It’s weird cuz back in my day, my peers couldn’t stand her. My friends and brother said she’s stupid as a rocker in Wayne’s world that screamed annoyingly
Her story is really inspirational when you think about it. She was just a regular girl with dreams of being a professional singer, was randomly discovered in a market, got to work on some of the biggest and most popular movies and tv shows of all time, did a few stinkers, became a prolific voice actor, appeared on some more popular shows, does movies when she seems to feel like it, made a couple of albums, went platinum, and ultimately won a Grammy… and all this with little to no controversy at any point👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
As a Canadian who grew up in Toronto, "Relic Hunter" (where most of it was filmed) is something I still watch to this day a few times of year. It's well written, and has a ton of banter... Something I never get tired of. I only wish they did more than 3 seasons!
One thing I can say is that Tia Carrere seems like one of the nicest people in Hollywood. Two years ago out of nowhere I received a video from her. It turned out that she is best friends with my best friend from high schools' girlfriend, well now she is his ex-girlfriend. I hope that made sense. Anyway, it wasn't a quick video just to say hi. The video was almost a minute long were she talks about my son who was 12 at the time and what a great dad she heard I was. It was so nice and at the end of the video she actually said take care and "party on!" I wish I could attach it here because it was so nice of her!
I picked up her first album in a discount bin for $5, and it was not a bad listen. I haven't seen most of the movie and tv projects she's been in the last decade or so, but I am glad to know she is still around. For quite a while, she was definitely one of my favorite actresses.
Amazing actress, great singer, and a timeless beauty. Seeing her in Wayne's World has quite the impression on a 13 year old boy. She was great in True Lies too. She is amazing, I've been in love with this goddess for 30 years... ❤
She's Chinese/Filipino descent and her real name is Althea Rae Duhinio Janairo... not hard to pronounce lol. She is most certainly not Hawaiian ancestry, just born there. :)
Not Hawaiian, just born there? So folks born in the US aren't Americans then, they were just born here? Hmmm so the native Americans Indians are then the only true Americans then?
I thought that the narrator was incredibly disrespectful by not even attempting to pronounce her name and by literally “butchering” the pronunciation of all the Hawaiian words as well. One would think that he might do a little research before attempting this narration.
She was in my favorite 80s/90s show for an episode as well called Tour of Duty as well as a Vietnamese refugee being escorted by the ToD crew. She spoke no English, but she certainly stood out and was important to the episodes plot line.
OMG I was just typing that I saw that episode. It’s a great episode of quantum Leap and she played the Vietnamese girl that was leading them into a trap. Oh my God I love that you know that my TH-cam friend lol.
Hollow Point with her, Thomas Ian Griffith and Donald Sutherland is a movie I watched constantly in the nineties. She matched Griffith's crazy perfectly in that movie. Amazing chemistry between the three main cast members. The plot is not even important because of how great they play off of each other.
In tech. You're probably imagining those are in house produced videos. They are not. Everything is a service these days. She's in the Ninjio videos. Another old known face that regularly appears is the bad guy from Goonies, Robert Davi
Add to that in 2001-2003 she was the Martian Queen in the animated series “Duck Dodgers”. In ‘Talent A Go-go’ she belts out the (imo) most sultry version of “Blues in the Night”!
Say whatever you want about "direct to video" fare, most of her 90s films rocked hard. I love The Immortals, Hollow Point, Top Of The World and Scarred City. Great action flicks on a budget.
The whole "It all began in a supermarket which led to Aloha Summer" narrative never makes any sense, because not only did she begin on TV but she continued to thrive there. In the miniseries Noble House she got to play a character named Venus -- what a fit.
I love high school high, the scene where he puts the thing on his steering wheel and turns around and the car is gone. LOVE IT ! haha. I really liked her in all the movies ive seen her in. Wish she would be involved with more movies now. Seems odd that she fell into the straight to video thang. :-(
This “narrator” really could have dial down his sarcasm and condescension about her during this video not to mention the deliberately, mispronouncing Hawaiian words really does smack as racism
@@omegamac10odd as it sounds, the e on the end is pronounced with an A. I'll have to go back and check out David Letterman and Jay Leno clips but... I'm pretty sure.
You neglected to mention her appearance in the 1987 Canadian film "Zombie Nightmare," which had the distinction of receiving the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment. Original Batman Adam West was also in this film.
Guess you didnt really do a good enough research, Shes FULL Filipino actually (both her parents), thats why she did Easter Sunday with comedian Jokoy as she got to play a character of her ethnicity, she mentioned it in the interviews when the movie came out, Shes also supported Filipino American causes like getting WW2 FilipinoAmerican vets their benefits in the early 2000s as alot of them were passing away.
Tia was an amazing 10 but Hated how Hollywood always portrayed as a token exotic mysterious Asian beauty or casted as a Japanese character (Minako Okeya in Showdown in Little Tokyo ,Jingo Asakuma in rising sun , Kimiko in Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man etc) when she's Filipino and Chinese descent and there was numerous more suitable Japanese descent actress for the role, i guess bigoted cesspit that is 'hollywood' subscribes to the "they all look the same" trope so didn't care?! Also respect to her for not becoming shark jumping stale like Michelle Yeoh accepting every token "strong Asian girl boss'" role being spammed in a million films and crap netflix dramas..
She was probably my first celebrity crush.😍😍😍 At first I thought that she is east asian and some kind of martial artist. I didn’t even knew she was from Hawaii until I googled her biography.😁😁😇😇😇
I expected a complicated name, but her birth name is just "Althea Rae Duhinio Janairo". I'd hate to have such a beautiful name just to meet a stranger who tells you say 'I can't read, I'll just call you... Peter'. And I'd hate for anyone to have to make up a stage name because 'syllables are hard' for some people in one country. Also Relic Hunter was called 'Sydney Fox, the Adventurer' in France. Carrère is a pretty common last name in France, and for the longest time, I stupidly thought she had some relation to the country! Lies!
You forgot to mention her 90's venture into early FMV PC gaming, with The Daedalus Encounter! Also, having watched this and Julia Stiles' video back to back, it's amazing how they kind of look alike, same smile and glinty eyes.
Tia Carrere is one of the most talented, beautiful and sexiest women alive. I liked her in Showdown in Little Toyko. The Wayne's World movies. True Lies. My Teacher's Wife. Kull the Conqueror and Relic Hunter.
She is such a big crush of mine. Her most sultry appearance was Showdown in Little Tokyo. She would have made the best Psylocke character for a 90s version of X-men.
Kull the Conqueror is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Tia is one of the main reasons I like the film though. Relic Hunter is one of my fave TV shows of the era. I've actually been re-watching. She was great in True Lies, which is a great movie in general. I do think the first time I saw her though was Wayne's World, yeah. Definitely one of my celebrity crushes.
Absolutely loved Tia Carrere in Relic Hunter which was a mixture of Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones with some comedic elements thrown in and she was fantastic in the lead role of Sydney Fox. One of the most beautiful ladies in the world who still looks amazing to this day ❤️

