I've used Ouidad for about 25 years. I went natural when it wasn't a thing and Ouidad was the only products around for curls. So the heat and humidity gel has been reformulated since the original. I now use tres fx gel by Ouidad. Its a strong hold and its still the original formula. They used to have a great deep conditioner but discontinued it last year. Thank you for your in depth review. Love you guys!

I’ve never used styling products on my hair, Ever, till joining your channel just 1-1/2 weeks ago. I’m 62, curly hair past shoulder length. The first styling product I recently bought is Ouidad and it changed everything for me 😃🎉 After cleansing and conditioner I use a leave in conditioner and Ouidad mousse, let hair dry half way, then use my defuser. The curls, shine, volume and hold I get is amazing, also Zero frizz. Oh and bc of you, I now keep my filthy hands out of my hair, Huge difference. Girl, Thank you ❤️

Who would have ever ever thought buying brushes and a hair dryer would have given me the best curls ever!! Thank You!! I’ve used quidad for years but found about twist from your channel and been trying it out for a week now. I’m still working on perfecting my methods so the jury is still out between the two but very happy with twist so far. I’m even getting compliments from strangers on my curls. My bad hair days can now be the exception instead of the rule. 😀😀😀
I like the Ouidad climate control defining cream and gel, and I really like my results, but have been wanting to try the Twist line. I’m actually needing some new shampoo for my colored curls. Since you just colored your hair a gorgeous deeper shade, I’m sure both are color safe. Thanks for the review.
That weather up styling lotion is one of my all time fav hair creams! I always prefer lotion consistencies because my fine curls are easily weighed down, & that one does a great job of being moisturizing AND light weight. My hair doesn't dry out as the days go one with that one, whereas stone other lotion style ones will leave my curls dry after a couple of days
Ahhhhhhh so excited for this video , been waiting for it since twist launched . Also loving the new studio, aka Amanda’s house , Is gorgeously decorated
Guuuurl!!! I just washed my own 9 day dirty hair. I used the AG Curl Fresh Definer, and the Dippety-Do Girls With Curls gel, cause we already have the heat and humidity here in the Glorious South too.🙄🙃
I gasped out loud when I saw this because I've been buying A LOT of Twist products lately. I'm obsessed with their oil and their refreshing spray. But I wasn't a fan of either gel.
Yeah, the Ouidad's side is definitely looking better. I've been looking for a replacement for my Ouidad gel for some time now because it's not available in my country ... but I guess I'll have to just stick with it.
My hair maybe sees an hour of sun a WEEK, if that. I work nights so I wake up after the sun goes down and I get off work right after sunrise. Haha, everyone thinks it's weird but I love it. Anyway, I don't have to worry about UV protection much. Super helpful! I've been curious about how the two lines compare. I tried Ouidad YEARS ago and wasn't very impressed.
thank you Mel!!!! I appreciate that you don't jump on the clean train or the curly girl train. you use dimethicone and realize that it's great and should not be demonized

The only product from either line that I've tried was the Twist gel and it wasn't my favorite but I bought the Ouidad gel during the recent Ulta sale so I'll keep my fingers crossed that I'll like it more, like you guys did!
What is your current routine for humidity/summer hair care? All the products you’re (you & Amanda) using like scalp care products, wash day products, UV protection, and stylers? I love seeing what you’re specifically using. Also, I have 2b/3a hair. It’s dry/and I’d say fine. As well as normal/medium porosity. I saw your recommendations video for your subscribers, but I wonder about the ones who don’t like a lot of product in their hair? I really love when my shampoo and conditioner and scrunching technique is enough for me, but I do use a curl cream when I go out. I’m trying to find products that compare to/are better than Oribe’s curl/moisture line (the shampoo, conditioner, and curl cream) but that are much more affordable. So I’ve been watching your videos! I also want my hair to be healthier and to find products that help repair my split ends. My hair hasn’t been colored in a few years now, I keep it natural. But I love my length!
@@tati.nightwing yeah, my hair doesn’t like that gel. I tried it multiple times. It makes my hair flash dry; my hair responds badly to hard amounts of aloe. On a bright note, my hair does well with the new Curlsmith Shine ✨ Strong 💪 Hold gel. It is protein and aloe free. IMO its Curlsmith’s best strong hold gel. I have gotten good results from their Styling Soufflé but it’s hard to use bc it’s so clunky.
