I was the first batch of STs way way back in 2009. It was a shit show since it was a new concept and we had to figure out as we went. I was posted to a Navy camp and that was the worst because night duties were insanely busy when there was a sailing in the morning. Can you imagine just two people having to check the entire ship's worth of personnel? We were also short on personnel so it was not uncommon to do 10-12 hours of standing in a day and the times were all staggered. So 2/3rds of my entire two years I never had 7 hours of uninterrupted rest. Worst was my attachment to the Navy, we had our own schedule, meaning in a week we could go home two or three times which was a curse! Imagine having to do night duties then you went home the next day (only 24 hours). So you would waste the one day off to get back your sleep and then book back-in the next day. Not to mention the waste of money to take the MRT so often. I remember towards the end of my NS we had some standby days where we were posted back to Army camps. There was no book-ins or outs at night, my buddies were playing PSPs that was chill. I actually wished I had been placed in a stay in camp unit (even if more xiong) where you get 7 hours of uninterrupted rest most of the time and then had a proper two day book out.
hahaha even the Singapore Police force Gurkha contingent have their own Provost Staff to patrol their camp i see them walking on the exterior of the Mount Vernon camp fence every morning
Guard Duty: Definition: 1. When MPs and STs leave camp after 2/3 days to go home and do don't know what (probably watching porn) Girl: Baby, what vocation are you ah? Boy: I'm security trooper Girl: EEEEEEE, 2 day 2 day out, don't do night duty, you confirm use this time to cheat on me one, I break up with you! Boy: I'm mister lonely... 2. When MPs and STs leave the camp unprotected for a significant amount of time (14 hours of night on weekdays + weekends + public holidays) and makes everyone wonder where's their sense of duty & responsibility. 3. When guardsmen can tahan full day training, guard the camp for 14 hours, continue on another full day training while MPs and STs can barely tahan 10 hours of sitting in the guard room or a shed with a fan. Synonym: 1. YOU HAD ONE JOB!!!!! 2. MY FAMILY TIME NOT IMPORTANT IS IT??!! 3. MPs AND STs NEED SLEEP BUT I DON'T NEED??
Didn't went through driver course. But people said just have to tahan instructor. The tough part is when you posted out, some minor mistakes can land you in DB. All the best bro, try to have fun as much as you can and remember you have a very important role
Ok lah, I'm the type who catch bad ppl during NS. Not fun, either. Low-key PTSD.
