- Brain Tumours can cause epilepsy via a number of means and this video explains some of the factors and mechanisms involved. In general, I enjoy taking questions, but as I hope you'll appreciate after watching, there are so many individual factors that I can't possibly answer personal questions and queries.

I was diagnosed with a brain tumor (benign) causing seizures just yesterday. I had felt something was wrong for over a year. This was a most useful video given these facts.

thank you so much for the very in depth explanation! i’ve had cancer for 4 years (started as a grade three anaplastic astrocytoma, now glioblastoma as of 9 months ago with 3 reoccurrences) and have never really understood everything behind what i’ve been told besides the basic “ah well this is normal” and it’s nice to understand what’s going on with me s little better.
i have two large tumors since my 4th craniotomy i had 3 months ago and have wanted to understand what’s happening to me a little better so i’ll definitely be looking into more of this.
mine started ; years ago on the right parietal lobe and occipital lobe, had spread to my optic nerve and now my temporal lobe as well. i had wondered for months why i had felt so weird. i assumed i was having some kind of horrible panic attack that lead to seizures until my doctor explained different types of seizures to me. i’m not sure if it’s normal to have more when the temporal lobe is affected but ever since mine grew onto it, it’s been way more frequent.
as unpleasant and scary as it is, it’s really fascinating to me to see how the brain reacts to even the slightest changes.

Nine years ago, at aged 52, I unexpectedly har a series of eeizures and was diagnosed with a benign tumour on the left temporal lobe of my brain. I was given anti-epileptic drugs, but they didn’t reduce the frequency of attacks. The knife-wielding surgeon wanted to do surgery, but I did some research on this. It is only successful in 30% of cases, and there is significant risk of brain damage and even death
I choosevoption B. I embarked on a lifestyle to reduce intra-cranial pressure. Cut out all inflammatory foods like sugars from my diet, increased my exercise regime, and take supplements to reduce intra-cranial pressure and inflammation. In short - a Keto diet, Rhodiola Rosea, Magnesium and CBD supplements.
I haven’t taken their prescription meds tor 7 years, haven’t had a seizure, lost 27lbs weight and never had that surgery. 😁😆😁
What a useful video this was for me. I had Auras for 4years before I had a Grand mal seizure in 2005.
I have two brain tumors, have been seizure free for ten years, but it return this year. But now have I have focal seizures I'M on Carbamazepine.
Thank you Simon. Any tips on where I could research if certain brain tumour types are more likely to shrink please? Your wonderful slide on different rates of Epileptogenecity made me realise that adding this factor in may improve the estimation of tumour diagnosis without biopsy (i.e. if tumour has shrunk).
Hi Clarke, you're absolutely right that different tumours have different responses to the various treatments and this will also vary by their 'grade'. Grades are a bit of a construct to help us broadly predict outcomes for groups but can't tell us exactly what will happen for individuals, GBM being a classic example. So it's really challenging to find or construct such a table. Wishing you all the best, Simon

My partner has had Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade IV for roughly 19 months. He was diagnosed at 39 years old. What's peculiar is he had an MRI completed showing no changes or progression on a Wednesday, but 3 days later had a seizure episode. He is scheduled for another MRI; however, I understand tumors can regrow but 3 days after a clean MRI seems unlikely. We shall see.
Hello dear, can you update us on the situation (what was the cause) cz suddenly my mother in law had a random seizure after a clear MRI a week ago.
@@drevol5952 He's doing fairly well. He's had a couple of seizures but the doctor upped his medication. He has his good days and bad days but he's still able to go on bike rides and stuff.
An MRI showing “no change” doesn’t mean you are clear of anything, it simply means the problem is just the same as the last time you had an MRI
I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was 2 years old but I don’t know what kind of Epilepsy I had and I had my Brain Tumor surgically removed when I was 8 years old.
My eyes have always been sensitive to flashing lights so I don’t think my Epilepsy was cured.
I had a seizure last March, and I had an MRI scan. A small lipoma was discovered in my brain. However my neurologist things they are not related. I had an EEG which was indicative of someone with idiopathic generalised epilepsy. I have been on lamictal. I have had 2 further seizures. But they are all provoked with alcohol, taking medications that counteract lamictal.
My neurologist is adamant the lipoma is not the cause, however everything online seems to state otherwise? Do you think I should get another opinion.
2 weeks ago I had my yearly follow up MRI and there has been no change in size. It is 8cm by 6mm in size.
Hi Rachel, that's a very interesting set of questions, but I hope you'll forgive me for saying that I simply can't answer them. You're neurologist will have seen the EEG and will know exactly where the lipoma is and what the brain looks like before coming to their determination. Some epilepsies are simply harder to treat than others and at least you know what the triggers are. Delighted to hear though, that it is a stable finding and not growing or showing swelling. I died 🥀 from my brain tumor surgery 😔 and God 🙏🏿 and my doctor 🏥 brought me back to life 🧬 now my doctor dignose me with epilepsy sezuire and I have grand mal sezuire I had a glioblastoma tumor in my brain 🧠 🤯 I had to learn how to walk and read and I lost my vision 👓 and everything my doctor 👨⚕️ make me get a check ✔️ up with him every month so he watch my brain cause he said the tumor can return back 😔 and I asked were it come from he said bad luck 💯 and I'm only 24 year old
