I have a child who doesn’t like coloring either. He prefers to draw what he wants while he listens. ✏️ But i love that you bound those pages for each of your kids!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I just received this curriculum and was a little overwhelmed with how to organize all of it. I love the idea of breaking apart the student book into 2 books, and will be doing this as well! Thanks again.
This was really helpful! I have been watching your videos for a while and am always SO grateful for the organization/prep ideas you have! You have been a lifesaver!!
I really appreciate this video and all the ways you utilize this curriculum! I love Story of the World and am currently looking to organize it in preparation for next year. You gave great tips that I hadn’t even thought of and am looking forward to implementing! 🙌🏼
Thank you for sharing! I've been strongly considering this curriculum for our homeschooling journey next school year and this video has helped me better grasp how it could work for us.☺️
I love the idea to create your own personalized coloring books to correspond with each lesson! I don't use SOTW, but I think I could still use that idea...
I found it overwhelming at first but now I do one or two activities and i use the review quesions for an activity sheet. Super easy. Also you can spend a full 2-3 weeks on one chapter since there is enough info. The kids really learn a lot by reiterating the same info for a few days / weeks
I spent the extra money and bought the pdf download of the student pages. I print it that day depending on who wants to participate. Somedays my 3 and 4 year old want to sit, listen and color with my big kids but somedays they don't.
We finished all four books so we are not currently using them anymore but yes we used them all together. The last book is more intense (bc it covers all of the wars) we used it with our whole family with no issue but some sensitive children may struggle with the content so you may want to edit or pre read.
Do you think these would work (specifically volume 1 & 2) for an 8th grader? We’re going into our 2nd year of homeschooling & I’d like to make sure she has a good foundation before we start the high school years. It’s hard to know how much she retained in public school… I was thinking we could probably cover both volumes this year since she’s older?
So dumb question. Did you have to tear the pages out and then take it to Office Depot? Or did they separate it for you? Awesome video. Lots of great info!!
The personal mp3 player is such a great idea. We have lots of memory work from our Classical Co-op but I don't have many other audio things. What else do y'all keep on the player for kids? Thanks so much. You're concise and share useful info!
So we use Story of the world, Apologia, and IEW's Spelling all of which have audio components that I can put on the device. I also will put audio books on them or songs that will help with memorizing facts like scripture memory, math facts, etc.
@@LifeintheMundane scripture! Duh. I could add the bible. I've been so hesitant because I don't want him on a screen all day or connected to the internet.
@@juliequates9529 I understand that. That is what I like about the MP3 player is that it is not connected online and they can only listen to what I put on and that's been a big relief.
I have an oddly specific question about the way you had it bound.. I just got my copy of the activity book and would like to get it bound the way you did. I notice the student pages in the second half of the book are perforated. Did this cause any issues? Did they bind it all the way over as far as it could go or did they bind on the right side of the perforation? Not sure if I'm making sense or not.. just thinking about how I would be using it with my printer & copier and if it would be better for me to just take out the perforated sheets myself and keep that half of the book loose (which sounds annoying organization wise but wondering if it would work better for printer without cutting part of the page off in the copying if they bind it too close to top of page). Sorry if that's too confusing of a question.. I've never had anything spiral bound before
I just looked at my copy and it looks like they took out the perforated pages and bound it from there. I am not a 100% sure since I just handed it over but they are definitely not perforated anymore.
How do you break up the book to be able to have staples make copies? I'm such an analyzer and probably over thinking it. I have a kindergartener I'm preparing to have use this. Is the activity book clearly broken up? Would it be easy to copy at home? Thank you anyone that helps answer these questions!
Yes you can copy at home. I buy the pdf of the coloring book so I can just print copies instead of photocopying. As far as the activity book I just brought it in and they cut off the spine to spiral bind it.
Thank you for your video. I am clicking on the link you provided to order books and won’t let me access it. Is there another way I can access to purchase the book series? Thank you for your time.
Does this work? - You can purchase Story of the World here - Volume 1 amzn.to/3rXx4L8 - Volume 2 amzn.to/3b8YkAx - Volume 3 amzn.to/3pQeDWY - Volume 4 amzn.to/3pSgBWP

Are the the discounts are specific to HSLDA members or is that a convenientway to show you homeschool? In Wisconsin, the state homeschool association tends to be more useful so I think a lot of people join that instead of HSLDA.
Did you add any other readers for your 6 grader besides the encyclopedia that the book is recommended if so, what books did you use. 🤔 I having trouble making a list of book for my 7th grade and in which order he needs to read it... he is using volume 1. How long do you kids spend in a book?
We go through one book each year as a family. We use the book list in the activity guide for additional book recommendations but I have also found some great readers lists and additional resources here www.learningmama.com/guide-to-using-story-of-the-world-homeschool/
It’s completely up to you. I’m different season we have read different amounts. Just do what you can and if there of something of particular interest to your kids feel free to jump in deeper.
Hi! So I do like the story of the world. But! I was wondering about maybe trying to set it up in a different way and seeing that you have all the volumes maybe you could tell me if you think it could work? Lol I was wanting to take a section from each era to do in one year. I know it’s one era per year so could I just divide it into 4 units and do part of an era each year for four years? Idk It just seems like it will be difficult for us to stay interested in the same era for a whole year. Thank you if you can respond
So I am not sure how well that would work. But one idea would be to just use the books as a read aloud and not do all the extra activities. If you did that you could get through two books in a year which would keep things moving. I will also say because it is world history you change up topics quite a bit because you're taking a look at what is going on in all different countries which keeps it from getting stale.
I wish mine liked the audio. They think the guy is boring. I’m thinking about recording myself reading it. Glad I tried the sample audio before buying it
Hello! I appreciate your helpful advice! Thank you for your content. Where can I find the MP3 player mentioned? The link in this video no longer works.
This is from the Well Trained Mind Website " The Story of the World series is intended for children in grades 1-4, but is often used by older students: Volume One is written primarily for grades 1-4; Volume Two for grades 2-5; Volume Three for grade 3-6; Volume Four for grades 4-8. The maps and many of the activities in this book are also appropriate for children in grades 4-8. To use The Story of the World as the center of a multilevel history program, have your older child independently do the following: Read The Story of the World; follow this with the appropriate pages from the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia; place all important dates on a timeline; do additional reading on his or her own level. Optional: Your student can answer the Review Questions in writing, instead of orally. You can instruct the student to write out their answers on loose-leaf paper, you can type up the Review Questions yourself and include space for their answers, or you can purchase our Written Comprehension Responses where the Review Questions are already typed for you with plenty of lined space provided for your student’s response! Hi Katie, just wondering what made you switch from Story of the World to Bibioplan?
We completed Story of the world and had older kids and decided to move to Biblioplan because of the fact it goes all the way to highschool

Question
1. Is Volume 1 enough for an entire school year?
2. The CDS I have in volume 1 don’t start until chapter 7 am I missing one?
1. Yes
2. Yes I believe you are missing one it should say on the cd disc 1, disc 2, etc.
How much did it cost to get it split and bound please?
It was a couple of years ago so I don’t fully remember but I do know it was not over $10 I want to say it was between $5-$7
