    I grew up in the area (Anniston) and spent many enjoyable days hunting, fishing, hiking and camping in and around the State Park. (Talladega National Forest, and Chocoloca WMA, Lake Chinnabee). My wife and my favorite Sunday “cheap” date was to ride my motorcycle to Tallasse for a buffet lunch and then ride to Cheaha Mountain and enjoy the summer mountain breeze. Followed by a sunset ride back to Auburn University and back to the grind. We still occasionally get a box of fried chicken and fixings for an afternoon picnic. Your video has prompted us to take our RV up for a week now that we’re both retired.

    Thanks for the informative video. We are in site 9 upper campground this weekend.
    This campground was renovated right before covid. Much more level now and newer bathrooms.
    Oak Mountain State Park campground renovated this year. 2024. We toured it this weekend. Very nice. Also in Alabama. And Alabama’s largest park, almost 12,000 acres just 20 minutes south of Birmingham.

      Hey Clay.
      You're welcome, Clay!
      We sure enjoyed Cheaha, they did a very nice good with the renovations. Angel and I have talked about Oak Mountain, maybe 2025 we'll make a trip there especially since its a little closer to us.🙂
      Thanks, Clay, for watching our video and reminding us about Oak Mountain

    This is in my backyard. Broke in my Retro RV there 5 years ago. Love it there. My grandson was amazed at the number of deer - who, by the way, were unfazed by our presence.

      Lucky you for being so close, we really enjoyed it there. We hope to visit again in the warmer months. We saw a few deer along the drive to the waterfall but not the park.☺
      Thank you so much Kathy for watching our video.

    Great video of the park. ....But I miss the old upper rv Campground before they modernized all the site's. You mentioned how you liked the big rocks placed at some site's. Well, that's exactly what I miss because almost all the sites had a very secluded feel with big rocks that looked natural.
    Like you were camping in an area in a forest. The bath house was old stone building like the tower and lodge. As a Alabama boy just 1-1/2 hours away it was and still our mtn. get away. The old shot gun house across the road from the store was the store and check in for the park. I believe it's now and still a laundry house now.

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Jeff. I agree, we like the campgrounds that have that natural feel to them. It was so cold during our stay we weren't able to enjoy it as much as we would have liked to. The good think is, we can go back :)
      Lucky you, to be able to access such a nice campground (and hiking) within an hour and a half.
      Thanks for your comment Jeff! And, thanks for watching our vide too.

    Enjoy following you as you travel around,I've been going to Cheaha all my life,l live below the Mountain,if you come back try the lower Campground, that's our favorite,the upper is nice too no doubt,we like walking to the lake to swim ,sit at the lake different times of the day,fishing is fun there also.The wind is not bad at the bottom like it is up on top.

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robert
      We plan to go to the lower loop soon. Can we assume fall is as nice as we think?? We were thinking about a fall trip for the changing of the leaves. There are a lot of trails around the area we would like to hike, doing that in fall seems like a good idea.
      (I'll bring my fishing pole for dem sac-a-lait 😁)
      Thanks Robert for following along with us and thanks for the input on the lower campground.😃

      We'll make another trip in the fall for sure, maybe the lower loop thou, I want to fish that pond. Sites 63-73, thanks for the heads up. On our last trip we couldn't drive through the lower loop at all so I would have never known.
      Its a nice campground with a lot to do. Thanks again Robert for your info on the sites, we're looking forward to checking them out.😀

      I live just over an hour away, which made an easy daytrip for me to take my paddleboard out on this lake for a few hours..was pracically empty of people; no problem.
      It's cool to SUP at the highest lake in the state; Alabama has awesome rivers that flow to the Gulf.
      And yes, that hotel pool is fabulous at night. We were there on *honeymoon* in 1988..
      The Restaurant there is *wonderful!*

      Hey Ted and Tina
      If you haven't been, you're going to enjoy Cheaha State Park. Its one of our favorites. Site 23 is a nice sight too. I would strongly suggest the water fall we mention in the video, it is so worth the short hike.
      Cameras... We use an OSMO Pocket / OSMO Action for video and sometimes just our cell phones for still photos. Sometimes I set up my Canon 6D on a tripod for scenic shots.
      Thank yall so much for watching and subscribing.
      Enjoy your trip.

    Got a question, how cold is too cold to camp? Where do you draw the line?

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Thomas
      Our line is being able to "safely" travel and camp. We've enjoyed camping in freezing cold as well as hot and humid. We prefer camping in the cooler months. Just being cold outside isn't a big deal, its about being able to get there and back safely. Of course we will cancel a trip if we know the weather is going to be bad. I guess if it was -10 degrees with a 20mph wind we might stay home. Maybe😄😁
      Thanks for the question and thanks for continuing to watch our videos Thomas, we really appreciate it.
