I played bass for a band called Malicious Hate that played with Xenomorph at International Metalfest 1995 in Knoxville. I remember Joe could barely stand and Sandy (Metal Mom, promoter) was crying because he was so frail, but he was up there doing his best. He passed not too long after that.

I’ve probably recommended them before but I’ll do it again, infant slug, especially on their ep ‘the mind sung red’ is phenomenal, sort of a mix of autopsy and Infester, with a real catchy sludge metal kick
You need to check out gotsu totsu kotsu they are one of the best death metal bands to come out of Japan. Their sound is so unique and addictive I swear i can't get enough of their roaring vocals and hypnotic bass
1. At the Gates - The Red in the Sky Is Ours (Alf Svensson is eternal) 2. Immolation - Here in After (for the longest time would have been 'Close to a World Below') 3. When it comes to emotive outpouring through elite riffage for Cenotaph, The Chasm & Shub Niggurath, Julio Viterbo might genuinely be the prime example of an unsung hero among guitarists in all of death metal. Also neat to see a top death metal albums list without Death for once. (apologies in advance for the spam, seems that the previous comment got intercepted by censor bots for no sane reason)

I'm new to this death metal stuff and my proper introduction recently was Left Hand Path by Entombed. I'm not gonna lie, i finally got into it just now after hearing it the fifth time or whatever. To be honest, i wasnt into it because of how samey it is and also those guitars being a lil too distorted for my tastes. Now i don't mind it and i understood it once i listened to Reign In Blood back to back with that album (even though its not death metal but you know) and those two records are my favorite in metal music in general so far. If anyone sees this comment, what's your introduction to death metal? I'm curious to know.
Not sure if I can give super concrete rankings, but here are some of my favorites in vague order. Top 2 are definitive: 1.) Edge of Sanity - Crimson 2.) Death - Symbolic •Gorguts - Obscura •Dragged Into Sunlight - Hatred For Mankind •Immolation - Close to a World Below •Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal •Gorguts - From Wisdom to Hate •Esoteric - The Maniacal Vale •Death - Human •Rippikoulu - Musta Seremonia •Dusk - …Majestic Thou in Ruin •Gorguts - The Erosion of Sanity •Dismember - …Like an Ever-Flowing Stream •Death - Individual Thought Patterns •Ahab - Call of the Wretched Sea

@@SamuelBlackMetalRider well tbf, I was including other dm variants too, like tech death (Atheist, Cynic, Death) and death/thrash (Demolition Hammer). My taste in death metal is probably too narrow to include 25 different “pure” dm bands, so there woulda been a lot more Immolation, Morbid Angel, and Suffocation represented lol.
Intestine Baalism are really cool and flashy but can sound a bit poppy at times, kind of like an angrier grittier version of Children of Boodom. Cool guitars, great production but too happy melody at times
Like Atheist, Death also incorporated similar elements of jazz on their last three albums, however, it was a lot more subtle in execution. I love Atheist but some times the jazz elements can jump out way too flamboyantly for my liking.
Destroy the opposition is my favourite DF album. I agree with Atheist, however Piece of time is equally as good. Altars is massive, and Blessed are the sick is just as good ( weird how they went downhill when Brunelle left ).Autopsy I actually think Mental Funeral is better. Amorphis a stone cold classic, and I would pick None so vile for the best Cryptopsy. Lykathea Aflame is one hell of a record, a cross between Nile and Orphaned Land - on speed. My no 1 death metal album of all time is and always has been for over 30 years - Carcass Necroticism

22. Deicide - Once Upon The Cross
23. Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise
24. Sinister - Diabolical Summoning
25. Miasma - Changes
That infester album is by far the most depressing death metal album I've ever heard. So much self-hatred from that.
i love your vids man always good to see new bands to listen to
Sick list, subbed.
Love your videos buddy
Anata - The Conductor's Departure would definitely be in my top 25, maybe even top 10.
23:21 "demons listening to it in their free time" made me picture a demon getting home after working a 9 to 5 and searching for that album in his record collection
Thankyou for doing this ,that album that you recommended by The Chasm listened to it and I absolutely fucking love it thanks man I'm absolutely hooked to this as soon as I heard the album I loved it ,its definitely got a lot of atmosphere musicianship is incredible ,you truly are amazing when recommending music Wyattxhim :)
I didnt include Melodic Death bands, because it differs so much from regular Death Metal and the oldschool bands are more important so I just took these:

24. Suffocation - Pierced From Within (1995)
23 .Deicide - Deicide (1990)
22. Gorefest - False (1992)
21.Demilich - Nespithe (1993)
20. Massacre - From Beyond (1991)
19. Entombed - Left Hand Path (1990)
18. Entombed - Clandestine (1992)
17. Amorphis - The Karelian Isthmus (1992)
16.Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes (1992)
15. Morbid Angel - Covenant (1993)
14. Morbid Angel - Blessed Are the Sick (1991)

