The way Criss plays the main riff clean at the start brings about a very cold, dark, murky and foreboding atmosphere and creates a tension you can feel right before it breaks into absolute metallic rage with one of the heaviest and most evil riffs ever created in heavy metal. Few guitarists are so unsurpassed in delivering emotion through a guitar as Criss was.
For the last two weeks I have been ripping this one just like that after revisiting the live recording on Cleveland that I SO glad they did back then. Fcking Criss Oliva was a treasure of power guitar. In 85 this was the tune that made me an instant Savatage junkie
I feel fortunate that I was able to see Criss Oliva twice. In Aug of 90 I bought Jon drinks BEFORE the show, he literally was out on the floor of the Ballard Firehouse standing and drinking with us like we knew each other, it was brutally entertaining and Jon was genuinely funny in person. Love these guys and wish that the brothers were still giving us music
@@RScott413 I never met Criss unfortunately but I met the other guys in 2001, especially Chris Caffery and Johnny Lee Middleton who talked to me. Savatage were so down to Earth and really appreciated their fans. I hear Criss was a very down to Earth and friendly guy, no rock star ego whatsoever. His wife never recovered from his passing. Neither have we.
Criss Oliva would make my "Top 5 people I wish I could hang with" list. Especially after having Long IS iced teas with Jon before a show in Seattle August of 1990. Jon stood out on the FLOOR with us and drank FOUR of them BEFORE the show. LOL. He was like totally chilled and just "hey, how's it going?"
I happen to have seen them in Anaheim, CA. Still have not found another Band in The same League as Savatage just A very Rare Talent that only comes around once in A Life Time.R.I.P Cris Olivia
Where was it? I caught them a few times at Lamours and Studio one... I got to meet and bullshit with Criss after a Lamours show...I asked him for a pick, he gave me the regs he had in his pocket. He told me his guitar tech had the stainless steel looking ones because they cost a lot more..RIP ONE OF THE GREATEST
I think, Criss wass the very fist heavy metal guitar player, who started to use hardly lower and dropped tunings. I can't remember anyone else at that time who played that eay. Almost always it was standard tuning or half tone lower tuning.
Most underrated metal band of all time
Savatage is fuckin amazing!!! My favorite Metal band!!🤘🤘🤘🤘😎😎😎🤘🤘😁👍👍

I saw them 28 times and worked for the band 4 5 years
That riff though....love Savatage and Mr. Chris Oliva !! R.i.p.
I don't know what happened to the camera work but the band sounds pretty tight and Criss's guitar work is spot on!

This is the Music the World is Missing and all those who don't know what really Music is Sad But True.😮
Does no one care to film the LEAD GUITARIST WHEN HE'S DOING HIS SOLO?????
Yeah, that was shameful.
agree... I want to slap that camera man.
Frustrating fact of almost all Savatage footage.
Hey Cris your one Very Unique Speical Talent that does Still Shine On.R.I.P missed but not forgotten.

Trademark Criss riff. The fluidity is unmatched, his melodies are always there
Savatage Fan and saddened by the Music Industry for Not give Them The Red Carpet because they deserved it.
the intro riff is actually the outro riff of Sirens
What the hell happened to the guitar solo?!?!?
The studio
"Criss is going to rip into a solo, I wonder what the bassist is up to?"
