Great use of fishing line Liz🙏🏽
Thanks 👍
Hey Liz! I just spent the last hour chopping up a favorite stretched Echeveria, then found your video. Love it. Very encouraging to see what may come 8 months from now! Also like seeing your little shoulder friend, lol.
Thanks!
Besides your lovely succulents ,i love your jolly personality ms lizk. Brings a lot of good vibes to us viewers. Tnx po
My pleasure 😊
I have more confidence with the head chop now, thank you Liz!
You're so welcome!
I'm watching your videos everyday! I love your succulent collections...
Glad you like them!
I think ur right about ur Miranda. I have 3 and they look identical although a lot of agavoides look alike I think ur right. Romeo is tough huh. Can't wait to see if the Taurus leaves pup.
Thanks for the Miranda confirmation Bobbie. Still have to wait for the flower and if I can get hold of a labelled one, then I can be more assured.
Thanks Liz, your video is so much in details, I can’t wait for my Romeo Rubin a bit bigger to do head chop.
You are so welcome!
hi po maam liz ang gaganda po talaga ng nga Succulent nyo po👍🍀🌱🌵🌴🌿
Salamat po.
Wow I have to go get me a fish line for cutting tightly stack succulents like Romeos, Taurus, Echeverias, etc....
Thank you for showing us how to sweet Liz😊❤️😊. Love you and kisses to Pedro 😘😘😘

🥰🥰🥰🥰 I love to watch ur channel n ur succulent are all so beautiful😍✨❤
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you for showing us how to do this, Liz😍😘
You’re welcome 😊
I really admire your courage doing the "head chop chop" .
It's not as scary as you think. Practice with cheap ones to gain confidence and you'll be chopping all your babies in no time.
I found 2 Romeo leaves at Lowe's and have a baby growing! I'm enjoying watching it grow so very much!
How exciting Alicia. ENJOY...
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK I've been collecting....this is my 2nd winter...killed a lot last year but doing great this year! Thanks so much for being so informative! I absolutely hang on every word you say. Your videos have taught me so much more than any of the other ones! I love your passion for your babies!
Great video! Love this channel. I learned so much from this video! Many thanks. 👏🥰
You are so welcome!
Fan here! Im a beginner in succulents and cactus here in Ontario Canada (very challenging to grow succulents during winter because im in zone 5a, temp can go as low as -25 to -30) I love your romeo so much. You inspire me so much with your videos.😊
Thanks very much for watching R D and good luck!
What an informative and detailed video !!! Love it !!..now i am ready to chop mine🤩🤩..thank u Litzzyyy👍❤
Glad it was helpful!
I don't have any romeo yet, they're still on my list. Among others lol. I love head chopping. I haven't done it a lot but I have had great success already :D
Sounds great!
Amazing! I had no idea about beheading these lovely plants. I am wondering if this would work with aeoniums which have become just stalks. Thank you, really enjoyed this video and looking forward to seeing how Romeo gets on!
Beheading of Aeonium should be done during Autumn or when the temperature is heading towards the cold season. New plants will emerge along the stem of the mother plant.
Oh Liz, I have waited so long for this video and you haven't disappoint. 😃 So good and detail information on how, when to do it.
I have only one romeo, one tarus, one Romeo Rubin. And I'm so afraid to cut but none have given me any babies so I think I should head chop. But now I think I need to wait for them to get a little bigger to give them more chance. I wish you live close by so I can get you to cut them... 😬
Thanks for a great video. Pls don't forget to update on how they doing. 😊🥰😘❤
Sure won't. Stay tune.
Bravo! Liz, you have made me much braver with my succulents, particularly in experimenting and chopping!
Several times I’ve heard you allude to your walkabouts/time away. I’m so curious, if you don’t mind my nosiness.
Your videos are wonderful.
My other passion is prospecting for gold and gemstones. Please check out my other channel "Liz Kreate" to get an idea of what we do.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Hi Liz...you're a woman after my own heart! I too love prospecting for gold and gemstones. I love the healing and spiritual aspect of the gemstones! The same goes for succulents/plants. Being new to succulents I'm learning so much from your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Pedro's a brilliant name
Liz to get this right... If I say behead the succulent at the crown will it root or just remain till it dries out I'm referring to echeverias.
