Running Diary 21st June 2024. 3 Month Update on Progress.

  • It's almost exactly 3 months since I came up with the idea of running 50 miles on my 50th Birthday, which is on the 26th of March 2026.
    At the time, I was recovering from an Achilles heel injury and had only been back to running for 10 weeks. In the three months since then, I've been dealing with a sore knee caused by IT Band Syndrome, which has meant an addition of some rehab and strength work.
    In this 3 month update, I wanted to share where my training program currently is and a bit of a look forward to the next three months.
    I think when you exercise in your younger years, you can "just exercise", but as you get older you're forced to think a bit more holistically (which isn't a bad thing). With that in mind, I also wanted to cover some broader areas:
    - Fitness, which I have broken down into
    - Cardiovascular endurance
    - Muscle strength
    - Diet and Nutrition
    - Injuries and Recovery (including sleep)
    - Mental Health
    - Body Composition
    While it's had its challenges, it's been a good three months and good progress has been made. Running success isn't made in a day, but could be set back in a day if I get injured, so I'm wary of not overtraining and not increasing training load too quickly.