2. Pestilence - Consuming Impulse (1989)
1. Death - Leprosy (1988)
This list fucking rips Man 🤟🏽
Thank you
Spiritual healing is my favorite death album.
necrocracy was one of the first death metal CDs I ever bought, I always thought that that album was way better than any of their previous more goregrind sounding stuff
Dyscarnate, first listen.... MY GOD it's perfect thank you
Awesome video 🤘
for me, its probably MOGARI from ICDD, imo the most underrated death metal band, specifically out of Japan at least. Rib;y bas this vocal style which is like a blend of the older and newer vocal styles in death metal which I love
Icdd is absolutely goated
The DIS set at MDF will be absolutely inhumane. I'll see you there.
I love The Chasm, several amazing albums:))
I saw Dyscarnate open for Hatebreed many years ago. Awesome band ❤ You can not talk to much about Dragged into sunlight, keep talking 🤘
I love that Lathe of Heaven lp in the back ground
Pleaseee, I need a thrash version of this from you
Do your top 25 snacks and soft drinks
1. At the Gates - The Red in the Sky Is Ours (Alf Svensson is eternal)
2. Immolation - Here in After (for the longest time would have been 'Close to a World Below')
3. Gorguts - Obscura (could potentialy chance in the near future to 'The Erosion of Sanity'; Rest In Peace Steeve Hurdle)
4. Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness (In perpetual rotation with Blessed Are the Sick & Formulas Fatal to the Flesh)
5. The Chasm - ̶G̶a̶t̶e̶w̶a̶y̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶A̶n̶t̶i̶s̶p̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ Procession to the Infraworld
6. Atrocity - Todessehnsucht
7. Cenotaph - Riding Our Black Oceans (competing with the shamefully overlooked 'Epic Rites: 9 Epic Tales & Death Rites')
8. Sentenced - North From Here
9. Suffocation - Pierced From Within
10. Necrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence
11. diSEMBOWELMENT - Transcendence Into the Peripheral
12. Incantation - Diabolical Conquest
13. Iniquity - Serenadium OR Anata - The Infernal Depths of Hatred
Respect for the addition of Blod-Draum (Sui Generis), Infester (musical vitriol), Intenstine Baalism (oddly invigorating) & Shub Niggurath (Julio Viterbo is eternal) in your own list. When it comes to emotive outpouring through elite riffage for Cenotaph, The Chasm & Shub Niggurath, Julio Viterbo might genuinely be the prime example of an unsung hero among guitarists in all of death metal.
Also neat to see a top death metal albums list without Death for once.
(apologies in advance for the spam, seems that the previous comment got intercepted by censor bots for no sane reason)
here in after so damn good
The red in the sky is truly amazing
Kick ass choices
Great list, love to see Iniquity get the praise they deserve!
Surprised not to see Onward to Golgotha/Mortal Throne of Nazarene by Incantation not on here with the references to all of the OSDM revival bands
Dyscarnate needs to make another album
7:17
Funny enough, StarGazer actually did a split with Arghoslent
Krisiun's "Conquerors of Armageddon" could have made the list.
They are verrrrry underrated imo
Invokator - Exersion Demise is hell overlooked imo also.
Intestine baalism, great pick. Such an underrated band
Cheers from UBRUXUM. \m/
I'd really like to see a redo of your black metal list. If you've changed it at all.
Indeed far better list than your previous one. Soon you will be ready to see the true face of death metal!
Arghoslent has dropped from the 3rd to the 19th place. That's very bad.
Open Face Surgery is my favorite song from that album too 🤘
I've always like defenstration just slightly more
@@andrewwaugh2287 that's a close 2nd for me. I'll never forget the first time I listened to it. I had to take a double take with that intro lol.
Very cool! New EVIL INCARNATE- LUCIFERS CROWN Album is out too.
Have you heard Crimson Massacre - The Luster of Pandemonium? Crazy chaotic, borderline incomprehensible ADHD tech death. Somewhat similar to StarGazer, only way more unhinged (and without all those tasty basslines)
Highly recommend Corpsessed - Beyond Abysmal Thresholds (the rerecorded/remastered release), one of the best death metal albums of the 2010s.
🤘
Great list! I like portal
Some good choices in your selection BUT no Death, no Entombed, no Deicide, no Obituary, no Both Thrower, no Suffocation album !?!?
Nope 😎

