those gold balls are called the ballon d'Or award which is awarded to best player in the world. Messi has 5, C. Ronaldo has 4. Also messi has never won a World Cup with Argentina, he made the finals but came short to Germany in 2014.

The Ballon Do'r has been running since the days of Cruyff, Platini & Van Basten who all won 3 Ballon Do'rs. The FIFA BEST award is a new award that only been around for 18 months or so. Only player who won that is CR7 because it just started. All the other legends in the game won the Ballon Do'r (Golden Ball). CR7 has 4, but he may soon win his 5th but only because Real Madrid was the standout team in Europe. Individually he isn't top 2 in the world right now. But Marketing sometimes, is needed to keep yourself relevant in football nowadays.