I loved Relic Hunter, it was the first time ever that an Asian woman starred in a Television series. Tia brought a lot to that show and was a very positive role model for a lot of women of color.
Tia in True Lies is the absolute peak of how beautiful a woman is capable of being...in my opinion, of course.
Agreed
She killed it.

Agree dream woman

No lie, TC was one of my fave crushes in the late 80s, 90s. 💯🤩😍☺️

That show started coming on H&J in America I stunned upon it and recorded episodes
Netflix should think about rebooting I know there's a tomb raider reebot coming so maybe if it's successful they'll think about relic Hunter maybe
I watched it from Japan. Was shocked when Lindy Booth was replaced
Niles was the only crush i had as a kid (also Tuxedo Mask). 🤣
It was syndicated here in Louisiana by my local station WGNO. This was the heyday of syndicated shows like Xena and Highlander: The Series,
I met tia in 2013 in Australia, she was so down to earth and friendly

I loved her in Relic Hunter. That was female Indiana Jones done well.
Oh my Tia Carrera was my ultimate pin up - absolute gorgeous. I loved the 90s!
Damn, was Relic Hunter only three seasons long, feels like there was so much more.
That's because there were 66 episodes.
She's incredibly attractive. In the early 90's there was no hotter woman on the silver screen.
I remember seeing her for the first time on Married with Children. "The neewww Alantra!"
Yeah, and Kelly smacked her!
Her best film is Showdown in Little Tokyo.
She would’ve been a perfect Psylocke in the 90s.
She also would’ve made a perfect live action Pocahontas back then
If creators of mortal kombat make another film I'd think she'd make an amazing Sindel
