Bedankt Peter voor het mooie maar triestig verhaal, wat een moeder lijden kan, jullie hebben heel veel geluk gehad in die vreselijke en donkere oorlogsjaren.

THIS was such a remarkable story, it needs to be a book as well as a movie! Thank you for telling us and for helping us in America understand how our language can inform our behavoir and acceptance of things that are so wrong!

Love his story of his mother's bravery and determination, and that of the helpers along the way. His ending statements against using " My country, right or wrong" is powerful!❤

The moral of the story is, if someone saves your life, you do not wait 50 years to reach out, also Claus and Regina should have been recognized as Righteous among the nations

Wow, this testimony is amazing! I have heard thousands of testimonies and his is so interesting, I could listen to him for hours. His English is perfect. So often it’s hard to understand the testimony’s because there English is so broken and hard to understand. I’m always amazed that they have been in this country for decades and still there English is so poor. Great testimony!

One of the most exciting, suspenseful accounts of one’s life I have ever heard. Bravo to you little Peter and your Mom in her Red Cross “uniform”. I will never forget your story. Yes, we must fix it by looking straight at it and not looking the other way. I have heard so many testimonies from Holocaust survivors that I envied their courage and endurance so much so that I wish I were Jewish. I am a Jehovah Witness and we do expect persecution as Jesus said we would but on a grander scale at the start of the Great Tribulation and hope and pray I will have the courage to face and endure what comes.

40 years after the war, I had taught myself German and had started to spend my summers in Germany in a strangely personal quest to understand how this evil had happened and why my uncle had had to die fighting the Nazis in 1944. Answers I couldn't find in the hundreds of books on the subject that I had read. One summer I ended up living with a woman named Hedwig Rieth who was quite famous in the town of Tübingen for her wartime exploits in smuggling Jewish artists into Switzerland and keeping their artwork hidden until the war ended, despite being under surveillance by the Gestapo.
The stories that Hedwig, a very sweet, kind (and obviously very brave) woman, told me were much like these testimonials--personal accounts of the horrors described in all those books I had read. Through these stories, and the many interviews I conducted during those years with other victims of the Nazis, with people who were not Nazis but who went along with it because they were so frightened, and even a handful with unrepentant Nazis who had done terrible things...I finally really began to understand how such evil had entered the world.
Like this man talking about his trauma as a young Jewish boy hiding from the Nazis in the Netherlands, I too have come to the conclusion that we are not immune from the resurgence of that same evil. Consider what has happened in America since 2016. The Republican party has now (2022) embraced Christian/white nationalism, which is Nazism! We are in very grave danger indeed. 40 years ago I was certain that such a thing could never happen. Never in my life have I been so wrong about anything. God help us.

Trumpism is a collection of low IQ grifters. Winners write the script. WW2 winners were more interested in having nothing of WW2 reported.

    • @paulagrant1073

Christian or being white has nothing to do with Nazism, but what you just wrote does. You are spreading hate toward certain people. That is what they did, the Jews or anyone who didn't agree with them was the enemy and must be eliminated. Also the handicap, the old etc. Watch what you say for you are spreading the same kind of propaganda. God help us all to never paint all of certain people with the same brush.

"Being white has nothing to do with Nazism"?! Lady, are you really serious? Do you have any concept of what the "master race" was? I don't think I've ever seen a comment quite as ignorant and insane as this. Ever. In 60-some years.