I have got another one for technical Death Metal.
best death metal song is 'secret chiefs 3 - exterminating angel'. perfect balance of polished/dirty production, truly haunting vocals, nice blend of avant garde and all out blistering. masterpiece. saw secret chiefs 3 at the appropriately strangely named venue 'baba yaga's hut' in london and they opened with this black metal meets church opus that blew me away
So glad Infester get some props! One of the best albums ever released by them!
The Chasm is very good.
4:53 NEBRASKA MENTIONED (indirectly)
Hey man I LOVE your Channel,what s your job?Don t get wrong me please,I m really surprised about your extreme metal culture,especially in times I think you didn t live and you are so informed about this bands,keep It going mate,congratulation for your Channel and greetings from Spain
oh FUCK yeah you included The Chasm and Intestine Baalism.
I'd swap out Incorrigible Bigotry for Demilich's Nespithe but that's just me.
32:00 Dyscarnate is fire
Hi, from Chile. I personally recommend you Morgue 'Eroded Thoughts'. You´re the first on yt that I hear choosing Shub Niggurath The Kinglike Celebration' , one of my favorites (Ready to pick the vinyl whenever it comes out) the other one they have is also top stuff, and have you heard the demo? Horror Creatures? it's sick. If anybody knows bands similar to S.N. please leave it in the comments. 666
R.I.P. Hongo
Top 2 are definitive:
1.) Edge of Sanity - Crimson
2.) Death - Symbolic
•Gorguts - Obscura
•Dragged Into Sunlight - Hatred For Mankind
•Immolation - Close to a World Below
•Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal
•Gorguts - From Wisdom to Hate
•Esoteric - The Maniacal Vale
•Death - Human
•Rippikoulu - Musta Seremonia
•Dusk - …Majestic Thou in Ruin
•Gorguts - The Erosion of Sanity
•Dismember - …Like an Ever-Flowing Stream
•Death - Individual Thought Patterns
•Ahab - Call of the Wretched Sea
Oh shit, I just noticed the Lathe of Heaven vinyl in the back. Nice
Will you do a Top Brutal Death Metal Albums too?
can you describe what a band is like that people without your experience and knowledge know. Please. I love your channel.
Fuck yeah, Blasphemy Made Flesh is awesome
Confessor were tearing it up when Atheist and Cynic were going balls deep. Vox out of this world too.
I would probably also choose these exact Disembowelment and Atheist albums for my top 25. I would definitely include Arghoslent and Autopsy but the different albums. Not the biggest death metal fan, more into BM.
Suffering Hour takes great influence from The Chasm, their first album is 10/10.
Not too many surprises in my list, but let’s face it, many of these albums are considered classics for good reason. In no particular order…
* Entombed - Left Hand Path
* Dismember - Like an Everflowing Stream
* Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
* Gorguts - Obscura
* Demilich - Nespithe
* Immolation - Here in After
* Cryptopsy - None So Vile
* Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos
* Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
* Deicide - Legion
* Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines
* Incantation - Onward Toward Golgotha
* Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
* Vader - Litany
* Death - Human
* Decapitated - Winds of Creation
* Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence
* Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion
* Artificial Brain - Labyrinth Constellation
* Obituary - Cause of Death
* Horrendous - Anareta
* Spectral Voice - Eroded Corridors of Unbeing
* Suffocation - Pierced From Within
* Blood Incantation - Starspawn
* Cynic - Focus
Solid list. I like the SPECTRAL VOICE mention, killer band, tho they are way too « Death/Doom » to fit in a top 25 Death Metal list.
Can you do modern death metal recommendations? , like for the bands from 2010 and onwards?
Intestine Baalism are really cool and flashy but can sound a bit poppy at times, kind of like an angrier grittier version of Children of Boodom. Cool guitars, great production but too happy melody at times
dreams of the carrion kind
Disincarnate
always on the rotation
so many dope albums dropped this year
I feel exhausted after all those brutal albums
Wyatt, what do you think about the Italian death metal band Ad Nauseam?
Do one for your favorite thrash albums! I don’t think you’ve ever done a video for thrash, would be cool to see your picks!
Also, NO DEMILICH? 😡😡😡🐸🐸🐸🐸
I’ll probably do one in the future soon
@@wyattxhim Sick!
Killer list.
Man check out Alien Invasion Defence System.
Like Atheist, Death also incorporated similar elements of jazz on their last three albums, however, it was a lot more subtle in execution. I love Atheist but some times the jazz elements can jump out way too flamboyantly for my liking.
Better do a review of the new Arghoslent or we revolt
Thoughts on Darkness Descends by Dark Angel
What do you think about the real 'Gateway to the Antisphere' (by Sulphur Aeon)?
Don’t know I had the biggest brain fart of my life misnaming The Chasm album.
I own that Sulphur Aeon LP and it’s what I consider their best work.
