This is true, Raj Kapoor was my grand father's first cousin and our family hails from Peshawar since many generations. We may not be Pathans, but definitely native Peshawar lineage. There are many Hindus who migrated to India and remaining converted at the time of partition that's why there is no trace of such people in current Peshawar except our abandoned properties, etc.

Raj Kapoor was from khatri community of warriors and traders he was not a pashtun as the video mentions Pakistan was India's integral part since history before division. And the region of Peshawar was home to many communities like Muslim pashtuns, hindu khatris, mohyal brahmins etc. Please get your facts straight

The Kapoor family lived in Peshawar no doubt but do not originate from there. As has been already stated below the family moved from Lyallpur where Prithvi Raj Kaput was born. To be a Pathan one has to belong to a tribe/clan within the Pashtun family tree - shajra nasab - which is indicative of a family's descent. Anyway as city dwellers the Kaput family fits more into the Kharay community than Afghan Padhtuns. They are generally considered Hindkowan.

I could not understand that why People argue without even learning History, Kapoors belong from Khatri clan of Upper Punjab. Other Clans who were Khatris include Janjuas, Kayanis, Rajputs, Awans and Abbasis. Also They are Related to GHAKKARS who were deemed as the fighters for thousands of Years. Kapoors were never Pukhtun. They may have claimed so from Bombay but its factually incorrect. The same is true of SRK. They were hindko speaking residents of Peshawar. Even the relatives of Dilip Kumar still living in Peshawar do not claim to be Pukhtun. Nothing derogatory about that but they are NOT Pukhtun. That's all there is to it.

Pretty misleading. Kapoors are of Punjabi origin. My family also hails from Peshawar. We are living there for centuries. But many of us now migrated to Punjab. We belong from Awan family. Liiving in Peshwar does not make you a Pushtoon. Just like Awans and Malik many other tribes like Kapoors and Sethis used to live there in the past in large numbers. But they are non Pushtoons. Just search Sethi houses of Peshwar. Sethis are Punjabis but they had built the best palaces of this region.

First of all..Raj Kapoor sb was neither Pakhtoon nor hailed from any Urdu/Hindko speaking tribe of Pathans. He was Kapoor, Kapoors are a Punjabi cast. In British era, Peshawar was a part of Punjab and many Sikhs, Kapoors and even the family of Manoj Kumar was settled in NWFP (Now KP). Raj Kapoor's father Prithvi Raj Kapoor hailed from Faisalabad (old Loyalpur).

Roots in Peshawar doesn't make you a Pathan (Pashtun). Many non Pathans also live in Peshawar and are multilingual-they speak Hindi, Urdu and Pashto, and Hindko . When they come out of Peshawar they all call themselves Pathans. Only people who consider their language as Pashto and identify with Pashtun tribes are included within the Pathan race. Pathan is NOT a caste-it's a race. Proper Pathans of Bollywood-Amjad Khan and Kader Khan- possibly Feroz Khan.

The Kapoor family lived in Peshawar no doubt but do not originate from there. As has been already stated below the family moved from Lyallpur where Prithvi Raj Kaput was born. To be a Pathan one has to belong to a tribe/clan within the Pashtun family tree - shajra nasab - which is indicative of a family's descent. Anyway as city dwellers the Kaput family fits more into the Kharay community than Afghan Padhtuns. They are generally considered Hindkowan.

Kapoors were never Pukhtun. They may have claimed so from Bombay but its factually incorrect. The same is true of SRK. They were hindko speaking residents of Peshawar. Even the relatives of Dilip Kumar still living in Peshawar do not claim to be Pukhtun. Nothing derogatory about that but they are NOT Pukhtun. That's all there is to it.

Liiving in Peshwar does not make you a Pushtoon. Just like Awans and Malik many other tribes like Kapoors and Sethis used to live there in the past in large numbers. But they are non Pushtoons. Just search Sethi houses of Peshwar. Sethis are Punjabis but they had built the best palaces of this region.

Roots in Peshawar doesn't make you a Pathan (Pashtun). Many non Pathans also live in Peshawar and are multilingual-they speak Hindi, Urdu and Pashto, and Hindko . When they come out of Peshawar they all call themselves Pathans. Only people who consider their language as Pashto and identify with Pashtun tribes are included within the Pathan race. Pathan is NOT a caste-it's a race. Proper Pathans of Bollywood-Amjad Khan and Kader Khan- possibly Feroz Khan.
