Disney's WISH Looks STUNNING - Trailer Breakdown (Return to 2D Animation!)

- I take a look at the first trailer for Disney's next animated feature film, WISH.
"Check out the new trailer, plus a poster and new image for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Wish,” which opens exclusively in theaters on Nov. 22. The trailer introduces 17-year-old Asha, the powerful King Magnifico, Asha’s pet goat Valentino, and Star, a celestial ball of boundless energy that Asha’s wish calls down from the sky. It also features a snippet of the song “This Wish,” performed by Ariana DeBose; it’s one of several new songs written by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice for the film.
The all-new musical-comedy welcomes audiences to Rosas, a fantastical land located off the Iberian Peninsula. “Our heroine, Asha, lives in Rosas, known as the kingdom of wishes,” said director Chris Buck, who helms the film with Fawn Veerasunthorn. “People come from everywhere to give their wishes to a magical king who promises to grant their deepest desires-someday. Only he can decide which wishes will come true and when.”
Added Veerasunthorn, “We have been inspired by so many iconic films over Disney Animation’s 100 years, especially stories where we explore the power of someone with a wish, combined with the conviction to make that wish come true. Being able to honor that legacy with this incredible story and these amazing characters has been a joy for our entire team.”

I don’t care what Twitter says, my anticipation for Wish is extremely high. Also do you noticed that the aspect ratio is very similar to Sleeping Beauty? I kinda love that. I think it would be amazing to watch this on the big screen. I’ll definitely see this at the Cinerama Dome.
The combination of 2D and 3D animation looks awesome, I love that song, and it looks like we're getting an actual villain. I absolutely love this. It truly feels like a celebration of 100 years of Disney.

No, it’s not.
The blend between 2D and 3D animation shows why do i love both formats and how magical they are. 2D is not forgotten and 3D is not overrated. Both are amazing and deserve equal respect ✊
The animation made me think of shows like Elena of Avalor and Sofia The First. It’s like that, but with a little more bedazzle. Since this is focusing on the Star trope that Disney seems to be famous for, I can see why they’d do a mixture of animations combined. I’m actually interested in seeing it! The character, Asha is also pretty!

Considering there’s a Royal Prep spin-off for Sofia apparently coming, I am curious if this film will factor into it somehow down the line.
I've personally grown tired of the usual realistic look of Disney's CGI films, so I'm very glad they're incorporating 2D elements this time around. It just breaths new life into their movies and I seriously hope they'll continue this route going forward. Beyond that, the story sounds really captivating and the star character looks absolutely adorable. I'm keeping all my fingers crossed on this one.

Now that Easter egg in Zootopia is now a painful reminder of what could’ve been.

It looks really great! I’m totally sold on Chris Pine lending his voice to the villain. Looking forward to hearing his sultry voice sing an epic song. From the looks of it he seems to be manipulative and gas lighting the people. Perhaps posing as a light of hope for the people but in reality has his own self centered goals.

@@SuperKiobi13 They *better* because there’s no excuse for them on not marketing the dang movie, if they want to be taken seriously once again then they need to trust their animators *AND* they need to grow with their audience because DreamWorks, Illumination Entertainment and Sony Pictures Animation are willing to do so.
Seeing all of those TikTok memes that are mocking Disney actually hurts to watch.
I don't want this movie to be like "strange world"
Well the trailers make it way more enticing than Strange World, that's for sure. I don't even think Strange World looked that good to the general public.
I bet this will be the case with Elio in March because its looks like an adventure film. New story yes, but audiences have shown time and time again that they don't want these adventure stories. At least when they first come out, some like Atlantis and Treasure Planet have become very beloved years later. The problem is that companies need to see the results right away not years down the line or they'll right it off as something that didn't work and never try it again.

I hate it when those commenters from the teaser trailer are being so mean to this exciting movie that I'm looking forward and they keep ranting about Disney being woke for what they didn't know that Bob Iger is going to end the agenda driven and making Disney entertainment driven again. They need to get a life! Anyway, my ranting aside, I'm looking forward for Wish. I think it's going to be a hit, whether those black pill users like it or not.
So glad that Disney are giving this and Elemental wider theatrical releases after Strange World and Lightyear bombed terribly at the box office.

Wish DEFINITELY looks like the kind of movie that is best experienced on the biggest screen possible, in the theaters and on 4K televisions.
I’d love to see Walt Disney Animation Studios produce their own first-ever stop-motion animated movies as well as their own seasonal movies for different holidays!
That would be cool but don’t they have The Nightmare Before Christmas?

I feel that we haven't even seen the absolute best scenes when it comes to the visual prowess "Wish" is selling. Disney knows how to create bright and colorful set pieces along with vibrant character animation, and their teaser trailers often hide that, just like the first Moana teaser that just focused on Maui and we saw nothing of Moana, and it wasn't till we saw it in the big screen that we were blown away. Same with Frozen; first teaser was just Olaf and Sven in a basic tease, Zootopia had the basic treatment as well, and even Encanto just presented scenes without context. Heck even Strange World, which is the most mid Disney as Disney can get, had some stunning moments of animation. The teaser is full of potential, and also I am stunned that no one has mentioned that the "FROM THE STUDIO THAT BROUGHT YOU" tagline, not only did they mention the modern CG films but they mentioned Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and CINDERELLA, which stuns me because even if we are talking about legacy films "Snow White" was the first Disney Animated Classic, just them saying that the story created these iconic classics in the marketing of a NEW film just felt perfect.
Disney did the same thing for the Little Mermaid 2023, showing the worst looking scenes for its trailers, but heck the CGI was amazing when I saw it on the big screen.

