- In this episode I review the Sako 90 Peak. This rifle is a absolute beast, while being extremely lightweight yet astoundingly tough! All quality components and world class construction by Sako result in great shooter you can rely on for any hunting situation.

Great film and review, what a lovely rifle and your pride in ownership is evident. Went down the same journey as you a few years ago and invested in a .308 Sako 85 Carbonlight. No issues with extraction/cartridge ejection. Just really enjoy shooting and owning it. Very light, smooth, super accurate and extremely durable. Nice optic and those Spuhr hunting rings are perfect on your rig. You should give a lightweight Spartan bipod and adaptor a run on it, perfect on that rifle.
@@hmfc2005 I’ll check out the Spartan for sure. I’ve been considering something like that so thank you so much for the suggestion!
Sako is my favourite rifles, I’ve had a 75 in 7-08 for years and it’s awesome, the 90 and the S20 are both going to be added to the safe, good vid mate subbed, cheers Yogi ✌️
@@rosalindstewart7013 thanks mate, I want something in 7-08, it’s a badass round
Thank you for the honest review. The Sako Model 90 could well be the finest factory rifle on the market. You gotta pay for quality. With a carbon fiber stock and 20” barrel it looks like a superbly handy bush hunting tool. Thanks again and all the best finding a deer.
@@garyturner8898 thanks mate, appreciate it
I have the same Sako in 30-06. Would replace it in an instant with the same if buying again. Just such a great rifle in all aspects.
@@chrisalers3869 I was very close to going 30-06. Such a killer round.
The Model 85 issue was not an extractor issue it was an issue with the ejector placed at 6 oclock. I had this issue with two Model 85 Finnlights and I sent one back to Sako and they basically told me to go pound sand the rifle was in spec....I think they did address the issue with the new model 90
@@jeffreyhall838 thanks for that clarification mate.
Awesome video mate 👌
Very informative video thank you
Why the 6.5 over the 7RM?
The latter would leave no doubt of you're shooting a big razorback or Sambar.
I would buy one straight away if they put it out in 7PRC. But I dont think Sako are going to do that any time soon.
@@timjude both great rounds, I prefer the less recoil
@@ausguntv yeah understood.
Down the barrel does the twist have 4 or 6 lands/grooves mate?
Lovely rifle btw
In terms of best factory hunting rifles its right up there but i wouldnt say its the best
@@JH-jo9wt 5 lands/grooves. What’s your top spot?
@@ausguntv Ok interesting, seems most guns have 4, Sako's and Tikkas have 5 and Steyr has 6.
Strasser RS14 EVO UNIC 3D Carbon
Blaser R8 Ultimate X
Sauer 505
Im pulling strings here, your gun is the bee's knees.
But for eg Sako uses a foam resin injection method for their carbon stocks whilst Blaser use a much more expensive and time-consuming dry prepreg hand-laid method, much like how you make a F1 chassis or missiles
/watch?v=7SKS4nLwa3Q&t=40s&ab_channel=BlaserRifles
Is it worth another 9-10k over the carbon Sako? nope
My mate in Europe said he is buying 2 new rifles this year
A Dentler DR21 in (30-06 / 6.5 Norma) and a TTS Exceed in 6xc - said they are laserbeams
Im really into multi calibre guns - with whats happened in WA with the 5 gun limit, they may become popular
@@JH-jo9wt after seeing how strong the carbon on this is I agree it wouldn’t be worth so much extra. WA laws are sad state of affairs
@@ausguntv Yeah it isnt worth the extra, hopefully WA laws dont spread to other states
Nothing wrong with 6.5 Creedmoor except it ain't a legal caliber in some states for certain game, I own both 6.5x55SE and 6.5CM kind of the same thing. Sako is a one of the better production rifles, have you tried any other of the higher end European rifles? I got out of American rifles and into a couple of nice walnut stocked Blaser and Mauser rifles and barrels/optics etc. exceptional but a reasonably serious investment which most Aussie hunters would not likely do.
@@JCZ_888 The Sako is the most high end I’ve gone so far. The Blasers are definitely beautiful but if I was going to spend that much I’d probably drop it on a collectable sniper. Shame about the 6.5 not being legal everywhere, it’s a very capable cartridge.
@@ausguntv I had a very nice heavy barrel rifle in 300Winmag with optics etc. sold it when buying into my Blaser rifles, in the end it wasn't getting used.
@@JCZ_888 you happy with the Blaser?
Very nice gun
Its very nice but not worth the price IMO. But everything is overinflated today so one has to factor that in as well.
@@aaronwilcox6417 it is very nice, and you are correct, I wonder how much inflation is playing a role.
@@ausguntv My mate bought an Anshutz 1727 F for $3500 brand new about 9yrs ago.

