The GDI high pressure pump is a compact high pressure single piston pump. It is
equipped with an internal pressure relief valve to limit the maximum fuel pressure. It also has an integrated demand electronic solenoid control for metering the amount of fuel supplied into the high pressure fuel system. The main advantage of GDI engines is that the fuel is directly injected into the combustion chamber. The GDI high pressure pump is driven by the camshaft itself. It can supply from 40 to 200 bars or 100 to 2900 PSI. The actual output pressure is controlled by the ECM through the internal pressure relief solenoid.
GDI require fuel injection with high pressure, directly in the combustion chambers, in order to improve the process of atomization of fuel and to accelerate the preparation of the mixture.
