem with kids and trolls
It's gotten so out of hand I don't even know how to fix it

@@Max-eu9fp oh yeah the random crashing avatars are so based
Spooky has done and continues to do an amazing job providing and maintaining the Black Cat in VRChat.
Ide also recommended a wallet with a clip - w -
I love the black cat!
I know that it's not for everyone but it's the best way to experience all the different things vrchat has to offer in 10 minutes

I record in the black cat. It's just nuts what goes on in there... like actually crazy some of the things I've had to hear
Wow I found this channel through the groups feature in vrchat and its good content really well done
I find it funny that my husband and I met in black cat and we are now having our first child…
when i first started playing vrchat about three years ago i didnt know what the black cat was, and i never joined it, my first world was a mha world, i soon joined the fnaf community and started exploring fnaf avatars....thats all of the story im gonna say until i get popular enough to be confident about telling my vrchat story fully
The black cat also got ported to ChilloutVR but a fork of it called the Purple Fox is much more popular there.
Thing about the squeakers is that we were those squeakers in halo matchmaking and roaming second life or even active worlds.
Many friends are made this way in the black cat, I've seen it happen way to many times.
recently bought a quest 2 to slowly getting more and more into vr. i can see myself just fully getting into it over the years
the spaaace of the BC is essential too, the GP is cramped and claustrophobic with a full session, but you could fill a BC 4 times over and still have space to hide from the crowd if you are overstimmed
I love it there
I met my best friend in the black cat a little over a year ago, on my first day on vrc. We've been through hell and back but we still got each other.
Thats nice. Tell me your a soft twtiter cancel culture assholle without telling me.
Your videos really do remind me why I keep coming back to VR :)) Thanks
(This is my comment for the algorithm)
"I'm here for the crackhead energy" that is so spectacularly spot-on.
I may be getting VRchat soon so your videos are really helpful, thanks!
I've been playing vrchat since the start of 2018. Alot has changed over the years and alot hasn't. I used to be a question and hated every second of it. Tip for new players: be prepared to either laugh or be disappointed when u join the black cat
Black cat is a great world for the new players it’s got a pretty random mix of every type of player and basically shows new players what to expect
Loved your channel since first stumbling upon it. Great host, great videos, great presentation al the way.
This video deserves more likes! Black Cat has been iconic since I joined.
That last scene with the crab and piano voice reminds me of the book Project Hail Mary.
being someone who couldn't afford VR for a long long, long time, even now having to have help just to experience it more.. people don't realize how bad of a living situation and/or family situation someone might be in for them, I'm personally glad they made it easier for more people to get to enjoy virtual reality, but they should make some kind of age verification control for VR itself or VRChat.
me personally i love the black cat because thats where i get the most of my content
I've never had "my night ruined" by joining an instance, ever. It is a videogame and you can block people or leave the instance.
Off topic (kinda) but my first experience with the black cat is me and like 4ish friends started a war and we fought a boss while doing the griddy so my perception is pretty positive.
My first world in VRchat when I started was Midnight Rooftop, and I had a fair share of kids and well, trolls there, but I heard stories about the Cat, I been there myself but as a private instance, since it isn't a bad world, but you should definitely avoid most public versions of it
Nah you should grow a spine and stop being a triggered little pansy.
I still have PTSD of walking into the bathroom of the Black Cat..
I’ve noticed that a huge portion of the PC population in VRC has disappeared. It made a lot of fun worlds become vacant and I miss seeing those worlds populated
Blame VRChat killing the wholesome modding community AND with EAC makes an already hard to run game for people even harder.
I stopped playing VRChat when they nuked mods
@@The_Speak_EZ I mean I didn’t like the EAC release either but I still play because I have hundreds of friends on there
Mods were never really allowed wholesome or not.