SERIOUSLY, it really feels like everyone in the animation community has completely forgotten about that film doing the whole mixing 2D and 3D animation together before Sony and Dreamworks made it more popular with Spider-Verse and The Bad Guys.
Also, the aspect ratio is a bit wider than the usual 2.40:1.
It’s in the old-school 2.55:1 CinemaScope aspect ratio used in the ‘50s. Disney used this for both Sleeping Beauty and Lady and the Tramp.
This aspect ratio would make a resurgence with the 2016 musical La La Land and the 2019 Chinese mega-blockbuster The Wandering Earth.

It’s true that these sorts of hybrid animated films are best enjoyed in the highest resolution, in Dolby Vision and Atmos. That’s why I got Into the Spider-Verse and Puss in Boots in the UHD format.

Im actually thinking the Disney+ sequel series to The Princess and the Frog from Walt Disney Animation Studios called Tiana will be Disney’s return to hand-drawn animation.
It’s a television series, not a theatrical film. Also, this comes out first.

As much i hate to say it since i lost respect for Disney two years ago and still lower even more. But i hope this movie really becomes successful, just cause i think the magic is returning in this film and also so that Disney return to making hand drawn animated films separately while doing 3d animated films at the same time.
The story looks really compelling. The mix of 2D/3D is on par with the live action/animation movies that Disney used to do. The only thing is Valentino looks a bit crude. I'll be convinced when I see how he looks on the big screen.

This looks promising for the House of Mouse team, but hoping they’ll be making some new movie ideas while using its unique animation than previous CGI animated films.
The talking goat part was weird, though.

This kind of movie is what I’ve been waiting for from Disney. An original idea, that’s not based on anything. And anyone that knows me, knows I miss the 2D animated Disney movies. Here, it’s a hybrid, and it looks great.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this in theaters. I've noticed that in some frames if you zoom in you can actually see the lineart painted over and I think its gonna be more prominent if watched on the big screen.

As an animator it pissed me off that this is marketed as 2d tradicional animation since literally all of it is 3d animation with 2d textures one it, I'm not saying that it looks bad, but there's a meaningful distinction
I wish they would make more 2D movies and sequels...I think they should outsource the animation to the ones who made the night at the museum kahmunrah rises movie..because "walt disney animation studios" isn't a 2D animation studios anymore..its a 3D animation studio....I think disney should reboot disneytoon studios again to make features again...
I know this cannot be the case, because they most likely were developed about the same time and released too soon apart, so I can't rightfully say that Disney learned from Strange World's reception and went back to a classic, fairy tale type story. It's not the case at all, but it sure feels like it. I still haven't seen Strange World, so I still can't comment on if it was hard to market, but this looks like a classic enough Disney romp that it sells itself. Another Disney princess, another wacky, celebrity voice sidekick, a more traditional looking antagonist. Even managing to continue the streak of having Alan Tudyk appear in their films (kind of like what Pixar used to do with John Ratzenberger). The goat kinda reminds me of his version of Clayface. While I personally like when they go off of Princess/fairy story type films, I'm glad they're going back after that last film.
Maybe they were already thinking that people were wanting something more like Wish and less like Strange World so they put out Strange World first since it was already done and just get that out of the way before cleansing our palettes with Wish. That’s just me speculating though.
@@colbystearns5238 While I don't think that's the case, this IS the same company who punished animators by kicking them off a prestige project with something they didn't think would succeed. Of course, in the future we knew the "flop" film would be so successful it spawned 2 DTV sequels, 2 TV shows, a Broadway Musical, and 2 CGI remakes, and the more "respectable" film was a lame, preachy, boring, slog with like one good song.
I may be in minority, but for me the animation in this trailer looked subpar to those of Spider-Man, or Puss in Boots.

It's beautiful and made me think of my own dreams of where I really want to go! And it makes me want to wish that I could go back to Disney world anytime if I could afford it and if the people would not ask for so much money you know what I mean? And just now I am wishing that the people who work in Disney world would redeem themselves from having to get more and more money and just let the people go wherever they want to go just as long as it's not too expensive to spend on going to any Disney theme park or spending the night in the hotel or anything like that at all! To me sometimes money could be mined poisoning full of evil something that would make you power-hungry and I really hate that! So what I am trying to say is money isn't everything green and gold maybe a good combination but I couldn't think of it as money to me it would be more like Irish stuff something Celtic and magical like fairies in nature that kind of thing! But sometimes I wish that I would travel around the world somewhere where I could paint or draw or even imagine that my favorite cartoon characters or with me the whole time! And sometimes I wonder if there could be a moonlit garden with kittens waiting just for me! I am a cat person and sometimes I even love fairies but I wonder if I could name some of my kitten friends after the legendary fairies! Not like the ones from Tinkerbell but real fairies like Queen Mob! But if I could be a fairy I would be a moon fairy and I would perhaps were something indigo or white!?

Hopefully it looks good on the big screen. It looked so poorly rendered on my TV screen that I was distracted to the point of not even focusing on what the plot was. It just looked like a videogame from 2008.

How the fuck could anyone be looking at that trailer and think that what they've just shown us looks in any way like the actual style of 2D animation? Paperman looked more 2D than this and they made that 11 years ago now!

For me anyone who's liked most of what they were putting out for the 2010s has been just as lost on what the studio's animation is supposed to be like as the studio itself has been.

I have gotten to the point where I am sick of the Disney animated movies. It seems to be there is no creativity regarding the look of the animation/characters. They need to change and get new artists!!! In every single movie its the same face with different clothes. Blah Blah boring!!!!
