    Thank you so much from Scotland UK for such an informative video - I have a 4230 here also that one day, if I'm brave enough, will do what you guys did. Keep up the great work.

    Seeing this rebuild may help me like a 4230 again. My cousin had one a long time ago, and I had a love/hate relationship with that tractor. I loved to hate it...lol.

    I started working for a Deere dealer same time 30 series came out. Sound Gard cab was light years ahead of the competition, some never did catch up. The engine were a little weak. The 40 series were a much better all round tractor. Will be nice tractor when you get it all done.

      It would have been very cool to witness the 30 series come onto the market! The first new John Deere Grandpa sold as a Deere dealer was a 4430, and that same tractor is sitting in the shed today 👍

    That turned out awesome!!!! You and your uncle do dam good work!! Great video!! Your grandfather sounds like a awesome guy!! I hope we get to meet him a little more. It’s obvious he’s a hard working on the go kinda fella!! But maybe you could get him to sit down sometime and give a brief history of his farm!! I’ve been thinking about your barn that burnt and how you guys were making out with it. Well take care and as always WORK SAFE 😎🇺🇸🇺🇸 and talk to ya next time bud 🙂

    That's how we finished our rebuilds. Fire it up, make sure fluids stay contained. Straight to the dyno. Absolute minimum idle time. Not looking for a power number at that point. We just wanted full load, full boost for 20 minutes. Idle it down, let it cool off. Next morning head re-torque. Oil & filter change. Sheet metal back on. Then if we were looking for a power number we would make pump adjustments on the dyno again. We found engines we put through that break in process made the same power for more hours with less oil consumption, and less blow by.

    When you fix up these tractors, do you upgrade the batteries to 12 volt parallel or do you leave them 6 volt series?

    • @RennerStockFarms
      @RennerStockFarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they get converted to 12 volt batteries.

    we had a 4230 engine blew and we went to Iowa and got a 4430 motor from a burnt tractor and put in...smooth running lots of power...the engine blew cause we ran alcohol in it..pulling ..broke the crank..didn't know what we were doing

    Extra horsepower in a given size tractor is always ok until you overload the PTO or drivetrain. As a mechanic, I’ve seen the results of 150hp 4020’s and 806’s. Same size tools a gear faster and a little less throttle=fine. Add extra weight, bigger tires and pull bigger equipment=scattered drivetrains. No matter the brand.

  • @MilkMan608
    @MilkMan608 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What "settings" do you change on the dyno for a 4230 vs a 5020?
    We had a 4230 that started popping out of gear going downhill with a load behind.
    Traded up to a 4240 and never looked back!

    Needs more fuel! Turn the pump up some.

    We all know the fuels turned up lol. Otherwise it probably wouldn't do anything other than just idle.

    • @RennerStockFarms

      Not really, at this point the engine isn't even broken in

    • @warrenklingensmith1241

      The piston rings are not seated yet that is causing accessive blow by

  • @mrih1586
    @mrih1586 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In your words the 11000 hour engine turned 115. And the fresh engine with turbo and high compression pistons only turned 125. Any chance the dyno wasn't dailed in right for the first test? I am enjoying your channel. Not trying to stir shit. That first dyno test number just seemed high.

    • @RennerStockFarms
      @RennerStockFarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was set right for the first run, that is for sure. We ended up getting 135 horsepower out of the tractor after all the work on it.

  • @stevewadsworth4004
    @stevewadsworth4004 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    that heater hose isn't going to last long for a turbo oil drain line.

  • @bobkyllo578
    @bobkyllo578 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    135 horse? Really? That seems light seeing as that tractor would have come factory with 120 I believe. But never the less it sounds awesome

      No sir, 4230 was rated at 100 pto horsepower

  • @phreshbait.xtent.9448
    @phreshbait.xtent.9448 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not really. Its goin full power. If you were at full power for that long Im sure youd have some blow by too.

  • @warrenklingensmith1241
    @warrenklingensmith1241 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    To much air and not enough fuel can burn a piston under a hard pull.

  • @04tacomaguy1

    Lol at the fuel turned up comment .. it’s perfectly legal to turn the fuel up on a tractor or diesel truck no one is gonna get you for putting stuff about it on TH-cam

    Put some more fuel to her. My sons 4010 with no turbo has more power than that.