@@JH-jo9wt that’s insane! Starting to become like the housing market.
Crazy costs. I'm happy enough with the Tikka T3x and Ruger scout for under 1k USD. I think the Sako 90 is more premium but it's not going to make a difference for my uses or life.
@@aaronwilcox6417 Tikka is a great choice. They are 👌
I know the Sakos and Tikkas are very accurate. But, are the Sako barrels slow like Tikkas? Only thing holding me back on a Sako 90 is I can't get the trigger weight down to a pound, maybe 1.5 pounds at most because I shoot left handed. Bix n Andy make a trigger for the Sako 85 though.
@@Accuracy1st not sure what you mean by a slow barrel but mine is in 6.5 creedmoor with 1:8 twist which is considered ideal. The lightest you can set the trigger on the 90 Peak is 1.9 pounds. I believe that’s only because it’s a hunting rifle.
@@ausguntv What I mean by slow barrel is compared to American made barrels, all of my Tikkas (which is a lot) shoot the same ammo on average 200fps slower. I'll give 1 example. I have a 30-06 with a Brux 10 twist barrel that shoots my handloaded 185 Berger VLD bullet over varget at 2650fps. It's slow but accurate. I have stainless and blued Tikka T3x 30-06s and none shoot that same ammo over 2420fps. It's the same story with my 270s, 7RemMags, 300WM, 300WSMs, etc.
@@Accuracy1st that’s very interesting, I would have to say that would come down to the barrel length. If the barrels are shorter that would explain the drop in velocity.
@@ausguntv Barrels are all the same length. That's why I refer to Tikka barrels as slow. In fact, the slower the twist rate, the faster the bullet should travel. The twist on the 308s, 300WSM and 30-06s is 11 on the Tikkas. My custom barrels are 10 twist or 9 twist in 30 cal. Example, My first Tikka was a 308 stainless T3x Lite. The factory ammo in it shot 190 fps slower than it did in my Benchmark barrels that are 2" shorter with 10 twist.
@@Accuracy1st yeh wow that’s really interesting. I can’t think of any other reason other than perhaps the design of the rifling itself must be different.
What scope rings do you use?

My mate has one and it struggles to shoot inch and half groups at 100. It's not the first one i have heard off that doesn't shoot either. Just a joke for such an expensive rifle.
@@serverlan763 I’ll post some accuracy footage.
I got sako they are nice but u can get just as good for less than half that price
@@jameswilson5562 I wouldn’t say just as good but definitely something to get the job done. It’s like a Corolla and 911 are both cars…
No you cant
any examples?
@JH-jo9wt the last ones I had built was on howa and model 700 action one with McMillan stock one with hs precision one with hart diamond fluted barrel one with shilens match grade both with muzzle brake both with timney trigger both action was ceracoated one was 2000 one was 2200 by gunsmith Billy pierce in Utica ms one was a 338 rum the other 300 weatherby and I have 4 more he has done and they all will shoot under half inch
All u gotta do is go to hart or shilens barrels not that expensive same with stock and trigger the price is far away from 3000 $
