There is no shame in just saying you are bisexual, it seems bisexual people are more likely to be accepted than if you say you are straight up gay/lesbian. I would just say I’m bisexual so then everyone will not be surprised if you act one way or another wether it is a boy or girl. There, problem solved. In fact...Bisexuals are often denigrated, a lot of people think it's "just a phase" or a transition to homosexuality (and it's not). That's why, even in the LGBT+ community there is people telling they are not valid, are looking for attention or don't assume themselves. So I understand why he hide himself (if he is truly Bi but I'm Bi myself and my Bi-dar is pretty developed) It can be rougher to come out as Bi than as gay and it is never a detail to come out, what ever is your identity Sorry it was long but I wanted to explain 😊

Also I said what I said bc here in America in my part, when kids were coming out to parents they said I’m bisexual and then said either gay or lesbian or they stayed bisexual. The parents seemed to accept this easier, which then prepared them if the kid then made a choice. I was loosely thinking of that when I made my comment.
