  • Earlier this year volunteers form the WR infrastructure team completed the first part of an ongoing track renewals programme under time pressures at Blind Lane near Ainderby. This was an important milestone for the railway.
Funding for the materials used came from the ongoing WR Coin Challenge and similar work will take place between Leeming Bar and Northallerton. This will eventually allow the use of passenger trains on this section of the railway.
This short HD film details the team involved and how the work progressed.

The permanent way needed attention to improve the ride after WR took over the Redmire branch. A tamping machine made a great improvement.
If there are a lot of problem areas, then I guess you just have to adress them in order of urgency when you have the 'brass'. Concrete sleepers seem like an excellent choice, a long lifespan I expect.
The Leeming Bar - Redmire section had s lot of pw 'slacks', for locomotive hauled traffic.
The last time I was there they had the Class 20 & Mk2 rake out.

Lets move forward to Aysgarth - a target that would also bring a host of tourists onto the line.

Too much standing water on the formation it hasn’t been graded properly, a membrane is required and Even more important the cess and embankment should of had the spoil cleared away properly, there will be wet beds there pretty rapid in the future
