Thomas Campion is an underappreciated master of English art song. "Never Weather Beaten Sail" is one of the most beautiful songs in the English language IMO. [Pardon this silly memory, but years ago I remember my lute teacher calling this song "Never Beat a Weathered Snail."]
I recently discovered this song (and this wonderful rendition). I made my choir sing it, and even if we butcher the lyrics as french people, we definitely feel in our souls the beauty of this harmony!
I LOOOOOOOOOOVE this song! Sang all Thomas Campion songs for my recital at Manhattan School of Music. His melodies were so endearing and sweet and lush. This composer made me fall in love with classical music.
Never weather-beaten sail More willing bent to shore Never tired pilgrims limbs Affected slumber more Than my weary sprite now longs To fly out of my troubled breast Oh come quickly Oh come quickly Oh come quickly sweetest Lord And take my soul to rest Oh come quickly Oh come quickly Oh come quickly sweetest Lord And take my soul to rest Ever blooming are the joys Of heav'ns high paradise Old age deafs not there our ears Nor vapour dims our eyes Glory there the sun outshines…

💕 My late Mum taught me this song when I was very young! Lovely singing. 🎶

Reminds of primary school ❤
You must have enjoyed an amazing primary school experience.
Reminds me of my teen age primary school music festival Wester set piece in1983.
Glorious, indeed.

Love ❤️
Never weather-beaten sail
More willing bent to shore
Never tired pilgrims limbs
Affected slumber more
Than my weary sprite now longs
To fly out of my troubled breast
Oh come quickly
Oh come quickly
Oh come quickly sweetest Lord
And take my soul to rest
Oh come quickly
Oh come quickly
Oh come quickly sweetest Lord
And take my soul to rest
Ever blooming are the joys
Of heav'ns high paradise
Old age deafs not there our ears
Nor vapour dims our eyes
Glory there the sun outshines…
Whose beams the blessed only see
Oh come quickly ...
Gently lifts the sprite
where are there recordings of Glenda Simpson Singing Campion?
where can I buy a copy?
I raise my Spite to you, random viewer
Not quite synchronised on the ‘all come quickly’ towards the end but a wonderful rendition nonetheless.
That's just how the part is written, there is no mistake on the vocalists' part
