  • The Cogswell Interchange will soon be starting its transformation into the Cogswell District. The construction of this new neighbourhood will be one of the biggest city-building projects in the history of Halifax but will it create a stronger, more inclusive network of communities or continue to repeat the mistakes of the past?
The Cogswell project has sadly been delayed due to budgeting changes caused by Covid-19. However, this delay creates the opportunity for the municipality to further engage with communities across Halifax to make sure the new Cogswell District is a neighbourhood that all Haligonians can live, work, and play.

The interchange construction was one of the worst decisions made by the city, absolutely ruined that portion of downtown. However, it makes me appreciate how nice the rest of the city is. $65M for redevelopment of it is really a bargain, now that we know what type of development should occur there, can't wait to visit Halifax again when those overpasses are knocked down!

Affordable, high-density-housing is what Halifax needs most, and it is needed throughout the entire built-up-area.

With the ambition of getting to the one million mark it's great to build high density and people first. Halifax looks better & better as a high rise city and still has the advantage of the valley & south shore so close by for a little country air. Halifax has to work on, and get serious about, some sport venues & teams. Big cities have teams and high density populations want to support their sports teams. It's a part of city life and Halifax City Council does not want to spend the necessary money. Small time thinking that does not bode well for the future. The city planners have to get real about what makes a big city. What gives it life and character? I expect that Halifax will be more European in attitude hence Soccer will be big in this city. This part of city life must be much better planned.

I am glad bicycle infrastructure is going to be part of it but don't tell Gloria Mclusky because she doesn't like bicycle culture. Beleive it or not but the bicycle is probably the best way to see the wonderful city of halifax especially in spring, summer and fall . I am over 50 and can bike from Sportsplex to Scotia square in less than 20 minutes and I am overweight and have ashma so if I can do it and enjoy it so can most other people .