Depends on the Echeveria and how old the plant is. The longer the neck or stem, the more it will have room to grow roots and pups. If cut too close to the top or if the plant is too young, it might not grow roots and will just rot. Young base will also not produce pups. Also best to do beheading when temperature is between 10 to 25°C and provide plenty of light(not direct sun). Good luck!
💎This is precious knowledge Thank you so much Liz. 🙏💐
Love your videos,I see that your pots have rocks on top of the soil what’s the benefit?
It prevents contact with the soil underneath to safeguard the leaves from root rot. It also looks much cleaner and when you water it, stops the soil from coming out on top.
Succulents are very beautiful💞💌 Romeo color is good.💘
Thank you so much 😊
Omg I am learning a lot fr your channel, I’ve been growing succulents for probably 4 yrs and I have know idea that you can do this 🤭
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching.
Have you ever tried root stimulator?
Yes and did not see any difference in growth for me.
Liz, thank you for feeding my new found addiction into succs.
Question - when do you water the base after a head chop? Do you wait until the stem calloused before you water the base?
The base of the pot or the soil I keep moist and water it as if I'm watering an attached plant.
I noticed in this video that when you chopped the head, you leave them on top of the pot until they rooted before you plant them in the soil. It takes twelve days to root. That’s interesting and I’m tempted to do it . Thanks for this video. I love the intense color of Romeo, specially the ones you showed in the other video where Romeo is totally red, how beautiful it is.. Does the Taurus also turn fully red in time, when under the sun continuously? Thanks for the tip in buying because I believe you! It’s the truth!
The season and position dictates the color of both Romeo and Taurus. At times I find that my Taurus is more colorful than the Romeo. I've done a video somewhere of plants(Romeo) in the shade that color better in summer.
Thank you for the information!!!!!
You're welcome Araceli and thank you for watching.
Hi Liz! What kind of thread are you using?
I'm using nylon fishing line. The finer the cleaner the cut.
How do you label them? What are you using to label them?
I've used many labels over the years and the best one I find is old/recycled aluminium venetian blinds and lead pencil.
Hello, my greenhouse lost heat last night ..25 degrees will I lose my aeonium Mardi Gras?? It got hit with frost
Liz said in another video if they freeze, don't touch them, or they will die. I think some can recover.
Leave them where they are and turn the heat back on to mimic natural thawing and warming up. If they area severely frost bitten, they might not survive but you'd have to wait and see. Give them a chance to recover.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Thank you lizk.. one more thing I bought a Romeo from Etsy by the time it got to me it fell apart.. is ording from ebay better?
Curious How long will it take for the roots to grow on the crown and stem? I think the fishing line method is the best 👍.
It depends a lot on the location. The higher the temperature the quicker they'll grow roots. As a comparison based on my Echeveria Blue Bird chopped at the end of Autumn, that took over 4 months to root indoors. It would have taken longer if I'd left it outside during Winter.
The ones chopped at the end of spring only took a couple of months to root indoors and about a month outdoors.
Love the way you say Taurus!!😆Liz can I head chop my Kalanchoe? It is stretching alot, will it help?
Depends what variety and where you are. ATM, my Tomentosa's are just budding up and it's the last month of summer here. Perfect time for taking cuttings of these. The fedtschenkoi and flapjacks are summer dormant and will only wake up when temperature gets cooler.
Thanks Liz, it a marmorata...I'm in the south as well,I'm just so scared ill kill it if I attempt to chop it. I have done leaf propagation successfully on other succulents, but I'm very nervous about this one, but seeing you chop yours has inspired me to try!!love watching you and your beauties!!
@@carlahill2332 Marmorata will grow a few stems. I wouldn't cut mine if I only have one plant/stem.
As much as I love my leaf propagations I have learned it is so much easier doing head chops LOL it's just so much better as far as faster growing and space saving.
