  • It doesn't take a long-time viewer to understand my passions for Orchids! I love New England's dozens of native terrestrial Orchids and their associated habitats. Here, we find ourselves sea-side in Maine, looking at a delightful coastal fen and one of the last refuges for Arethusa bulbosa the "Dragon's Mouth." Two other, more familiar species are here as well Calopogon tuberosus, the "Tuberous Grasspink" and Pogonia ophioglossoides, the "Rose Pogonia" as well as numerous other fascinating inhabitants of this type of community!
    Plants of interest:
Alnus incana - gray alder = Betulaceae

    Drosera rotundifolia - round-leaved sundew - Droseraceae
    Lyonia ligustrina - He-huckleberry - Ericaceae
Comandra umbellata - bastard toadflax - Santalaceae
Aronia melanocarpa - black chokeberry - Rosaceae
