I found a hatchling box turtles flipped in his water dish completely under water. He was tucked in his shell. I touched his leg, no movement. I started warming him up with a low blow dryer and pressing on his plastron. After about 5 min he started to respond when I touched his leg. He his good now and eating.

My 5 year old hermanns is a BOSS getting off his back, he just needs something to push off.
He LOVES climbing, his favourite hobby it seems is to climb up his 12" log and hurl himself off lemming-style, funny animal 😂
I keep an area clear around the heat lamp so he can't roll under it.
As for the rest of his enclosure rather than make it tip proof, I just have it set up so that when he does flip (which is regularly) he's never more than a few inches away from something to push off.
I'd hate to deprive of him of climbing as he appears to enjoy it so much.

Hey kenan i have a question, so i have a friend that have red footed tortoises. And his daily activity method is kinda odd.
Instead of soaking the tortoises in the water to make it poop and pee, he flipped them over for like 3 minutes, and immediately the tortoises began to poop and pee.
I was fascinated by how fast this method works, but i began to wonder is it okay to do it this way? Parts of me is saying no but some parts of me thought it only getting flipped 3 min a day tho.
What do you think about this kenan?

Hey Kenan, every year when I get the new hatchlings I become very much aware of how easy it is for them to flip over...I’m extremely careful to set up their enclosure in such a way to reduce that risk. I keep checking on them several times during the day and I get nervous about leaving the house for too long...am I stressing unnecessarily?

What would you do if you have a large tortoise flipped but didn't know what direction it flipped? Do you just risk it and toss a coin (so to speak) or do you flip 'em end over end?
Also, the lungs on top is pretty smart, keeps the center of gravity low.
And, the high domed structure puts more strength in the tortoise from being crushed from an vertical force, exactly like an arch. The pointier the arch, the more force goes straight down instead of trying to split apart.

My turtle died last month because of that😫 She was 11 years old and completely healthy... I still get scared every time I go to her enclosure and see she’s not here... She was able to fairly easily flip her self right side up, but for some reason she wasn’t able to do so this time... and for worst, she flipped over in a place with direct sunlight. When I found her my dog went running to her, and my dog has not once showed any interest on the turtles. Her eyes were slightly sunken in and it was clear to see she had been dead for a few hours... she didn’t poop herself or bled from her mouth or nose. I also checked her for injuries, to see if there was a reason she couldn’t flip herself over, and there were no visible injuries. Their enclosure is getting re designed soon, for now I took temporary measurements to make the walls almost imposible for them to stand on two legs(she got flipped over by trying to climb the walls of the enclosure). I’m planning on making the walls kinda like caves, so there’s no way for them to be able to stand on their two hind legs. But maybe I’ll come up with something better😪 I never thought my baby would leave me so soon, she was so happy and healthy too... Or at least I hope she was happy😞 RIP Estela, you will forever be missed.