I have also noticed that a large percentage of my leaf propagations are growing monstros and just weird. I have a lot of leaf propagations that grow sometimes five and six parts that means I have to wait longer to see where they are separable. Oh and now I'm dealing with this stupid moisture meter damaging Roots when I check with the meter and causing a lot of root rot. I could not figure out why some of my plants were rotting and I finally figured it out that when I check with the moisture meter I must be damaging some roots when I push it into the soil so I've corrected that by checking when I'm unsure and then waiting two or three days afterwards to give them water so if I do damage any roots I give them a little chance to heal. I'm really considering moving to a warmer climatewhere I can stick these plants in the ground and forget about them LOL
(Just got 18 in of snow yesterday) 😩
Hawaii....lol or maybe Australia.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK definitely not Australia you guys have monster bugs over there LOL although I have lived places with tarantulas the size of my hand!!
How can I show my Flapjack mother over shadowing baby. Should I chop the big leaf of mother plant so that baby raises out?
The baby will find it's way out naturally. When it gets big enough, you can remove the baby with a sharp knife cutting from the lowest point of the base.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 🙏👍
Kaya LOVE 💘 KUNG MAGSUCCULENT NAPAPARAMI SILA
Can E Romeo and Ebony also be propagated through leafs?
Yes but it's going to take a long time. It took 9 months before my leaf grown Romeo sprouted.
Hi Liz, thanks for your video! I have a question, what type of rocks did you plant the succulent into? I've been looking for some but I'm unsure which ones are the best.
I use decomposed granite. Can be found i n Garden Landscaping suppliers and online you can also buy Maifan Stone.
I head chopped my lavender pebbles n opalina bc they were getting bumps? & Also the bottom leaves were all squishy & wrinkled no matter how much i water..i hope i did the right thing?
Good luck.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK your goodluck made me more nervous 🤣🤣😢
You got me at Ice cream!
🤗 Thanks for watching.
ROMEO ROMEO...he is VERY VERY handsome❤💕❤💕❤
I am amazed at the endless varieties of SUCCs u HAVE👍👍👍🌺🌺🌺💚💚💚
Head chop for the win!
Hi lizk. Can I headchop any kind of echeverias
Yes you can as long as they're mature enough.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK thanks. I have one that has a leggy stem. Will need to cute it.😉
@@amichele862 The leggy ones are ideal for head chop.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK thanks lizk🙂
Oh NO, poor Romeo (: I am feel pain. I only have one Romeo , I am very scare to hurt him :D.
Is your bird the one who giggles in the background when you say something funny ? Just curious. The laugh sounds human . But I’ve heard birds sound quite human too. Either way , the giggle is cute 🥰
Yes it's Pedro the Budgie. He actually has his own channel where you can see him talk and laugh. He likes to talk and laugh especially when someone is talking. He thinks I'm talking to him.
Are u from Australia
Yes I am.
Ask ko lang bakit ug agavoides ko... soft ang leaves.
Da ba dapat matigas leaves nila?
TIA.
Pag soft and leaves, ibig sabihin po nyan ay sobra na ang dry nila. Kailangan ng water therapy or ibabad sa tubig to plump them up. Pwede rin po babad sa seaweed solution para bumilis ang recovery.
Wow
I'm saving money to buy an Agavoides😁
😲 wow😳
I feel sorry for your poor plants ): They were so pretty. I wait till they have mature babies and repot the babies. And I take the leaves that fall off by themselves and let them take root(: lol
I have a large Oakleak Kalanchoe that you would definitely call leggy but she is in a large pot and actually looks very interesting ,so I’ll leave her alone for now(:
Unfortunately Albert, you'll be waiting forever if you wait for babies on a Romeo. They are one of those plants that are difficult to put out babies. The leaves are also tightly packed and are difficult to remove intact and when you successfully remove the leaves, they can take a long time to grow pups. Success rate is very poor. This is why beheading is the best way to propagate these very expensive plant.
wala po ako romeo yet😥🙏🌱🎋
They are hard to come by. Good luck po and hope you find some.
