This is more to do with economies of scale. Building things initially cost money but as you set up mass production the cost goes down. It requires huge overhead cost in forms of building out the infrastructure and human capital (hiring the right people). You also need the right policies in place along with a driven/quick turn around mentality.

    • @raze9748
      @raze9748 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@mk17173n Well it’s a bit more complicated than that.
If price of A costs “X”
Mass production of it will cost “ X minus something “
What Elon is trying to explain is that “X”needs to be sourced better by each one of us. We assume that X is the correct price for the commodity very often. Without really really doing all the proper research. The cost here will be “Time and Effort” . And these two factors later save you a hell lot.

Learning on your own is the best way to learn. The education system can't really help you there, even if they wanted to, which is probably the reason he's not so much in favor of collecting degrees. I suppose edu can sort of show you ways, you still need to walk them yourself though. And in our day and age, there's the internet and other means to discover paths the classical edu system would show you.

This videos title is misleading. This does not teach you how to learn anything, rather it teaches about how to ask lateral questions about a specific topic, and break down the necessary components of its existence and its function. It then proceeds to gauge your understanding of how something functions at its core versus what you have been told about it.

    • @jamesboulger8705

Solving from first principles is not lateral thinking, it's a reasonably direct and straightforward process, unlike lateral thinking. Original thinking does characterise lateral thinking, and yes Elons first principle approach leads to original outcomes, although it is not lateral. Elon is original because, unlike him, people tend to reason through analogy when it comes to things like battery invention costs, resulting in conservative views, not innovative ones. This is a heuristic way to view the world. Infact, in order to think creatively and out of the box, like with lateral thinking, we often reason through analogy, unlike Elon. This may lead to conservative views when it comes to engineering. I hear it all the time "in the 50s they said fusion was only 20 years away, just like they say it is now" if we reason through first principles we might find it is legitimately only 20 years away, unlike the 50s. If we are not solving a problem through direct sequential deduction, we are applying problems to analogous issues, frameworks or narratives. This is not how Elon operates, and this is not how to solve complex economic and engineering problems. Lateral thinking leads to analogous thinking, but does not allow for first principles thinking which elon advocates for.

Elon Musk hasn’t applied any new way of thinking. All startup companies do this and his companies almost failed without additional funding from investors or the government. The credit he should be given is that he gets rid of bureaucracy and promoted quick turn around using 24 hour shifts. His way of thinking is nothing new and is the hallmark of “disruptive” tech companies.

Humble? He wasn’t humble when the diver in Thailand said that his idea of using a submarine in the very tight, cramped cave where those boys were stranded was a good idea. A person can barely squeeze through those crevices so how could a submarine work? Musk lashed out at him and called him a ‘pedo guy’ even though he is a happily married man. What’s humble about that? He wasn’t humble when he threw a temper tantrum during the worst viral pandemic in over 100 years was ravaging California. He demanded that his car assembly line remain open endangering the lives of his employees.

Musk is the wealthiest man on Earth now and he’s blasting Biden’s build back better plan which helps millions of Americans improve their lives and creates millions of new jobs and which is actually PAID FOR! He says that republicans should just kill the bill. Every time the republicans are in power they ram through multi $Trillion tax cuts for the top 1/0 of 1% richest Americans which is NOT paid for! The republicans keep simply adding it to the debt! Trump promised to ERASE the national debt and he added $8 Trillion to the debt instead! There’s nothing humble about this man. And he doesn’t even understand what he’s up against with colonizing Mars. He says ‘There’s not much radiation.’ And ‘Radiation is no big deal.’ … Of course radiation is a big deal! Everyone on that one way trip to Mars will be sick with radiation poisoning from the long journey before they even get there! All colonists to Mars will be dead within just 2 years from what I’ve read due to radiation poisoning! Scientists say that his fantasy of exploding nuclear warheads at the Martian Poles to release the CO2 trapped beneath the planet’s surface is silly because there simply isn’t enough CO2 trapped beneath the surface to EVER be able to terraform the planet! Any greenhouse gasses we release on Mars will simply seep out into Space! There’s nothing to hold CO2 or Oxygen close to the planet’s surface! He’s spending $Billions on a Boondoggle that he doesn’t even understand! He says he’s not worried about those things. His job is to just create the technology to get people there and the rest will be figured out by others. That is very naive and definitely not humble. He should humble himself and listen and learn from the experts, those scientists who understand this subject. He’s from South Africa. I wish he’d stop commenting on American politics, another topic he doesn’t understand. Read ‘Humans Will Never Colonize Mars’ which appeared in Gizmodo. Google it.

My advice is that If you do your own investing, have you ever thought whether you should turn things over to a financial advisor? If you have significant assets, you have probably felt anxiety when making choices with your money. Perhaps you sensed that you might make better investing decisions if you knew just a little more and could invest without emotion. If this is the case, consulting a financial advisor makes perfect sense.