I am SO GLAD you finally reviewed Ouidad products!! I've learned of so many great products from you guys but never see Ouidad! (until the Twist line more recently)
Ok so now that I've watched this video at least 10 times 😂 I have a huuuuge HUGE request! Can you please do a summer UV protection video!!! The best summer hats, the best way to wrap hair, the best uv protecting oils/serums/gels the best all over hair and skin protector!!! Please :)
Thank you for reviewing these! Could you give us the temp and humidity while you're testing things? I'm in the southeastern US and humidity and sweat are REAL
I love this comparison. Wondering if, as a hairdresser, you’ve considered testing out a commercial product or tool such as the CreaClip. I know that you already have videos on how do use elastics and sectioning for DIY home haircuts. But there only seems to be one hairdresser reaction video on this product in particular, and they don’t even use the product they just react to a video of somebody else trying the product at home. I think the CreaClip is a good tool for average people to use at home that don’t have actual hairdressing training and was wondering if an actual hairdresser has reviewed it. You've reviewed brushes and other tools for home use before. Just wondering if you would consider something to assist in DIy cuts and trims.
Thanks for this comparison video! I've been using the Featherlight and the hard hold gel and love it but now I want to try the Twist alternatives. Always good to have cheaper dupes. 😆
Happy Texture TuesYAY! This is exactly what I wanted to see Mell!!! I have both Twist and Quidad. I'm a Twist gal bc of you. Thank you for helping my wallet!! Love love LOVIN this battle!!!
Love your hair color, Mell! Looks great! I do also love Twist, specially because it’s not a product that weighs down your hair. You don’t need to worry about using a good amount.
When I was in cosmetolgy school our instructor would tell us nearly everyday...you don't "wash" hair. You "wash" a car. You "shampoo" your hair. And FYI: One of the other things she drilled into us was not use the term "roots". Roots are under that scalp. "New Growth" is the correct term. I'm so tuned into that. I'm surprised when profressional hair stylists use any of those terms. Thank you Ms. Sierra AND LOVE you're videos!!
Great video! I really like that Ouidad gel. For those that don't know, Marshall's sales some Ouidad products. I got a lil bigger size gel than Mel's for only $15 ( if that)...
Can you do a review of scrunch it curls? They have bonnets and brushes as well as hair stylers and cleansers. I would like to see how their brushes compare to the ones you currently recommend
Ouidad is my OG curl product. I always find my way back to Ouidad even if I find others I like. Was so excited when Twist was released. For me FFFAAAILLL. Not sure why but Twist styling products always leaves white flakes in my hair.
I've never had luck with the Ouidad humidity line. Actually nothing has worked on my hair in this hot, humid, swampy climate. Maybe user error. Maybe I'll try their budget line.
Great video! Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Gel has been my hero product for years. I live in Texas and the humidity in my area is bad. The local weather guy has a "Muggy Meter" and the dew point is over 60 like 8 months out of the year. Ouidad Stronger Hold over the CurlSmith Feather-light Protein Cream has been a great combination for me this year. Stronger Hold leaves my hair feeling dryer than the original, so I use the original on my normal days and Stronger when I need to do my job, which is public speaking and training. It's great when I can't afford for my hair to fail me.
Can you do a video with your recommendation for swimmers with hair care? Like what shampoo you think would be the best for us. Ive seen the Paul mitchell shampoo three, but idk if it is really good. As a swimmer you practice 4-6 times a week
I have hard water with chlorine and I use PM shampoo three for chelating. It works well but it is very stripping with a high pH. I don't know if I would want to use it multiple times a week, but if you condition well afterwards and otherwise protect your hair, use oil treatments etc it might be ok.
Mel I have been waiting for forever for you to do a Ouidad comparison. I have used Ouidad ever since the the Devacurl disaster. I have the Ouidad curl shaper line for waves and loose curls. Love this stuff. I also have the blue bottle moisturizing conditioner and leave in conditioner(which smells so good). I use the advanced climate control gel and finish with mongongo oil. I have also bought the black and the white lines from Twist with the red bond strengther. I do like the twist products as well. Price wise, very comparable but I do like the Ouidad more. I will definitely have to try the red gel and the red jar mask. I love the smell of the purple mask😊 I will be buying more products for my collection because of this video. I think I need to build a giant spinning shelf in my bathroom to house all my hair products. 🤣
I’ve actually used the entire black and white lines from Twist and love them and I’ve also used the featherlight cream and anti humidity gel from Ouidad along with their Playcurl shampoo and conditioner (discontinued) and I think that both the Ouidad and the Twist products will always have a place in my cabinet
Hi Mell,I am from India and have been enjoying your videos and learning quite a bit.I have been trying to transition from 21 years of chemical straightenng.only thing is many of the products you recommend are not available here.wondering why you have never reviewed innersense products.
