An evening in Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary located in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu . It has been estimated that 43 water birds visit Koontan Pond every year, including the barred duck, needle-tailed duck , flat - headed duck, centu duck , shrike , brick stork, yellow - nosed stork, three types of cranes, spoonbill , which come from Siberia. A maximum of 1 lakh birds have been recorded in a single year. The birds that start coming to Koontan Pond at the end of October return to their home base by April, May. January and February are good months for bird watching. Located 33 km from Tirunelveli, Koonthankulam was declared a sanctuary in 1994 and is well maintained.