I might be considered gifted with intelligence but I just think I was gifted with the ability to think this way early so I was able to make it second nature. I think that's because I was mostly left alone in my childhood which forced me to learn and not be taught. Teaching is terrible, learning is good. Or, in 2 of the 3 examples given here, he just did a pretty standard vertical integration examination. He likely isn’t making the batteries more cheaply, he just reduced some overhead and external battery company profits/market premium so cost to him is lower. If he sold his batteries as standalone items to others, he would price them the same as the competition.

Here is a summary of the first principles thinking framework in 10 bullet points:
    1. **Break things down to the fundamental truths.** This means understanding the underlying principles of how something works, rather than simply accepting the status quo.
    2. **Reason up from there.** Once you understand the fundamental truths, you can start to build your own understanding of something from scratch.
    3. **Don't rely on analogy.** Analogy can be useful for learning new things, but it's important to be critical of it. Analogies can be misleading, and they can lead you to miss important differences between two things.
    4. **Think in terms of material constituents.** This means breaking things down into their basic components and understanding how those components interact.
    5. **Understand the spot market value of materials.** This will help you to understand the true cost of things and to identify opportunities for savings.
    6. **Be creative in how you combine materials.** Once you understand the material constituents of something, you can start to think about new and innovative ways to combine them.
    7. **Be skeptical of the status quo.** Don't assume that things have to be the way they are. Always be questioning and looking for ways to improve things.
    8. **Examine your axioms.** Make sure that you're starting with the right assumptions.
    9. **Use logic to connect your ideas.** Make sure that your conclusions are logically supported by your premises.
    10. **Consider the range of probable outcomes.** Things are rarely certain, so it's important to think about the different ways that things could play out.
Elon Musk uses this framework to solve complex problems, such as reducing the cost of batteries and rockets. He believes that it's the best way to come up with truly innovative solutions.

If you study enough phenomena, your brain will establish a map of data points on a graph, mathematically.
After a while you begin to see response curves forming.
After a while after that, you see analogous response curves matching known response curves.
Then you may reasonably extrapolate the position of data points that are yet to come.
Thusly we may deduce probable outcomes.
Underlying all of this is the psychology present of individual participants.
This is more variable than the data points themselves, and thusly more complicated to accurately estimate by at least another order of magnitude.
It helps if you have learned how to gather accurate data without IT based clues, at a distance, without any personal interaction needed to take place in order to gather that data from specific individuals.
Thusly we may learn to navigate certain systems containing people that operate by rules that are known or may be deduced from extensive observation.
This is key to defeating large, organized groups of individuals who are not emotionally invested in your success or well-being.
This is how I am still alive despite the odds not particularly having been in my favor in the eyes of most for over a decade now.

This is kind of like how I wanted to start a hot dog cart business in the hot dog cart cost like $5,000 that I wanted so instead I just built my own basically slapping together a bunch of old pieces of wood so I just bought all the tools which cost a fraction of the price build a hot dog cart that was better for under $200 because I did buy a small trailer to build it on top of. I made the outside look all smooth and pretty and painted it all fancy. then I took it a step further and I even started making my own sausages that were better than the name brand and I could put my own brand name on them. Now I make more money in 1 day on the cart to cover cost of the whole business. People are also fascinated by the side of the cart because it looks so interesting and cool. Next I think I might build a restaurant out of clay from underground hehe. I've already gotten pretty good with making bricks with North Carolina clay. I did the math and I can build the whole restaurant for like $1000. Then plumbing and power will run me like another 1 or 2k. Imma see if I can make it cheaper tho by building it myself.

      What does straight Descartes means?

    • @KidsLearnHTML
      @KidsLearnHTML 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@sandzisonxumalo8685 Here is Rule 4: There is need of a method for finding out the truth.
So blind is the curiosity by which mortals are possessed, that they often conduct their minds along unexplored routes, having no reason to hope for success, but merely being willing to risk the experiment of finding whether the truth they seek lies there. As well might a man burning with no unintelligent desire to find treasure, continuously roam the streets, seeking to find something that a passer by might have chanced to drop. This is the way in which most Chemists, many Geometricians, and Philosophers not a few prosecute their studies. I do not deny that sometimes in these wanderings they are lucky enough to find something true. But I do not allow that this argues greater industry on their part, but only better luck. But however that may be, *it were far better never to think of investigating truth at all, than to do so without a method*. For it is very certain that unregulated inquiries and confused reflections of this kind only confound the natural light and blind our mental powers. Those who so become accustomed to walk in darkness weaken their eye-sight so much that afterwards they cannot bear the light of day. This is confirmed by experience; for how often do we not see that those who have never taken to letters, give a sounder and clearer decision about obvious matters than those who have spent all their time in the schools?