The only Ouidad product I've tried is the Original Heat and Humidity gel. I actually love it and it pairs well with everything ive tried it with. Maybe ill try the stronger hold next, but I have low porosity hair and I although I need good hold I don't always like a freeze hold if that makes sense?
been waiting for this!! also i would love to see you try out more products from the Shea Moisture line! I recently started using their All Day Frizz Control Milky Gel & I'd say its a strong competitor to Ouidad's stronger hold climate control gel! (smells amazing too)
‘Not everybody fits in the bad bitch genre” LOLOL 🤣🤣 Girl, that eyeliner you’re wearing towards the end of your video is :Chefs kiss: What color/brand is it? I’ve been tryin to find a light eyeliner color like that for years! Also, you just kinda pushed me into finally trying Ouidad! I’ve been dragging my feet on those products for too long 😅😂
It’s my freaking eyebrow pencil LOL I was in a pinch/ benefit precisely my brow pencil in shade 3!♥️ the Ouidad are worth the try in my opinion if you know which products to splurge on! I hope this video helped you decide 😘
Hey Mel, I have a hair question. I got my hair lightened today, a no bleach balayage, and i was advised to use purple shampoo for it, and I was my hair once a week, and so I was wondering if this would be okay for my hair, and I was wondering if I could also use a normal shampoo and conditioner? Because I’ve always washed my hair once a week so I’m not sure if I should stick to once with the purple or twice, with normal and purple? Thanks for your help. Love from England ❤️🏴
I live in Louisiana on the Gulf of Mexico - which, for those who don't know, has the highest levels of humidity in the country, tied with Southern Florida - and my hair looks a lot like Mells seester, Amanda. (Please do an updated hair routine and all things Amanda's hair plz 🙏😁) Ouidad is THE ONLY GEL THAT HAS EVER WORKED FOR ME in my home state. Now, when I am traveling or in another state, other brands have worked just fine. But there is a DRASTIC difference when in this kind of humidity. I have gotten to where I will only use Ouidad Advanced Climate Control in the red bottle. I have tried potentially everything on the market, but nothing has compared to the Ouidad. Also - lots of leave in conditioner - like, more than you would think. It has been a learning process.
So I read that since I have soft fine, albeit dense, curls I should use light gels so I don’t weigh them down. But I live in MIAMI! I have 3b/c and I’m not sure.
This is a video Mell has wanted to create since twist hair first launched!! I’m so glad we finally got around to it and we hope u enjoy!!

Thank you! I’ve been sleeping on marshals
Hey Mel, I was curious about this too. Thanks for doing this experiment 🔬 love you guys 😍💯
It's great when I can't afford for my hair to fail me.
i love love your new color! it just looks perfect :)
That shade of red on you looks so good .
Can you do a video with your recommendation for swimmers with hair care? Like what shampoo you think would be the best for us. Ive seen the Paul mitchell shampoo three, but idk if it is really good. As a swimmer you practice 4-6 times a week
Also I can’t get all of the brands like twist bc I don’t live in America, I live in Europe (Germany)
I have hard water with chlorine and I use PM shampoo three for chelating. It works well but it is very stripping with a high pH. I don't know if I would want to use it multiple times a week, but if you condition well afterwards and otherwise protect your hair, use oil treatments etc it might be ok.
@@emilyjensenius4289 ok thank you!!!
Your new hair color is gorgeous. I really like it. 🙂
So wait I want to make sure that I’m understanding this right- Mell is saying you can use a pomade instead of oil right?
Great video! I always learn something new! And your bloopers are the best 🤣🥰
😂 ur face when u talked about the curly girl method 🤣 you never fail to make me laugh.
Very helpful. Thank you Mel. Your videos are entertaining and very informative!,
been waiting for this!! also i would love to see you try out more products from the Shea Moisture line! I recently started using their All Day Frizz Control Milky Gel & I'd say its a strong competitor to Ouidad's stronger hold climate control gel! (smells amazing too)
Thanks so much for this thorough, insightful video! You are so fun to watch!
‘Not everybody fits in the bad bitch genre” LOLOL 🤣🤣
Girl, that eyeliner you’re wearing towards the end of your video is :Chefs kiss:
What color/brand is it? I’ve been tryin to find a light eyeliner color like that for years!
Also, you just kinda pushed me into finally trying Ouidad! I’ve been dragging my feet on those products for too long 😅😂
It’s my freaking eyebrow pencil LOL I was in a pinch/ benefit precisely my brow pencil in shade 3!♥️ the Ouidad are worth the try in my opinion if you know which products to splurge on! I hope this video helped you decide 😘
I bought a twist get because of this video. Worked great for me and my son.
(Please do an updated hair routine and all things Amanda's hair plz 🙏😁)
Ouidad is THE ONLY GEL THAT HAS EVER WORKED FOR ME in my home state.
Loved this! Makes me really want to try the twist products. X
I wish more brands would make curly hair products without glycerin or aloe for us gals that live in extreme dry climates 🥺
11:35….Me yelling “NO! Use the red gel!!” I have fine hair and live in humidity all year long. It is the only gel I will use!!😂
Same 🤣
