Seeing this in the theater on a double bill with Miami Connection was one of the best nights in my life. Just something I wish everyone could experience.
@@12345....... I really hope someone else does that again, since it really is a double feature that I would like more people to do. They fit so well together.
Omg I would’ve killed to see those! There’s just something magical about shared bad/good movie experiences in public, something streaming can’t replicate sadly
I help run a Film Festival in Spain based around trash. We showed Made in China the year after New York Ninja, and the audience was NOT ready. Whilst filming the final fight, John Liu noticed a small aircraft crashing in the background. Of course, his first thought was to run over and film that shiz and incorporate the footage into the film. Cue a scene where we see one guy burnt to a crisp and another trying to crawl away, twitching, and succumbing to his injuries. Then, a narrator makes it clear that this happened for real and pays tribute to the victims. Instead of, you know, Liu trying to help or at least giving them some dignity in their final moments.
The original soundtrack and audio editing in this movie don't get enough credit. They're legit great and feel genuine, era appropriate and made with love & care. The synthwave music is great, and the voice performances are perfect and mixed just right.
As someone who's from NYC, is always interesting to see old movies take place in NYC and see how it used to look and still recognize some of the areas.
Hey, I just want to say that I've been subbed to you now for nearly 10 years. Time has gone by fast. I still love your videos. I'm sad every time I see how low your sub count is.
I still believe the channel is gonna blow up one of these days. The quality just keeps getting better and besides the universe totally owes him a million subscribers--the magic 8-ball promised!
A lot of people talk a lot of 💩 about Pay It Forward but it messed me up when I first watched it. I thought it was just a little sweet movie about a cute kid trying to make a difference. I wasn’t expecting anybody to die. I cried like a little baby at the end. 😭
I love the way you left out the ending spoilers. As many reviews as I have seen for New York Ninja, none of them compelled me to want to watch it. Now I will! Thank you, Mark, as always for the rec ❤
If your channel was just you reposting the video of you being a ninja every week, I would still watch every upload and be just as entertained. For some reason the clip cracks me up.
Actually, i dont mind the tiny miniscule amount of blood taken but the bite itself is irritating and can even wake you up andd may leave a swelling. Couldn't million years of evolution had mosquitoes to develop a more gentle approach, a less painful one? and of course the buzzing
John Liu is clearly a really skilled guy so I find it fascinating that he somehow comes off almost as goofy as a John DeHart or Neil Breen. Like there's a world where he's believable as a badass martial artist that no woman can resist but somehow he missed and didn't quite get there.
I have watched all your reviews multiple times. Often just clicking on the playlist and letting them play. You are so funny and clever! Thank you for all the work you do to make these video reviews of movies I never would have known about otherwise.
Just watched it and loved it. Thanks so much for featuring this one. That was a really fun and mindless way to spend some time. Exactly what I needed this evening. The "drunken sword style" was probably my favorite part of the movie. I killed myself laughing.
Mark needs to make a B-movie where he bumps his head an all his intrusive thoughts we see as sketches win and he becomes that for 48 hours as we watch the effect it has on his life.
I had the “pleasure” of catching this one on TV. The scene where the police just randomly move the trash can with the dead body in it and just walk away is hilarious. I loved this exchange Report 1: Where did he come from? Reporter 2: Where did he go? John Liu: Did I miss anything? Reporters: Yes!
Mark shoulda walked in on the birthday party like "Well, this party is a wrap..." then bursts into song like "Go ninja, go ninja, go, go, go!" as a montage plays of New York Ninja kicking butt.
I have a signed poster from the audio cast because I bought this new from Vinegar Syndrome’s table at a convention and got enough stuff (or talked to the guy enough) to get one. The coolest part to me is that I have Cynthia Rothrock’s autograph now/
Glad I have the Vinegar Syndrome version of this. I totally support them for restoring this film, and many other rare 70's - 80s movies. They are a awesome company.
We have another samurai cop. Plus the legend who put this together needs to make an edit with you in it. Birthday party scene woke up my house 😂 god I need sleep

This needs a crossover with "City Dragon". New York Ninja vs. MC Kung Fu. Then Sho'nuff from "The Last Dragon" shows up and kicks both of their asses...
Bad Movie Bible made me aware of this in a brief segment. I had no idea of the behind the scenes stuff. John Liu appears to still be alive, is he cool with this? Does he even know? I need to see the making of.
From the bonus features on the Blu-ray (at least from what I remember) they did go to John Liu and tried to get him involved, but Liu didn’t want to, probably due to the production issues he had back in ‘84.
@thenightrider2121 the story behind this is 50x more interesting than this movie could ever be. What a daunting task. Even just the cataloging of all the raw footage, not knowing if a full movie was shot.

New York needs the New York ninja more than ever.
I remember Red Letter Media talking about this movie. The movie itself looks bad, but the story about it is absolutely fascinating.
The Bad Movie Bible also covered it in one of his videos. Really worth the watch!
Holy crap, cake and treat bags part got me so good.

A ninja is never more graceful than on rollerskates.
The fact that this film’s life cycle is just shy of my own is pretty crazy.
Would a CIA agent mishandle a firearm to that degree? 10 years ago I would have said, "No way." In 2024, I'm not so sure.
Haha good one.
The best parts of these are when Mark inserts himself into themovie. When I win the lotto, i'm producing his first original movie.
